I was watching the HBO documentary on Faye Dunaway and they discussed her and Roman Polanski’s beef on the set of Chinatown, and the stories of Faye being a “difficult” actress, etc. So there was a restaurant scene with Jack Nicholson and Faye, and her hair kept curling and popping out of place until Polanski became progressively angrier, after which he went up to her and ripped the offending hair out of her head. And they tried to paint what was basically assault as a cute little story showing how eccentric Polanski was and it was so weird. Hollywood is like a whole other parallel universe of Weinstein-esque creepy gremlin males who can treat women like shit and it’s tolerated because it’s seen as a privilege to be a “star.” And what’s odd is how Polanski’s wife Sharon Tate was brutally murdered just 5 years before he filmed Chinatown, so you would think that Roman would avoid making content involving violence against women and treat actresses better on set, yet Faye’s character Evelyn Mulwray is the victim of rape and incest and is constantly slapped around by Nicholson’s character. Honestly makes me believe even more that the murder of Sharon was a Satanic human sacrifice ritual implicating Roman but hennyways Hollywood is gross
