An Appalachian born storyteller or hillbilly historian you be the judge. If you got some time come on over and sit a spell. I've got plenty of sweet tea.

Wednesdays with momma have become our girls night out. Every Wednesday we go out to eat. No we don’t go to somewhere fancy or get dressed up. It is Senior night at Burger King…yep! That’s our big night out.
We also get the same thing. Senior whopper meal, small fry and small drink. Our whoppers are always Mayo, lettuce and tomato. Mom likes the routine and doesn’t seem to get tired of the same thing every Wednesday. She happily sits down and shares her day over the whopper meal.
I know there will come a time when the girls night out will come to an end. For now it is important that we share our day over that whopper, small fry and small drink. Listening with true interest and intentions. That routine Senior meal has been waited for all day.
Realizing that moment, when your parent has gotten to the elder stage of life can be overwhelming. It can bring sadness if you let it. It can also bring back memories of when you were a kid and you got to go get that happy meal. You looked forward to that all day. Momma does too!
Wednesdays with momma are all the more special because she has Parkinson’s. Finding her words can be challenging but if you make it a game it is not so frustrating.
If I have to eat one more Senior Whopper meal. Well so be it. It’s Wednesday with momma!

Ready To Start Again!
At the risk of sounding like a broken record I am definitely ready to start again. I know that so many folks have been through so much and yet here we are. Things are not back to the so called normal for the large majority of the world. Whoa! Now there is a statement for you....The World! So often when I would think of my own reality it didn’t include the whole dang world. Boy! How things can change in the blink of the eye.
I have not been able to sit with myself and just write my musings down for a long time. My personal journey has been ardous for me. It took some real work from the inside to allow for the free flowing that has begun as just a little trickle.Â
This whole pandemic thing has not helped much either for many of you. The losses that have been suffered on so many levels in some cases can never be recovered. Especially, if it included loved ones. My heart greives for such losses.
Much has changed about the way we see our world and day to day life. For me it has shown me I am stronger than I thought, taking time to slow down and witness lifes simple pleasures is healing and listening with true grateful heart can help heal even the deepest wounds.
When you feel overwhelmed don’t shut down or lash out. Stop, close your eyes, take a breath and regain your composure. True, it may not change your current situation but it may help change how you see things. Not to mention how you may react. We have all witnessed some pretty scary reactions lately. I, for one, have had enough of that to last me the rest of my life.Â
So as I embark on this next phase of life I hope you will join me to see what shennigains I find in the world around me. I am going to go get a glass of sweet tea. Come join me here on the porch and sit a spell.
