I feel like I only ever use tumblr when I’m feeling shitty and want to look at dumb things that make me laugh or when I want to write about updates in my life somewhere, and today is going to be the latter. 

I feel like when I was at my worst mental health wise I found hearing stories about recovery made me much more hopeful about it on better days, like that thing that went around on here of that woman talking about how she’d been in an awful place and now was writing the post as she was listening to her husband read silly stories to her son as she was making dinner or something (I can’t remember the exact post but it was like that). And it was kind of just making me think about where I’m at- I mean five or six years ago, I went through a period of self harming which got to the point of almost every day for about a month or two, I lived on red bull and drank too much to shut my brain up for a little while. I got better, but still had bad times more often than good ones, and even until last year I was still failing uni, hating my situation, feeling shit about myself. Now I’m working in a job which is really challenging but I fucking love it, I’m 10 days away from moving in with my boyfriend who I really feel just great about and I think living with him will just be the best, I’ve got a degree which I might not use much, but hey, I finally finished, and I’m getting involved in some great things like a production of my all time favourite show and stage managing other shows which I love. Things aren’t perfect and there’s things in my life that I definitely need to work on, but I dunno, I’m finally at the stage where I can look back and be really happy about where I am now overall and it’s just nice.

seriously, fuck the false dichotomy between Science and The Arts. as if capital-S Science isn’t an art that requires creativity, perseverance, patience, and skilled observation. as if The Arts don’t require rigor, discipline, practice, and attention to detail. as if both aren’t cultural structures that stand on foundations of sexist, racist, capitalist hierarchy. as if they both can’t be used for purposes of enrichment and revolution. i am so fucking over this idea of presenting science and art as opposites, when they have so much more in common than people think.
