leverage: the long goodbye job
y'all i just finished watching this episode for the first time and let me tell you. i. am. sobbing. it was a roller-coaster of emotions. anyways here are my thoughts:
the "job" being to stop someone from going through the same pain nate went through when is son died had me in shambles from the beginning
parker and nate on the roof. the passing of the torch. the "i trust your judgment" from someone who has spent the whole show planning everything alone. what the fuck.
the fake out. parker and hardison escaping through the elevator shaft. parker dropping hardison because she got shot. "i've got you, i've got you". eliot getting shot. the three of them die HOLDING HANDS. "did eliot make it". "im right here" parker dying last and alone. nate and sophie looking back and seeing that theyre dead before holding hands and driving off the bridge. because if they go out they go out together.
"WHY WOULD I LIE? WHY? I SCREWED UP, I GOT THEM KILLED! I LOST EVERVERYTHING, THE ONLY THING I EVER HAD! WHY! WHY WOULD I LIE?"
the worst possible senario for nate being loosing them. loosing his family. the tears in his eyes. sophie taught him well
enter sterling. he's mad at nate for getting his crew killed. "you would get them killed for that"->i am crying
JUSTICE OR ORDER
nate telling sterling that one day he will have to choose one.
the fake bodies. sterling starting to catch on. nate's gloat.
sophie playing every single part. THE grifter of all time.
nate was the patrol officer all along. eliot rolling his eyes when he gets shot. the recap. the goofy knight costumes so they can blend in on stage.
"justice is always easy". "now we’re even tell sophie to drive carefully". godamnit sterling stop making me like you.
THE PROPOSAL. "you've always stood by me". "you gotta say it"
"TAKE CARE OF THEM" "TILL MY DYING DAY". i am SCREAMING. you cant just say that. what the hell.
season one call back.
WE PROVIDE...LEVERAGE ft. mastermind parker

he's fighting a beautiful buff lady. her shirt gets ripped and she's left in her slutty little tank top. "come on," you think. "why is the woman always wearing sexier things than her male counterparts." but fear not. now HE takes off his shirt and he's left in HIS slutty little tank top. equality. and then they kiss

Leverage 4x7- "The Grave Danger Job"
#prev →#i love how parker is the one freezing#not nate who's thinking in hyperdrive#not Eliot who's thinking realistically#not sophie who's just praying for miracles and thinking of solutions#but unfazeable parker#parker who NEVER freezes even when she jumping to and from moving trains and from highrises#parker who slides out of a fiery burn chamber on her knees#hardison the heart of them all is in danger#real actual tangible danger and she's so rooted in the spot#i love this show

Rewatching Leverage again and I’m just so fascinated by Nathan Ford. This man manages to be a scary criminal mastermind, a Stressed Father, a Sad but Handsome Antihero, a mischiveous little trickster guy, and a fucking loser all in the span of an episode. And somehow he is also truly Just Some Dude
He has “a feral cat sneaked into my house so now I have no other option than to go buy cat food and a litter box” kind of energy. That literally happens in the show except instead of a cat it’s criminals. He slays in a suit but anytime he gets the chance to play a character he chooses to be the most loser of a man he can come up with. What an interesting critter of a guy

the way the leverage team make a mess of nate’s apartment on multiple occasions is so much funnier when you consider that none of them are particularly messy people. in the pilot, hardison has a very nice apartment that he is clearly proud of & has kept very tidy. parker’s warehouse is almost disturbingly neat, her tools and weapons are kept clean & shiny and are laid out in perfect rows, her bed is made, her clothes and rappelling gear is hung up. eliot likes things done properly and certainly at least cares for his car’s cleanliness. idk about sophie, but she would at least know how to act neat for a grift, and she’d be aware of how a guest to supposed to treat their host’s home.
but they all put unwashed dishes in nate’s sink, do spur of the moment renovations, set up new gear in his living room, leave clothes/costumes, plans & random items strewn about the place, and even tear up his stuff without fixing it. i love it. his apartment is their playground. they half live here now. nate just needs to chill out and let them saw into his walls, geez calm downnnn. i know nate’s eye was twitching when he saw that parker’s warehouse was so perfect meanwhile there’s probably 5 bowls of unfinished cereal hidden in his house like a damn look-and-find puzzle

i like how leverage throws in random details that are never elaborated on. hardison gets himself a front row seat at the oscars each year, but we only see that in a single throwaway flashback. parker broke a guy's fingers for touching her and it wasn't even a plot point, it was just one in a series of memories of stabbings and so forth. eliot continually knows extremely specific information which implies some extremely specific scenarios he's been in. the more we find out about sophie's backstory, the more questions it raises about what the hell is wrong with her. and the more we find out about nate's backstory, the more questions it raises about what the hell is wrong with him.

John Rogers, co-creator + executive producer: "Look, if we told you Eliot's entire timeline or Nate's entire timeline, you wouldn’t be able to have then have enough flexibility to fold that timeline in with Supernatural in your fanfics because they'd be no space for that. The space we leave is the space for you to write your slash! That's super important for us to do! We do that for you, people! The fans appreciate the empty space we leave so you can write your Buffy, Supernatural, NCIS, Criminal Minds, Leverage crossovers."
Geoffrey Thorne, co-producer + writer of this episode: "But don't do any Doctor Who ones because…"
John: "You're writing those."
Geoffrey: "Just don't do it."
Chris Downey, co-creator + executive producer: "You've staked those out?"
John: "He's staked those out."
