I wasted 7 and a half hours on this I have other projects im supposed to be doing im about to crash out-

So, I think we can all agree that Gale would spend most if his time around Tav when they initially return to Waterdeep together. I imagine there really isn’t a situation where they’d be apart, at lest in the first couple of weeks. Tav is reading? He’s sitting right beside them, head resting on their shoulder. Training? He will stay close to them, offering them some magically cooled water. Any task, as mundane as it may be? He will be around, if they’ll have him. At first Tav thinks it’s quite sweet. Of course he wants to be with them, he loves them. They feel the same way after all. It does take a little longer for them to grasp why he does what he does. After all the silence of a year of solitude, being in the exact same place now where he lived through what was likely the lowest point in his life? Making that place a home again and not just a bad memory? The only thing making all the difference is Tav. The only reminder of this being the reality, is Tav.

There are a lot of great “Gale Approves” moments in the game, but I think my favorite might be one of the earliest (or possibly the very first?) one you can get.

It happens right after you ask him about himself and he gives you his “cat, wine, library” dialogue, ending with “didn’t that paint enough of a picture?”

If you press further by trying to peer into his mind via the tadpole and you succeed, you’ll only get a glimpse before he angrily shuts you out, and you’ll earn his disapproval:

He’s pissed, and rightly so.

However! In the next dialogue, if you tell him curiosity made you do it, he not only immediately forgives you, he ALSO gives you approval for it (thereby canceling out his prior disapproval):

I love this interaction for two reasons:

First, because it instantly tells you everything you need to know about Gale—he’s reserved until he gets to know you, he’s curious with a hint of mischief, and he’s very sweet and forgiving.

And second, because the whole interaction can be summed up as:

Gale: How dare you?!

Tav: Sorry, I’m a total nebshit.

Gale: OH! 😃👍 same

THANKS FOR MAKING ME CRYYYYYY

It’s all about Gale and his sacrifice… but what about Tav? After Gale is long gone. They are all alone again and the man they loved - the man they were deadest on spending the rest of their life with – is gone. No way to get him back. I think it trickles in slowly; when they hear Astarion’s unmistakable laughter and they realise they’ll never hear Gales again – that quiet and honest one, reserved only for Tavs ears. They will never forget the first time they heard it, in that bed under the stars, his breath hot against their skin.

When the celebration dies down and they are left with nothing but a letter and false promises. Their companions try their best with comforting words, but each time they speak of how brave he was in the end, they can’t help but know better. Of course he was, but they know him in another way. They know a man who’s terrified at the mere thought of things ending this way, but so damn resigned to his fate until he meets Tav. They do feel a touch of anger mingle with the pain building in their chest. After all, he promised a future where now there is nothing.

I have to wonder if Rolan ever realizes how far he got. How close he was to Moonrise Towers.

Protected by nothing but a torch.

We have Isobel's blessing, a moonlantern/DollyDollyDolly's blessing, and all he has... is a torch. He's within spitting distance of Moonrise, all by himself, surrounded by burning Shadow Ravens and Vestiges, and he's fine. Ruffled, frustrated, and scared, but alive and able to return to the Last Light Inn on his own.

With a torch.

We're not better than him. We're not more powerful than he is. We're just better equipped and travel in a pack.
