I think it takes him a second to notice

but once it dawns on him he pretty much crumbles

he feels like the worst person to ever exist

the internal hate/degradation monolouge is zooming through his mind at full speed

'you're a monster, you don't deserve them, look what you've done, how could you, how could you do this, what's wrong with you, you villain, you damnable fiend, you utter irredeemable beast'

there's not too many things that will make him tear himself down like this, but actually hurting you is at the top of the list

inching towards you trying nervously to back pedal his way out of this

I think he might even offer you a chance to make it even

he wants you to hit him, or slap him

punish him, relieve some of the guilt with proper retribution

if you forgive him right away, he's so so grateful

if you're still mad at him, he doesn't blame you but he does keep trying to appease and apologize, getting more and more desperate the longer things go on

he's a little like a kicked puppy whose also okay with you kicking him again if it will make it better

if you just storm out, he'll crumple completely

he just ends up on the floor staring at the door you left through, and he kind of just stays there looking and feeling pathetic waiting for you to come back

his brain whirls through a million things ranging all over the place-- from going to find you and apologize again to faking his own death for a few not healthy reasons to actually causing his death for even MORE unhealthy reasons

*valley girl voice* he's sooooo cool and fine and chill and mentally stable

tl;dr-- immediately, genuinely apologetic, with things and him only getting more unhinged and desperate the longer things go on
