OOC. | HOUSEKEEPING UPDATE ! — HIATUS NOTICE

it really sucks, but I’ve been trying to muster up Trek muse for… any of my three Trek blogs, and I just haven’t been able to??? SO, I hate to do it, but I gotta take a break from Bones, Malcolm, and the boys for a while. Another couple weeks maybe. Hopefully, my Trek muse returns sooner rather than later, because I miss writing with you guys a tonne! I’ll be on my OTHER blog for now, or on discord (  miss__murph#9797 ) if you just wanna chat!

OOC. | SO! I’m coming up to the end of my semester at uni, which meaaaaans… you guessed it, assessements! Ugh. I’m gonna put Bones on hold for two or three weeks – which means I might be here, but noooot really. I’m gonna try and get some replies done and loaded into the queue after class tomorrow.

DJ: FAMILY HEADCANONS: BETH PARKER 01 !

DJ’s mother !

struggled with depression after her husband’s abandonment ( and subsequent death ) and, as a result of this, emotionally distanced herself from her children for much of their youth. she sought help after an explosive argument with DJ, which resulted in his leaving and taking her younger son, caleb, with him. 

while a loving woman at her core, beth can be extremely judgemental of her children’s choices if she feels they’re the wrong choices; she actively discouraged DJ from pursuing a future in writing, while nurturing his passion for engineering and piloting. 

loved her husband very much, but turned to one of her co-workers for comfort after she began to feel neglected by ivan. the affair lasted for a year, and ended when she became pregnant with his child. 

calls DJ as often as she can, as she worries about his work with starfleet VERY MUCH, but is rarely in contact with caleb. this was a mutual decision, as caleb has made it very clear to her that he considers DJ to be more of a parent than she ever was. 

formerly worked as a managing editor for a local newspaper ( which was part of the reason she discouraged DJ’s interest in journalism ) but decided to look for work elsewhere after beginning her recovery. she’s now waiting tables at a local diner and taking night classes in teaching -- work that she reassures her son is perfectly fulfilling.

Her displeasure was palpable. Iris glared up at Deej when he came over to sit with her. They had most of their meals together since their schedules had lined up that way – plus, neither of them was willing to give up the opportunity to SASS one another endlessly. The telepath waited until Deej was sitting down and gave her the cue, and she speared several fries from his tray and crammed them into her mouth. “You’re a little shit,” she mumbled, a hand in front of her mouth so she wasn’t completely disgusting. “How was your shift? Did you sass your fellow helmsmen as much as you sass ME?”

“Ahh, y’know, just the usual amount of sass.” DJ paused to sip noisily at his smoothie ( damn Ravi and his new ‘healthy’ meal plan ) before continuing, flashing Iris one of his signature smirks. “Drove T’Al up the wall. Thought she was gonna tell me to shut the fuck up, break the captain's new ‘no excessive profanity on the bridge’ rule.” Which, he’d be happy to point out, had only been put in place because of the Vulcan in the first place. “She loves me, though. I mean,” he paused again, for dramatic effect this time, “who doesn’t?” God, he was an ass.

El had been in her own world, a space between work and looking after Pearl, where she had time to herself, she’d just been staring at the table and admiring the way her warm cup left circles on the table everytime she lifted it. When Pearl’s teacher had suddenly greeted her she’d started, her cup had been midway between her mouth and the table, she’d ended up spilling a fair amount on her chest, “Hi! Pearl, uh, yeah she’s fine, mainly sleeping and crying. But she should be back by the end of the week. Um, how are you?” She patted the stain, trying to rearrange her shirt so no one could see.

Ravi had noticed the spill and didn’t stop his smile in time---though, maybe he’d been spending too much time with DJ lately, because it looked more like a smirk. “Ahh, it’s good to hear you think she’ll be on the mend soon. Jack got sick like this a couple weeks ago and he was out for aaaages, poor little guy.” He chuckled, a memory coming to him, of little Pearl Morton demanding they make a card for her sick friend. “Y’know, Pearl was the one to uh, suggest the class make a card for him. Maybe we’ll make one for her, too. You think she’d like one?” The kids usually appreciated them, and the parents even moreso, but it never hurt to ask.

Iris had started to lean to the side, body tucked near Ravi as she got lost in the view above them – and when he started to move, Iris had to steady herself in a LESS than graceful fashion. “Oh, right – yeah, that’d be good. I think it’s down that street on the left.” Iris motioned with her free hand, picking up her bag in the other and tossing it over her shoulder with ease. Everything here seemed to fresh and lively – it reminded her of home. “This is kind of like Betazed – there’s so much green. I love it.”

“Y’know, I’ve never been to Betazed. I’ve always wanted to go.” A thought occurred to him, making him grin, then swivel on his heel so he could keep Iris in sight as they walked. The locals moved around him, chattering irritably in a language the UT was struggling with. “Maybe we could go together sometime! If that’d be okay with you...? Wow, that was super rude, I just invited myself to your planet. Sorry.” Ravi spun back around, rubbing at the back of his neck. His words got away from him sometimes, always had. He’d been sure he was getting better with that...

       garak’s voice is warm as he slithers up to ravi (who was probably minding his own business on this bench, and is now doomed to endure conversation with a particularly hungry cardassian the poor guy).

       “you’re from starfleet, aren’t you ?  are you new — or perhaps, stopping through ?  i don’t believe we’ve met ! ”

      “ oh. ” 

       to say ravi had been taken aback by garak’s sudden appearance would have been an understatement. though, to think that he’d been so caught up in his medical journals that the sight of a cardassian, of all people, approaching him had gone unnoticed is slightly... concerning. 

      “ o-oh, yes ! I’m doctor ravi singh, I’ll be working with doctor bashir --- I believe he told me about you ! it’s... mr. garak, isn’t it ? ”

CHILDHOOD HEADCANONS ★ ACCEPTING

I mean, his strong attachment to Ravi and his family aside, DJ wasn’t overly close to anyone outside his immediate family? He had friends at school, but they were just kind of… there. He’s never met either of his mom’s brothers, or his cousins on that side, and his mom’s parents are basically strangers to him as well. He knows practically nothing about his father’s family, but he has received calls from Dmitri’s parents in the past. 

All that said, there was his high school English teacher, Mr. Murphy, who was a huge influence on DJ. He encouraged him to clean up his act, behaviour-wise, and also supported and facilitated DJ’s passion for literature. Deej used to stay behind after class and just… talk with the guy, for ages, about anything and everything. He was devastated when Mr. Murphy moved away before the end of his senior year. 

DJ’s upbringing was very… defined by self-sufficiency. Because of his mom’s mental health struggles, Deej really had to step up and take charge of not only his own care a lot of the time, but that of his brother ( and his mother ) as well. Caleb really came to rely on DJ, more than on their mother, and he took the responsibility completely seriously. He was forced to grow up much more quickly than most kids his age, but he never really minded. It was hard at times, but the family was a ( mostly ) happy one.

What kind of relationship did they have with their parents Does your muse have siblings? What kind of relationship does the muse have with them? - For Ravi!

CHILDHOOD HEADCANONS ★ ACCEPTING

Ravi has really loving, supportive parents, and they get along really, really well. They didn’t always get to spend as much time with him as they would have liked when he was growing up ( because they had FIVE KIDS to balance their time between ), but they were always there when he needed them, his ma especially ( because he’s her baby boy ). They came to every one of his soccer games, every single award ceremony. His baba wasn’t home as often as Ravi wanted, because of his job, but he understood. Ravi modelled a lot of his behaviour on what he learned watching his mother. 

Ravi has two older sisters, an older brother and a younger sister. Amita is the older sister he’s closest to, and she’s ‘the fun sister’. She caused their parents a lot of grief when they were kids, constantly getting into trouble, but ‘Mita always managed to cheer him up when he was blue. Indira’s the more strict of his sisters, but she always gave him the best advice, about school, about life, about everything. Ravi feels like he owes Indi a lot. Divit and Ravi have… a complicated relationship. Of course, they love each other a lot, but they butted heads when they were younger, because Ravi felt like he was always going to come second to his big brother. Most of the tension between them eased when Ravi joined Starfleet. Priya is the light of his life; he’s completely overprotective of the baby of the bunch, and they were the closest of all the siblings during their childhoods. Priya used to follow Ravi everywhere, and it never annoyed him.
