The hardest part for me when I took care of my grandfather until he passed was the resentment and that it would never be resolved. When you care for a child, you have the hope that the resentments that naturally come up when being a caregiver will one day be resolved. You are human and care is hard. Almost no one can do it without some small moment of weakness. Love is what bridges the gap. But when you are a caretaker full time for someone who will pass, there is no time left to resolve the pain of resenting someone you love for the sacrifice of care. You both must travel in opposite directions and must endeavor to heal from it alone. There were moments where I felt so helpless and angry and tired and full of resentment and I hate that any time left with him was wasted on those petty human feelings. But more than anything, I hate that there is no time left for us to look back on it and laugh and make light of it. The only other person who was there is now gone.

One of my favourite things when reading fanfiction is when you click with an author's style so much that you adore the fanfiction you're reading, and once it's over you need more. So you go to their page and hope that there's more for any fandom you might know- only there isn't any. They've written for other fandoms you aren't familiar with and never would've thought about before.

But you're down so bad for their style and talent that they got you wading in like:

This week, I read a fic that was around 20 years old, which had originally been posted on the author's personal website and which she added to AO3 a few years ago. She listed her email address with the fic, so after I finished reading, I sent her an email saying how much I enjoyed the story, how much I appreciated the work and effort she obviously put into it, and thanked her for uploading it to AO3. She responded the next day and thanked me for my message, then said she had a few more stories in the same series that she hadn't gotten around to uploading. I checked this morning--she added a 35,000 word novella and thanked me in the summary.
