wild-untamed-heart:
He was different from her. Kajika had always known that, right from that first meeting when she had dragged him out into the pouring rain to dance with her. She was verbose, excitable, loud, vibrant and tended to act on her emotions whereas Shu had always been thoughtful, apathetic, quiet, lazy and reserved. It was the little things she had learned to watch for, things most people would overlook, in order to understand that sometimes he meant one thing when he outwardly portrayed something else entirely. He might not have said anything besides call out her name, might not have instantly reacted but the slightest touch of his hand on hers was more than enough and the slightly clammy feel to them spoke volumes. So absorbed was she in the moment that she didn’t really pay much attention to the student who came to notify them of the lecturer’s absence, other than to note that she would now have more time to spend with Shu and get the answers she wanted. The convenience of the situation aside, it was probably for the best that the lecture had been cancelled as she didn’t think she would have been able to pay much attention during the class anyway. Not while knowing that Shu was in the same room as her. Their brief moment of intimacy came to an end when the blond male extricated himself from her grasp and stood to lean against the desk, the words he spoke shortly thereafter causing a russet eyebrow to lift in question. Was that really all he was going to say to her after all this time? Then again, this was Shu she was dealing with. It appeared that she would have to be the one to approach him, but wasn’t that the way it had always been? The sense of familiarity washed over her and caused her lips to twitch into a fond smile. He was still her same old Shu, despite everything.
“Oh Shu…” Regarding him silently for a moment longer, her silver orbs softened and she proceeded to shorten the distance between them. Reaching out a hand, she promptly gave him a flick in the forehead before she lowered it to grasp the closest one of his and gave it a squeeze. A silent statement that she wasn’t planning on letting him go anytime soon and that he didn’t have much say in the matter. “As happy as I am to see you, you’re not completely off the hook, you know that right?”
It took everything in Shu not to flinch or draw back and shrink into himself when his fiancee stepped forward. She was being entirely too nice to him- it didn't feel right. What he deserved was to be punished, to be ignored or to be met with cutting words. Not this. Not her silver eyes softening, not her hand holding his, and certainly not the curving of her lips into a smile that can only be described as tender.
The flicking on his forehead- well, he definitely had that coming.
Upon hearing her words, a smile of his own threatened to break out and he closed his eyes. He deserves none of this but selfishly he still finds himself wanting to bask in her presence. On any other day he would have called her a stupid woman, would have dismissed all of this as unnecessary and go back to sleeping wherever he found himself but he finds himself wide awake now.
"Troublesome woman," he sighs, before the slightest of smiles graces his lips and he gathers the heiress up in his arms and lacing his fingers with hers. His fingers lightly caress hers and again another selfish thought crosses his mind. Her ring finger needed something to adorn it. He leaves that thought for now, for he is selfish but not that foolish. To bring that up now wouldn't be the smartest thing to do. "Do whatever you want," he tells her, tone soft and hand squeezing hers back, conveying more of what he meant in that small gesture.
I mean it. You make me feel like I'm ten again.
And it is exactly that, and her warmth and solid presence in his arms, that gives him the courage to say what he’s been holding back on saying all this time. “Kajika...the reason I left is...” He falters for a moment, but steels himself. He owes her the truth. “I’ve lost people who were important to me. When I was ten, I wasn’t allowed to go out and play. I had to stay in all day and study. But then I met Edgar, a boy from a nearby village.”
“He showed me how to have fun and for the first time, I had a friend. Someone who looked at me as more than an heir. He taught me everything, made me live for the first time, and I loved him for that. That was my first mistake. I made it a habit to run off and play with him when I could’ve been studying. It was only a matter of time. I might not have been the one to start it, but in a way, the fire that took his village, and him, was my fault.”
It’s inexplicably hard putting all of it into words as if doing so was to make it all the more real. “If I don’t get close to anyone, I wouldn’t have to feel anything when I lose them, right? That’s what I’ve been telling myself all these years. If I didn’t get close to you, then nothing bad would happen. And if something did, then I wouldn’t feel a thing.”

wild-untamed-heart:
Kajika knew that there were many students who found attending lectures tedious and while it was true that she experienced days like that on occasion, for the most part she enjoyed being able to learn knew things. This particular day was no different and she eagerly set off to class with the anticipation that she would glean new knowledge that she didn’t have before.
Being the early riser that she was, the young heiress was often one of the few students who tended to arrive early on those days when they had a lecture first thing in the morning. Upon arriving at the lecture venue, one of the first things she noticed was the standard early trio who were already huddled in a corner giggling and chattering away. Kajika smiled and nodded her head in greeting to the one girl who shifted her gaze to acknowledge her appearance and had every intention of joining the small group until her silver orbs spotted another figure seated in the room.
Isn’t that…
Her eyes slowly widened in shock as recognition dawned, for she would know that lone figure anywhere even if it had been ever so long since she had last seen him. The young heiress felt her heart constrict and her eyes start to sting as she silently stared at him as if he were some apparition that was bound to disappear the instant she blinked. No matter how much she stared, the figure neither dimmed nor faded away, a sure indication that what she was seeing was really there and not just a figment of her imagination.
“S-Shu…”
The name was a stuttered whisper on her lips but the rest of her remained frozen in shock, her entire being uncertain of how to react to this unexpected encounter. She had often dreamed of this moment, what she would do if he ever appeared before her once more, and yet that multitude of plots was lost to her now. There were so many conflicting feelings crowding her mind that the russet haired female just didn’t know which to act upon first.
Kajika wanted to ignore him, to give him the cold shoulder and pretend that it didn’t matter that he had finally come back after being gone for so long without saying a word… She wanted to yell at him and vent her anger and frustration at his actions of just leaving her and causing her to worry… She wanted to act nonchalant, as if his disappearance and reappearance made little difference in the grand scheme of things…
Yet she did none of these things as with a jolt she dashed to where he was seated near the wall and flung her arms around him. It wasn’t perhaps the best angle for an embrace, what with him being seated and her draped over his shoulders from where she stood, but embrace she did nonetheless. She was still mad and she was still frustrated but there was time enough to yell at him later. For the moment, she was just relieved to see him again, here worries finally set at ease…
“You idiot!”
Shu barely has any time to register the familiar presence looming over him before the object of his thoughts launches herself at the blond student. Immediately it feels like the butterflies in his stomach have merged together into a frantic bird trying beating its wings on a bid to break out, even if outwardly he doesn't react straight away out of shock, just widens his eyes.
"Kajika...!"
‘Idiot’ was an understatement, he knows that. And at first, he remains stock-still. Of course she would react like this. She really is too good for him.
He doesn't care that there are other people in the room. All he cares about is that she is here with him again, as much as he didn't deserve an iota of her attention. He overcomes his self-loathing long enough to touch her hands, his own feeling clammy in comparison to her warm and soft ones. Very few words could describe how relieved and how thankful he is to be able to feel her again. She is wonderfully solid and present.
It’s all almost a touch too overwhelming, especially for someone as placid as himself. He knows he has a lot to make up for- no, “a lot” is an understatement- but right now he’s just content with the knowledge that she is back, that somehow she doesn’t entirely hate his guts.
“The prof won’t be coming today...” one of the girls at the back squeaks up, obviously feeling awkward about intruding in. “Got a...text. I’ll let everyone else know.” And with that, the group packs up and leaves, eagerly murmuring amongst themselves. No doubt this is going to make it into the rumor mill, but Shu could care less about that. They can talk all they want.
Taking a deep breath, the blond heir wraps his fingers around his fiancee’s. Even as every atom screams at him to squeeze her fingers, a small gesture to assure her that he isn’t going anywhere and that he missed her so much it was painful, he unwraps her arms from around him and stands.
Leaning back against the desk, his brain scrambles for a single apology out of the hundreds he’d conjured up during the moments that led to this meeting. He comes up empty-handed. His blue eyes wander back to her and he takes her in. It’s been too long. His gaze is cast to the side again. “You...you look good.”
Smart.

@wild-untamed-heart
He looked away from his schedule as he neared the door to the lecture hall. Two birds with one stone, the Sakamaki patriarch had said. You get your units and a chance to...spend time with miss Burnsworth. Don’t mess this up. He still didn't know what he could possibly say to her, how to explain why he'd just up and started isolating himself completely without telling her anything, why he'd traded in their precious meetings for the familiar safety, the isolation his bedroom offered. None of the apologies he’d composed in his head seemed enough.
It was hard to put into words, but he knew why he suddenly went into hiding, deep down: she'd started dismantling the apathy he'd built around himself like a cocoon. And while he knew she had a modicum of affection for him, if her actions were anything to go by, a part of him painfully suspected it wasn't particularly exclusive- she loved everything life had to offer, it seemed like. He was just lucky enough to stumble into her cross-hairs. They were friends, at the very least. Or they used to be. He didn’t know what she felt about his disappearing act, after all. He didn’t know how she’d take things. Would she be nonchalant about it?
There was no burrowing back into his bed now. The music that trilled out of his earphones felt like a tether to safety, but as he opened the door and thought of her and her warm russet hair, guilt crept back in, heating up his ears and cooling his gut uncomfortably, stirring the butterflies in his stomach to life. He didn’t even know he was capable of that.
Save for three girls huddled together in the corner, talking in low voices, the room was unoccupied. Slowly he trudged over to a table near the wall and sat down. His fingers, calloused from years of violin playing, toyed with a frayed thread that poked out of his sleeve before he realized what he was doing and stopped. As much as his head screamed at him to sleep things off, he found couldn’t do it. He’d wait for her.

◆ —— LILO & STITCH QUOTES STARTER PROMPTS.
’ Why are you all wet? ‘
’ Aloha! ’
’ You’re vile. You’re foul. You’re flawed. ‘
’ Ohana means family. Family means no one gets left behind or forgotten. ’
’ If you want to leave, you can. I’ll remember you, though. ’
’ I remember everyone that leaves. ’
’ You! You’re the cause of all this. ’
’ This is my family. I found it all on my own. Is little, and broken, but still good. Ya. Still good. ’
’ Oh, good! My dog found the chainsaw. ’
’ No more caffeine for you. ’
’ Did you lose your job because of me? ‘
’ The managers a vampire. He wanted me to join his legion of the undead. ’
’ Trust me, this isn’t gonna end well. ’
’ I’m sorry I bit you. And pulled your hair. And punched you in the face. ’
’ GIve us a sign you understand any of this. ’
’ Show us that there is something inside you that is good. ’
’ I didn’t teach him that. ’
’ Come on, what’s the big deal? ’
’ Leave my mother out of this. ’
’ You are such a pain. ’
’ Then why don’t you sell me and buy me a rabbit instead? ’
’ I hate it when you use Ohana against me. ’
’ I’m lost. ’
’ Don’t interact with her. ’
’ Oh, we can’t do that. Uh-uh. That would be a misuse of resources. ’
’ Why do you act so weird? ’
’ You look familiar. ’
’ We’re a broken family, aren’t we? ’
’ I shouldn’t have yelled at you. ’
’ You are built to destroy. You can never belong. ’
’ We need something that can defend itself. Something that won’t die. ’
’ I hear you cry at night. ’
’ Do you dream about them? ’
’ You came back. ’
’ Nobody gets left behind. ’
’ I need someone to be my friend. Someone who won’t run away. '
’ His destructive programming is taking effect. ’
’ Did you ever kill anyone? ’
’ Are you.. happy? ’
’ I am the one they call when things go wrong and things have, indeed, gone wrong. ’
’ Our family’s little now, and we don’t have many toys. ’
‘ If you want, you could be a part of our family. ’
’ We’d raise you to be good. ’
’ She likes your butt and fancy hair. ’
’ I read her diary. ’
’ Not guilty! My experiments are only theoretical, and completely within legal boundaries. ’
’ He was designed to be a monster, but now he has nothing to destroy. ’
’ I never gave him a greater purpose. ’
’ What must it be like to have nothing, not even memories to look back on in the middle of the night? ’
’ If you promise not to fight anymore, I promise not to yell at you, except on special occasions. ’
’ Stupid head. ’
’ Did you catch fire again? ’
’ This is your badness level. It’s unusually high for someone your size. We have to fix that. ’
’ Don’t leave me, okay? ’
’ Do you want to be taken away? ’
’ You’re just jealous 'cause I’m pretty! ’
’ My friends need to be punished. ’
’ Heard you lost your job. ’
’ Thus far you have been adrift in the sheltered harbor of my patience. '
‘ After all you’ve put me through, you expect me to help you just like that? ’
’ He’s very persuasive. '
’ I know you had something to do with this. ’
’ Oh, good! I was hoping to add theft, endangerment and insanity to my list of things I did today. ’
’ I prefer to be called evil genius. ’
’ You smell like a lawn mower. ’
’ I have just determined the situation to be far too hazardous! ’
’ Don’t worry. I won’t hit her. ’
’ This is low even for you! ’
’ You are all mine. ’
’ You know I have no choice. ’
‘ Please don’t do this. ’
’ You’re making this harder than it needs to be. ’
’ She needs me. ’
’ Leave me alone to die. ’
’ What is that monstrosity? ’
’ Does this look infected to you? ’
’ You’d better not have rabies. ’
’ Hiding behind your little friend won’t work anymore. ’
’ Didn’t I tell you? We got fired this morning. ’
’ That is the ugliest thing I have ever saw! ’
’ It has no place among us. ’

catching the light | kajika & shu
As Shu wakes up to silence, it occurs to him that something is wrong. Already he can tell it is shaping up to be one of those nights- he is sure he's spent hours upon hours of taking advantage of the free week to sleep himself into a coma but every time he wakes up, he never feels rested. It's clockwork, at this point. Exhausting clockwork.
Over the free week, Kajika had been away on a trip, and with the last person to drag him into things gone for the last couple of days, he resorted to going back to doing what he was good at- except he isn’t as good in doing it as he used to be. That in itself was alarming; sleeping was his thing. Except these days every time he wakes up, he feels an urgency to retreat back to slumber, like what he's had isn't nearly enough and he needs more but more is never enough. The act of falling asleep and the feeling of being rested are two completely different animals, he has come to learn.
Tonight it happens the same as always- he emerges from his rest, bleary-eyed and foggy-minded, to a different place each time. This time, it’s his room. It fills him with a sense of dread when he can't recognize the musical piece greeting him from his earphones. It sounds like Stravinsky, but he isn't entirely sure. He should be sure. He's become entrenched in the familiar habits he’d spun around him like a cocoon after Edgar’s passing, and when something- anything is out of place, it is jarring. Like taking a blinding turn into a sun-drenched street.
His phone buzzes. He stretches over to wrap a clammy hand around the sleek device sitting on his bedside table before flicking it open, the other hand reaching up to rub at an eye. So tired.
The message is from Kajika and even despite the exhaustion and grogginess clouding his mind, all attention is on the few excited lines of text. Kajika cast a wide net with her adventures, and every once in a while, he got caught in them. Mostly against his will. Her next message is a reminder about their barbecue and how she'd drag his ass (she'd used the word "butt" because of course Kajika is not as vulgar as Shu) out the manor herself if he wasn't there in fifteen minutes. It is the promise of meeting her again that spurs him out of his mechanical reverie.
But...a barbecue. He'd been adamant on not going, but she had her heart set on it as a "coming-home gift" of sorts, and who would he be to deny her of that? It is one of the many little things he does in place of telling her the truth. Deciding that he'd rather have a barbecue with his fiancee over slugging through another Sakamaki dinner, Shu gets up from his bed. He has the decency to pick up a cardigan from the floor before he goes out to meet her.

That feminine voice on the verge of being perpetually melodic and sing-songy could only belong to one person. Shu turned his head and looked down at the buxom idol and her happy little smile. A hum slipped past his lips as he regarded the scarves hanging over the crook of one arm. She looked like she was having fun, which was more than he could ever say for himself.
"Hm...yeah. Most of my clothes are getting...dated." Archaic, more like. "So I have to buy new ones."
He gestured with the arm holding two near-identical blue sweaters and sighed. "The clerk says these are good but I don't know...is there even a difference?"
shopping! { azusa + shu
— ♩ If she was asked to choose between being a saver or spender, Azusa would answer without a doubt the former. It was something her parents had taught her from a young age and carried well once her college days were over; not even the safety of a hefty bank account allowed her to splurge.
Most of the time.
With a handful of scarves on one arm and a coat in another, she skipped about the store; the happy tune in her lips followed by another salesclerk who either was waiting to help the idol as well or ask for an autograph. Or both, one never knew.
“Oh my, Shu! Are you here to get something as well?” She exclaimed, walking up to the heir the moment she spotted him rounding a corner. It was a rare sight seeing him out and about, especially in such a bright, noisy place.

"Hey there, little one!"
It's one of those days where his mother is much too busy too zero in on his every move, so Shu's managed to sneak away without much trouble. Edgar is probably still down with his cold, as he'd told him a day before when it was only starting, so Shu makes himself content with playing on his own for now.
He is in the middle of making his snow igloo when the girl approaches him and asks if she can help him with his little project. She looks utterly surprised at first and he wonders why- maybe she didn't expect to see a little boy around here? It wasn't that weird- it was just a normal field. He didn't know. But once she gets over her initial reaction she smiles, and it is a nice one. It's one he rarely sees on anyone at home; on his mother or on his brother, or even on that other lady or her children, so he decides that it's a nice change, and that he likes seeing it. And extra pair of hands wouldn't hurt, too, so he lets her, but treads with caution. Talking to strangers beyond exchanging pleasantries because it was the polite thing to do was certainly not his forte.
She is fussy but not in an overbearing way. Delicate hands tug gently on his scarf, making sure it's secure and snug. Whenever a button on his coat comes loose from movement, she is there right away. She works extra hard on the igloo, too (which is really half of what it should be, but they tried) and when it's done the two of them sit inside, close together for warmth. Before he knows it, Shu feels himself starting to nod off because Eru's presence is comforting and warm. Suddenly, something wet plops onto his wrist and he looks up. She looks down on him and she is crying, and it's in that small, awful way where you force a wobbly smile even though you can't stop the tears from falling. He's seen it once, from his mother- that was when he knew he wouldn't stop loving her even if she forces him to study and practice and do things he would really rather not do.
He feels a bit awkward- maybe it is not in his place to pry. He doesn't even really know her, after all, and he isn't used to interacting with anyone like this save for Edgar. Seconds pass and he grows restless and fidgety because he knows this girl shouldn't be crying, she should be smiling as happily as she had been earlier. It doesn't feel right at all. So he takes a deep breath and reaches up and with as much comfort as a ten-year-old could offer, he wipes the tears from her cheeks and asks her why. She says it's because of a "dumb boy" who she thinks might not love her as much as she loves him.
"Well you shouldn't waste any of your energy on someone like him," he offers, even if he isn't the most experienced when it comes to things like this. He rarely sees his parents acting like husband and wife, but he knows they love each other in their own little weird way. Scuffing the tip of one shoe against a small pile of snow outside their little igloo, he continues. "You should...love someone who is nice to you all the time and makes you happy...whoever this person is, he isn't doing a very good job, so...if it makes you feel better, I think he's stupid for making you feel like this."
Then she smiles again, more genuinely this time, and ruffles his hair and hugs him close. It's hard to pinpoint exactly when it is that he falls asleep but when he wakes up, it is to his mother fussing over him and chiding him for running away and playing in the snow and falling asleep in the cold she was so worried please never do that again.
Oddly enough, as he stares down at his chicken soup, he finds himself missing Eru and her warmth, hoping that maybe they'd meet again someday.
