Elliot Page on the Cover of TIME: Fighting for Transgender Equality
Time Magazine has interview Elliot Page on coming out as trans and on the transgender struggle.
On coming out:
“What I was anticipating was a lot of support and love and a massive amount of hatred and transphobia,” says Page. “That’s essentially what happened.”
What he did not anticipate was just how big this story would be. Page’s announcement, which made him one of the most famous out trans people in the world, started trending on Twitter in more than 20 countries. He gained more than 400,000 new followers on Instagram on that day alone.
On the transgender struggle:
“Extremely influential people are spreading these myths and damaging rhetoric—every day you’re seeing our existence debated. Transgender people are so very real.”
“We know who we are…People cling to these firm ideas [about gender] because it makes people feel safe. But if we could just celebrate all the wonderful complexities of people, the world would be such a better place.”
The pandemic gave him room for thought:
In part, it was the isolation forced by the pandemic that brought to a head Page’s wrestling with gender…
“I had a lot of time on my own to really focus on things that I think, in so many ways, unconsciously, I was avoiding,” he says.
He was inspired by trailblazing trans icons like Janet Mock and Laverne Cox, who found success in Hollywood while living authentically.
Trans writers helped him understand his feelings; Page saw himself reflected in P. Carl’s memoir Becoming a Man. Eventually “shame and discomfort” gave way to revelation.
“I was finally able to embrace being transgender,” Page says, “and letting myself fully become who I am.”

What the Frick You Guys, Bisexuals are Not "Less Opressed"
The following were stolen from the video "Monosexuality and Bisexuality" by veriltybitchie. Obviously this is not a complete list of every way in which a gay or bisexual individual can be opressed.
The following one is from 2002, when people were a lot madder about AIDS than now, so things might be different now. It's also a little less obvious than those cute little column charts. This one measures how positive people's opinions were of certain groups are, and the important part is that the average opinion of bi women was 45.8 and of bi men was 43.4, lower than all other groups except IV drug users:

First Same Sex Marriage in Bolivia
First same-sex marriage officially approved in Bolivia For the first time in Bolivian history, a gay marriage was officially recognized.
48-year-old economist David Aruquipa and 46-year-old lawyer Guido Montano came out of the civil registry office, where they had returned empty-handed many times, this time with official marriage certificates.
Aruquipa “Of course we are happy to be the first and to pave the way. But also this brings a lot of responsibility. “What we have achieved is only a first step towards the day when the diversity of Bolivia can fully reveal itself,” he said.
For 3 Years Legal Struggle
The couple, who met in the capital La Paz in 2008 and have lived together since then, first officially applied to get married in 2018. However, the authorities rejected their applications, citing Article 68 of the Constitution, which states that marriage can only be made between heterosexual couples.
However, the couple appealed to the Constitutional Court of Bolivia against this decision. The Constitutional Court reversed the rejection of the couple’s marriage application last week. As a result, the civil registry office officially registered the marriage in compliance with the Constitutional Court’s decision, and thus, for the first time in Bolivia’s history, a same-sex marriage was officially recognized.
The Netherlands became the first country where the marriage of same-sex couples was officially accepted with the enactment of the law that accepted same-sex marriages in the Parliament in 2000, and Amsterdam Mayor Job Cohen had married four same-sex couples on April 1, 2001, when the law came into effect.
