it’s so cool to me that even though peeta’s dad was the first one to point out katniss to peeta & told peeta about katniss’ mom, katniss & peeta actually parallel katniss’ parents’ relationship. with the obvious example being peeta himself stating that he fell in love with katniss the same way her mom fell in love with father, by hearing them singing. throughout the books there are millions of little reference that show moments between katniss and peeta mirroring the relationship katniss remembers her parents having.

the most interesting part to me though is that gale almost is stand-in for peeta’s dad. peeta’s dad and katniss’ mom are both from town while katniss’ dad was from the seam. it’s stated time and time again that townspeople and people from the seam are almost worlds apart and that they mostly keep to themselves. katniss even expresses that her mother must have loved her father very much to leave the town AND she makes a comment about how peeta’s mother was probably not that happy about him having a crush on a girl from the seam. both of these suggest that people from the town and people from the seam usually don’t have relationships. gale makes multiple off-hand remarks about this divide between katniss and peeta & it is stated multiple times throughout the books that katniss and gale think similarly because of their life circumstances, similar to how katniss’ mom and peeta’s dad were from similar backgrounds and behaved similarly to each other. katniss & gale’s similarities or their “fire” are what ultimately drives her away and makes her realize that peeta is the opposite of that and it’s what she, herself, says she needs.
