Roy Mustang woke like he usually did on Saturday afternoons; chilly, and a bit hungover.

Today, rain beat over the roof of his apartment. So muted he could hardly hear it. His head pulsed, his stomach churned, ears rang, and he had to work very hard to make his usual morning drink of collard greens and egg whites. The mixture went down in a slimy heap, coating his rough and sore throat. A part of him wondered hard about what he’d done the night before, and who with. But he hadn’t woken up with anyone in his bed so sex was probably - probably - not it.

He decided to think on it, to make toast and bacon as he did. He retrieved two pieces of slightly out-of-date bread and slipped them into the toaster. He took two tin foil wrapped slices of sweet-smelling bacon from the bottom drawer of his fridge - Yikes, what’s that brown stuff stuck to it? I should clean that. - and laid them side-by-side in a pan. He set the flame low and waited, patiently, hand on countertop, for the fat to sizzle away, leaving two shriveled and brown strips in its wake.
