rant about hayffie because I’ve just seen a post on tiktok saying that it’s “predatory” to ship them now that we know there’s an age difference…

I fear, and hear me out with this, there is a vast difference between shipping two forty-somethings and shipping a sixteen year old and a twenty three year old … like nobody is SAYING that there was romance going on when haymitch was underage - it is NOT a completely out of order thing to say that maybe their relationship was recontextualised later in life ‼️ equally, they’re fictional characters???? maybe the age difference will be more obvious in the movie and the ship won’t make sense anymore or whatever but I fear that the age gap once they’re older doesn’t take away from the hayffie from the original movies that so many of us know and love - lk I want other peoples opinions on this cos it ground my gears to see people throwing the “predator” word around when it’s, in my opinion, not that deep¿ I essentially just think that this take is (dare I say) chronically online and is causing trouble just because people see a potential divide in the fandom (haydove vs hayffie - please, let’s not make this a thing ffs)

TLDR - two consenting (FICTIONAL) forty year olds are being shipped together and tiktok is mad about it because there’s an 7 year age gap¿ and I want opinions about it 😻‼️

anyone else thinking about effie spending 24 years watching haymitch completely fall apart. effie, who met haymitch by accident, who knows exactly what kind of person he is, who sees him every year on his birthday for 24 years and each year he’s drunker, each year he’s angrier, each year he’s faster to give up. and then they get katniss and peeta. peeta, who is kind and open and understanding, who refuses to give up on haymitch. and katniss, who is so much like haymitch at 16 that it hurts. and over the few days they’re together, effie watches haymitch come back to life. watches him try. watches him have hope. and then they get to keep not one but both of those kids. they get to come home. and then, less then a year later, effie pulls haymitch’s name at the reaping.
