Ruby giving Sam her blood had two primary purposes: to make him believe he was powerful and to make him dependent on her. Sam had powers (visions) long before he tasted her blood. his powers only grew stronger cause he believed they were, when in reality, he was just allowing himself to use them. like ava and jake (the other demon blood kids) said, he just had to embrace it. nither of the other kids mentioned drinking blood or were shown to drink blood which i believe would be a pretty important thing to show when displaying their descent. i also think that the second sam was put on that plane, every bit of demon blood was washed out of him. additionally, the trials weren’t ’purifying’ him. i think any human would’ve died doing them and the self sacrifice was the final trial.
