Diving Bell | Bucky Barnes
Summary: Bucky and Reader both get sad on rainy days.
Warnings: Slight angst. Much fluff
A/N: I’m back!
Prepare the diving bell. It's time to take this low again. I sink into myself, low. No need for farewell. I know you always understand.
There were days, like today, where the weather outside mirrored the condition inside of Bucky's head. On these days, where the rain cleaned the city, Bucky tended to fall inside his own mind. More often than not he locks himself away in his room, hiding not from his team but from having to face his own emotions in front of others. Each time he did this you could feel your heart sink into your stomach in worry. And despite your best efforts you could never seem to break through to him during the rainy days. But today you felt the rain and cold creep into your own soul and today, you decided, Bucky would not be sad alone.
Sorry there's no place for you inside the solitude. Just stay up here until I'm back again. I swear I'll be there for you, I swear I'll follow through. Stay the course and keep the ship manned.
"What?" Bucky's voice was barely audible through the sound of your knuckles hitting the door. "It's been raining for two days" You stated matter-of-factly as you gently wiggled his door knob. "Really? I haven't noticed at all" The bite in his voice was colder than the rain hitting the windows. Yet you remained unfazed. Your determination to pull your friend from whatever grip his mind had on him was far heavier than his need to push you away. "Probably because you're something yourself under the blankets like a frightened cat or something" You shot back, smirking when you heard the faintest annoyed sigh. "Just leave me alone Y/N, I'm tired" Your smirk fell into a frown as you wiggled the knob again. "Yeah it's called depression fatigue or some shit just let me in" Bucky pulled the blankets tighter as you continued your incessant wiggling of the door handle. He was sure that soon the knob would give and you'd come tumbling through the door. "Just go-" He stopped mid sentence as the lock popped and you came through the door.
"Y/N" He sat up, taking in the worried expression on your face. Suddenly guilt seeped in and he felt colder than he did before. "I'm fine just" "Just tired yeah I've heard" You didn't face him as you kicked your shoes off. Bucky nearly bolted from the bed when your warm body slipped in beside him. "I'm not asking you to leave your room" Your voice was quiet but seemed almost like a scream in the silence of his room. "I'm just asking you to not be sad alone" Your eyes finally met his and for a brief moment you could have sworn that his eyes were storm clouds. "That's asking for a lot" He said quietly.
I was certain if I fell through the bottom you'd be happy to just float here on your own. I was never quite prepared for the long ride. Oh away, away, away alone.
"It's not really" You quipped, settling under the blanket with him. Bucky's eyes roamed around the room, determined to look at anything but your bright pleading eyes. "Why are you here, Y/N?" He finally asked but still refused to make eye contact. "Because I'm sad too" This finally made his eyes meet yours. "Not as sad as you but still...sad" Despite your confession a small smile graced your soft features. Bucky shifted his body so he was looking toward the ceiling giving you the opportunity to lay your head on his chest.
This was new for both you and Bucky. Aside from the occasional hug your intimate contact was limited. Not that either of you minded the sudden position. You, nor Bucky, would admit the feelings that the two of you had for each other. He insisted, primarily to himself though Steve had to hear the occasional rant, that you were perfect but it was dangerous and the wrong time. You always said that you were too afraid to ruin your friendship with Bucky, after all you were the second closest to him.
But here and now you both couldn't deny the warmth and electric feel that radiated between the two of you. "Why are you sad?" Bucky finally broke the silence that had settled over the two of you. "I hate the rain" You responded. "It's cold and I swear I can feel it sinking into my bones. It just makes everything feel so-" "Heavy" He finished the sentence for you. "Yeah" It came out as a sigh. "Is that it? Just the rain?" He asked, his flesh hand now moving soothingly on your back. He hadn't even noticed he started doing it until he felt your tense muscle relax. "Hm there's one more thing. Maybe I'll share if you tell me what's got you so down and out" His hand stopped and his body tensed. "It's not important I'll get over it" He said lowly.
"If it makes you sad then it's important. Stop hiding behind your tough guy shell Buck. It's me" You prodded softly.
"It's just..It's stupid" Bucky sighed and continued to massage small circles on your back. "It's just..on days like this..the memories eat at my brain. I try so hard to listen to you and Steve and the rest of the team but..I will never not feel gilty for what they made me do" Your heart sank as he spoke with a cracked voice.
You pulled your body up and looked down at his face, brushing back a couple of strands of his hair. "I know..I know theres nothing I can say that will take that guilt and pain away. I wish there was but that will never happen" You spoke softly as your hand cupped his stubbled cheek. "But I can assure you that we do not blame you" This time when you offered a soft smile he returned it. Your words didn't calm the raging storm inside of his brain but it did send a warmth that spread through out his chest. If he were not so afraid, he would have pulled you to him and kissed you there.
"I confessed. Now its your turn" Bucky said as you pulled your hand from his face. You gave a soft laugh before settling back down to lay beside him.
"There's this guy" You started and Bucky could feel that warmth turn to ice again. "He's incredibly handsome and dumb but also smart and funny and when we're together I feel like we're the only two in the room ya know? But I'm scared because we're friends and I'm sure that he only sees me as a friend." As you spoke your heart slammed itself against your rib cage. You couldn't believe that you confessed your feelings to him.
"I think you should go for it" Bucky said despite wanting to tell you that he was he was in love with you. Your chest tightened with fear as you sucked in a nervous breath. "And if he doesn't like me? What if me asking ruins my friendship with him? He means the world to me Buck. I can't lose him" Despite your best efforts your fear crept into your voice. Bucky grew quiet for a few moments before sighing. "Then I'll beat his ass" He said in a dead serious tone. His comment caught you off guard and you erupted into a fit of laughter. "You can't fight yourself doofus" The words flew from your mouth before you had the chance to stop yourself.
Both you and Bucky went stiff as your laughter came to a quick stop. "Oh fuck" You groaned, rolling away from the comfort of Buck'ys body. You sat on the side of the bed, face in your hands as you contemplated running from the room.
"Hey" Bucky spoke softly, moving his own body so his chest was pressed to your back. "You're not going to lose me" His said, tone gentle as he gave the top of your head a soft kiss. You moved your hands from your face and tilted your head back to look at him. This was the first time during a rainy day that you got to see his bright smile. "Because I want to be with you as more than just a friend too" He confessed. Your face split into a grin. Any nerves that were tense before were flooded with relief. He shifted your body so you were now facing him. "I've been wanting to tell you for so long. I was just so scared. You mean the world to me. Losing you would've crushed me" You admitted.
"I know thee feeling, sweetheart" He said. "Watching you flirt with people on missions drove a knife into me every time I swear" He laughed, causing you to laugh as well. "Didn't take you for the jealous type, Barnes" You teased, earning another laugh from him. "Oh you have no idea" He matched your teasing tone. Quickly after, a comfortable silence fell over the two of you. The only noise filling the room was your breathing and the sound of the rain hitting the window.
"Best rainy day ever" He whispered, breaking the silence before your lips met in the most passionate kiss either of you have experienced.

Telepathic | Sam Wilson
A/N: Requests are still open! Feel free to send them in.
Warnings: Fluff. Clint and Reader like to argue
If I had my way, I would run to the rescue, but it never works that way when you call a bluff.
“Eighty bucks says Y/N puts him through the table before the night is over” Natasha said, a smirk forming on her lips as she watched Y/N and Clint go back and forth over something trivial. The last time she heard them arguing it was over the proper way to layer lasagna, but she was sure by now the argument had moved on to something else. Sam laughed from beside her, his eyes trained on Y/N’s face as she got increasingly more frustrated. He felt his heart swell with an emotion he couldn’t quite place a name on. It was a mixture of love and amusement. “Nat!” Y/N suddenly looked over to the two of them with a deep frown. “Please tell bird brain here that tacos are not a sandwich..what kind of person thinks tacos are sandwiches?!” She huffed out a breath after her long winded sentence. From his spot on the couch Sam could see Clint smirking and he gave another laugh, knowing that he only did this to send Y/N on a tangent.
“I’m not part of this” Natasha laughed before getting up and making her way to the kitchen. A smart move. Everyone knew that Y/N’s and Clint’s debates could get a little wild and physical. Y/N looked deflated as Natasha moved out of her view. “Traitor” She sighed before turning her attention to Sam. “What do you think Sam?” She asked, her voice softening as she spoke to him. And just the way his name fell from her mouth made his heart thump loudly against his rib cage. “I think you’re right and Clint is an idiot” He responded, earning a smile from Y/N. The way her smile lit up her face did nothing to calm his heart beat.
Clint rolled his eyes, throwing his hands up in defeat before shaking his head. “You two are only agreeing with each other because you want to-“ “You end that sentence and I will end you” Y/N glared at him. Clint only offered a smirk until Y/N walked away, then he began to laugh. “Seriously?” He cut his attention to Sam who remained on the couch. Instead of waiting for Sam to respond he dropped into Natasha’s abandoned spot beside him. “What are the two of you waiting on? We all see it” Clint said lowly, earning a glare from Sam now. “Man shut up. You have no idea what you’re talking about” He murmured.
You had me under spell right from the start but I don't have a telepathic heart.
After his conversation with Clint, Sam made his way from the living quarters to his room. The only thought he had running through his mind was you. He couldn’t pin point the exact moment you had become the center of his attention but recently you were all he could think about. From the way you hid your face when you laughed to the way you grew completely still and quiet when you were angry. He was so enamored by everything Y/N did. One could only imagine his surprise when he found the focal point of his thoughts standing nervously outside of his door. “Sam!” You spoke, your voice a little breathy. It was something Sam knew you only did when you were anxious. “Y/N! Are you okay?” He asked, the way concern flooded his voice only served as a reminder as to why you were here. Everything Sam did was with warmth and love. You couldn’t lie and say you didn’t notice. It was why you gravitated toward him to begin with. Despite everything Sam Wilson had been through in his life, he was still the most gentle and caring person you knew. You couldn’t deny the feelings that increasingly developed the more you spent time with him. At times it felt like he could read your mind, he seemed to know exactly what to do and say when you needed it. You found the thought of him filling your dreams since the first time he made you laugh.
“Oh..uh yeah..everything is great I just..um” You stammered over your words, cursing yourself in your mind. You took a deep breath to steel your nerves before you spoke again. “I’m here because I think I love you..well I don’t think I know and I didn’t want you to hear it from Clint because Clint is a total dick wagon and if someone is going to expose my secret it’s going to be not Clint. Definitely not Clint” You rambled on, your eyes never meeting his until you felt his hands grab yours. When you finally looked up you were met with his bright smile. The same smile that made your knees weak and made your heart stutter. “Well if we’re exposing secrets that we don’t want Clint to expose then I know for a fact I am in love with you too” Sam said gently, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. You felt your heart drop to your feet before sky rocketing it’s way back up to your chest where it abused your rib cage. Without another thought you put his face in your hands and pulled him down and kissed him like you would die if you didn’t.
Sam met your passion with his own, his arms wrapping around you to pull you closer to him as if he were afraid you would disappear if he didn’t.
“Nat! You owe me thirty dollars!” The two of you heard Clint yell out. Sam pulled away, giving you that knee weakening smile again. “Stay with me tonight?” He asked softly earning a bright smile from you. “I couldn’t think of anything else in this universe I would rather do” You responded before connecting your lips with his once more.

Dark on Me | Steve Rogers
A/N: One more for the night. Don’t forget requests are open!
Warnings: Sad steve. Reckless reader.
Call my name as I walk alone. Send a signal to guide me home.
“Breathe Steve” Natasha spoke gently to the man that paced in front of her. “Why would she go dark?” Steve questioned, his voice only hinting at half of the distress he felt since you turned your comms and gps off. “You have to trust in Y/N’s abilities Steve. She’s going to come back” Natasha assured him. Steve wanted to believe her but as minutes turned to hours and hours into two days Steve’s faith was dwindling into nothing.
“Cap!” Sam’s voice broke the silence that had fell between him and Natasha as he came rushing into the room. Steve looked up, his brows furrowed in concern. “She’s back. But she’s not looking to good” Sam said in one breath. Before either Natasha or Sam could stop him Steve was rushing toward the medical wing. If you survived whatever happened to you, he was going to give you the lecture of a lifetime. He stopped when he reached the medical wing, his chest tightening as he took in your appearance. You were bleeding in various places and burned in a few more. Bruce had an oxygen mask strapped to your face as he worked on stopping the bleeding around your chest. “What happened?” Steve questioned as he walked into your room. “We’re not sure but for now I need you to get out. She’s severely burned and susceptible to getting infections” Bruce said as he looked at Steve with sympathetic eyes. “I’ll call you in as soon as I have her wrapped up” He added, earning a solemn nod from Steve. With a heavy heart he turned away from the room and went to wait in the commons area.
It felt like an eternity until Bruce came to find him. The moment he walked into the room Steve was on his feet. “She’s stable and going to make it but she’s not going to be herself for a while okay?” Bruce took his glasses off and cleaned them nervously as he spoke to the super soldier. “Did she ever say what happened?” Steve felt small as he spoke. His heart was thumping rapidly in his chest, beating against his ribs like an enraged bull. “No. The first thing she asked for when she woke up was you” Bruce sighed, putting his glasses back on his face. “Maybe she’ll tell you” He added before leaving Steve alone. Steve tried and failed to steady his rapid beating heart before he went off to find you.
I could lie awake just to watch you breathe. In the dead of night, you went dark on me.
By the time Steve had made it to you, you were asleep again. His heart felt like it was being constricted as he watched you sleep. Most of your body was covered in bandages and the skin that was left exposed was an angry shade of red. “Y/N” Your voice fell from his lips in a shaking whisper. His hands reached out but recoiled in fear of waking and hurting you. Instead he settled his body in the chair beside your bed, his eyes trained on your chest as it slowly rose and fell. He feared that if he looked away you would stop breathing.
After what felt like hours to Steve your eyes fluttered open and you glanced over at him. “Steve?” Your breathed out shakily. “I’m here” He said, bolting from his spot in the chair so he could be directly by your side. You tried to reach for him but ended up crying out in pain. “Y/N” Steve gently placed his hand on your bandaged arm before leaning down to kiss your lips with a softness you didn’t know anyone could possess. “Don’t move, okay?” He spoke quietly against your lips before he pulled away. You hummed in response before clearing your throat. “I’m sorry I cut off all communication” You said quietly. Steve opened his mouth to question you but you cut him off. “Listen. Before you start lecturing me and guilt tripping me you need to understand” You spoke quickly, your words rushed before he could begin his famous moral rants. With a few cries of pain and Steve’s help you sat up in the bed. “I had been compromised. If I didn’t cut everything off they would have found the rest of you..they would have killed you” You explained, your eyes catching Steve’s as you quietly asked for his forgiveness. “Y/N you almost died” His voice managed to sound both gentle and angry. “We could have handles-“ “No Steve there were hundreds of them” He stared at you before his shoulders slumped. “I did what good soldiers do. I took the hit to save my team” You added.
“Y/N..you’re not just a soldier your my wife” He said after a moments pause. “If you had not made it..” His voice trailed off as he slid his hand under yours. “You would have done everything in your power to bring me back” You said, your face splitting into a smile. “That’s another reason why I did it, Steve. Because my faith in you and us..-“ “We’ll always come back to each other” He said with you.

The Only Hell I Know is Without You | Bucky Banres
A/N: I haven’t written in a very long time so I’m sorry in advance.
Warnings: Angst, swearing and mentions of self harm and suicidal thoughts. It gets better I swear!
Because I know you’re lost when you run away, to the same black holes and bad mistakes.
Bucky knew exactly where to find you after the last mission had ended on a more than terrible note. He didn’t know why you liked this particular pub so much, but he hated it. It felt like every time you were here something bad had happened and you came here to either drown your anger and sorrow in bad beer or even worse men.
“Welcome to Dugan’s!” A small woman shouted from behind the bar as he stepped inside the dimly lit building. Bucky gave a nod to her before his eyes scanned the interior for you. The moment he found you his heart sank down into his stomach. For once in the three years that Bucky knew you, he had never once seen you cry. Until now. Slowly and cautiously he made his way to your booth where you sat with a tall glass of beer in front of you and he was thankful you were not preoccupied with another stranger. His heart ached as he slid in front of you and heard you try to contain the sobs that made your body tremble. “Y/N” Bucky spoke softly, causing you to tilt your head up and stare at him. His first instant was to reach out and hold you, to make you feel safe and okay again, but he refrained in fear that you would pull away.
“They’re dead because of me” You said before a fresh wave of tears stained your face. “I fucked up Bucky..I..can’t..how do I fucking live with this?” You tried to swallow the hard lump that formed at the base of your throat but couldn’t quite manage. Bucky watched as your hand curled into a fist beside your beer. “You did what was necessary” He spoke, finally meeting your blood shot eyes. “Necessary?” She questioned, your sadness bubbling into anger. “How is killing civilians necessary?!” As your sadness faded into rage aimed toward yourself Bucky lost the self-control to not touch you. His hands wrapped around your wrists loosely and his thumbs worked on rubbing small gentle circles on your skin. “It was necessary because if those three people didn’t die then a thousand more would have. I know it’s a hard pill to swallow but you can’t save everyone all of the time, Y/N” He spoke quietly. “People die. Even though we try they die” He added.
“But I could have..” Your voice trailed off as you focused on his thumbs making patterns on your skin. You hated to admit that he was right. You hated even more that he was able to soothe you so quickly. A few moments passed as the two of you sat in silence. You were thinking over his words as he was thinking over how he should admit that he has been in love with you since the day you met. “Bucky..” You finally broke the silence as a sudden wave of exhaustion hit you. Between the crying and the beer the only thing you wanted now was to sleep. “Can I stay with you tonight? I don’t think I can be alone tonight not stable right now. I don’t want to do something I’ll end up regretting in the morning” You said, knowing that the man in front of you knew you better than anyone else. He didn’t make you elaborate, instead he gave you a nod and moved to slide from his booth. You followed suit, making a stop at the bar to pay for your beer before you followed Bucky out of the pub.
One day the Earth will open wide and I will follow you inside because the only hell I know is without you.
“You wouldn’t actually..?” Bucky trailed off as you walked side by side. “I wouldn’t kill myself if that’s what you’re asking..running away is a possibility though” You answered, meeting his worried eyes with wide sad ones. “But I..I don’t think I could ever forgive myself for getting those civilians killed”. Bucky stopped suddenly and turned his body to you. His metal arm rested heavily on your shoulder as his flesh had gently wiped away the fresh tears that fell on your cheek. “Y/N” His voice was lower now, deeper with the emotions that coursed through him at the thought of losing you. You tried to look away from him but the way he held your face forced you to look into his eyes. “You can’t leave me or hurt yourself over this Y/N” As he spoke, he pulled you closer to him. “What happened..we all have blood on our hands. It doesn’t get easier, but you get through it” He pressed a soft kiss to the top of your head before pulling away to look at your face again. You wiped away your tears with a soft sigh. “I know..I know but the wound is still so fresh Buck” You admitted, your shoulders slumping in defeat. “I know, darlin.. but you have to stay..” He gently cupped your face in his hands. Before you could counter to reassure him you didn’t plan on dying or leaving tonight his mouth was moving again.
“You gotta stay because I just now got the courage to tell you that I love you and I can’t.. I won’t lose you” His words came out rushed, jumbled together but still hitting you full force. You stared at him for a moment as your brain and chest registered that he loved you. Bucky, your best friend who you had more than best friend feelings for reciprocated the feeling. You stayed silent as your brain battled your thumping heart. “Bucky I..” He silenced you with a soft kiss. “You don’t have to say anything tonight Y/N,,I know your emotions are running rampant right now.. just stay with me tonight and we can discuss this in the morning” He assured you. And for the first time since you got back from the mission your eyes stopped crying. Silently you wrapped your arms around Bucky and leaned your head on his chest. “I love you too Barnes” You whispered quietly. And for the first time that night everything felt alright.
