Broken - Draw for Leliana's Week 2024
This is my participation for @lelianazine Leliana’s Week Event #lelianaweek2024
Prompts used: Day 3 Spymaster. Also used: Warden, Ravens, nugs, Romance. Leliana and her Warden, broken by distance in DAI, by an unfair situation that they cannot fight against in my fanfic: Cloaked by Shadows//Envueltas en sombras.
It’s also a personal draw that I started just the day after my world shattered. It might be beautiful but it holds all the pain that people suffer when they love each other. It has a deep meaning that I wanted to express on paper.

Prompt: bows
Pairing: Leliana x female Tabris
Words: around 1500
The arrow sails past the makeshift target and misses by a wide margin. Leliana tracks it's flight until it thuds into the tree trunk behind it, startling a Raven perched in the sunlight. The bird squawks, feathers flaring, before dissolving into a swirl of dark magic that reforms into Morrigan.
Morrigan folds her arms, her narrowed eyes sharp beneath her dark hood. "I don't suppose," she drawls, brushing at her robes, "that you might practice your.spectacular failures in a direction that isn't quite so near to where I was attempting to rest"
By the cooking fire, Alistair smirks, barely bothering to hide it.Leliana doesn't have to look at him to hear the grin in his face."that's another point for the tree, Kallian! Though I think you might have ruffled more than just feathers this time "
Kallian doesn't turn, but Leliana notices the tips of her ears darken, the flush creeping down toward her beck "oh piss off," Kallian snaps, her voice louder than it needs to be."unless you want to try your sodding luck with a bow instead of hiding behind that shield?"
"Oh yes,do encourage him,"Morrigan says sharply, sweeping back to her corner of camp with exaggerated care, her movements almost regal "I've not yet had the pleasure of two incompetents today."
Leliana suppresses a smile, her gaze lingering on Kallian's taunt shoulders.the warden is trying too hard too hard to mask her frustration, though the flush along her neck gives her away. Leliana steps forward, folding her arms."enough distractions,"she says gently, though her voice leaves both room for argument."Kallian, let's adjust your stance before you bring the whole camp into danger."
-She's adorable when she's flustered.the thought slips though before Leliana can catch it.
"Your blades won't help if the enemy is beyond your reach,"she says gently.she reaches out to correct Kallian's stance, letting her fingers find the curve of her hips."Here, your stance is all wrong."
Kallian stiffens but doesn’t pull away. "Ain't nothing wrong with my stance," she snaps, though the defensive edge in her voice doesn’t hide the way her breath catches as Leliana’s hands adjust her position.
Kallian stiffens but doesn't pull away."Ain't nothing wrong with my bloody stance,"she snaps, though the defensive edge in her voice doesn't hide the way her breathe catches as Leliana's hands adjust her position.
"Your feet should be here."Leliana taps Kallian's boot with her own, ignoring Zevran's exaggerated wink as he sharpens his daggers nearby "and your hips- "her hands slide over the firm line of Kallian's waist, brushing against sun-warmed skin where her tunic shifts. A daunt flush darkens the rich bronze of Kallan's back, the change visible even in the camps dappled light."need to be square to the target "
"Square to the target, eyes on the prize, yes?" Zevran calls out helpfully. "Much like other pursuits,no?"
Wynne's disproving "Zevran!"only makes Kallian's shoulders shake with suppressed laughter
"Focus," Leliana murmurs near Kallian's ear, though she can't quite keep the amusement drum her voice. "unless you'd pefer to hit the target by accident"
"Right then."Kallian's voice comes out rougher than usual.she clears her throat."you gonna be this hands-on with all your students "
"Only the particularly hopeless ones." The tease slips out naturally, and Leliana feels Kallian's silent laugh.
"Oi!, I ain't hopeless." But there's a smile in Kallian's voice now. "just cause I didn't spend years prancing about in some fancy Orlesian court-""
"No prancing required for archery, I assure you." Leliana's hands rest lightly on Kallian's hips.she knows she should step back, put some distance between them, but she stays "though I must say"she murmurs, her lips twitching into a faint smile, "The way you're glaring at the target might frighten it into staying. Still"
Kallian huff, dragging a hand over the back of her neck. The movement draws Leliana's attention to the saint sheen of sweat on her skeat glistening on her skin, to the tension still knotted in her shoulders."better than missing it and hitting someone's camp bed, innit?. "
Leliana let's her smile linger, her voice Wolff as she teases,"perhaps .though I can't help but notice how determined you look when you're flustered"
Kallian's head snaps around,golden-brown eyes narrowing as they meet Leliana's "Flustered?" The word comes out sharp, defensive, and yet Leliana notices the saint colour blooming along her cheekbones."I ain't flustered " Kallian adds quickly, her voice low and rough
"No?" Leliana tilts her head, her expression one of serene amusement. "Your shoulders are tense, your grip on the bow is uneven, and you keep rubbing your neck like you’re trying to wipe the nerves away." Her voice dips, warm and teasing. "But I suppose I could be mistaken."
"No?"Leliana tilts her head, her expression one of serene amusement."your shoulders are tense, your grip on the bow is uneven, and you keep rubbing your neck like you're trying to wipe the nerves away." Her voice dips, warm and teasing. "but I suppose I could be mistaken"
"Yeah?,notice anything else interesting while you're at it?"
The challenge in Kallian's tone makes Leliana's pulse jump.she forces her voice to stay light "I notice you're still holding the bow wrong."
"Pfft." Kallian adjusts her grip, her movements sharper now. "Better?"
"Almost,"Leliana sats, stepping closer once more. Her hands find Kallian's again, steadying her fingers along the bowstring. Her touch lingers, despite herself.there's a tremor in Kallian's hands-or perhaps it's Leliana's-and she almost says something before the clash of metal shatters the moment.
The bow creaks as Kallian draws the string, her muscles tight with effort. Leliana leans in unconsciously, close enough to catch the saint event of pine and leather that clings to Kallian "good , " she murmurs, voice soft and low "now relax your shoulders.breathe with me"
Kallian's breathe stutters, then hitches altogether."Bit hard to breathe with you this close" she mutters, almost too quiet to hear
Leliana's lips twitch into a smile she can't quite suppress. Her breath brushes against Kallian's ear as she teases, "Close?, am I distracting you"
The silence stretches between tgem, tight as the drawn bowstring. Kallian shifts, her jaw tightening, and Leliana's eyes linger on the way her hands grip the strung with too much force. There's a flush high on Kallian's cheekbones, faint but visible, and Leliana isn't sure if its from effort or... something else.
"You...ain't making this easy," Kallian mutters, her voice rough
Leliana's pulse stumbles, the words sending an unwelcome warmth racing though her. Her hands remain on Kallian's and for a moment, she simply holds still, caught between moving away and leaning closer "focus Kalli"she says softly, though her voice betrays her unsteadness. "If you can't aim with me, how will you manage when the enemy is closer "
The words land heavier than she intends. Kallian swallows hard, her knuckles whitening on the bowstring. When she releases, the arrow goes wide.
"Shite,"Kallian grows lowering the bow and stepping out of Leliana's grasp. She rubs the back of her neck, her laugh us brittle, a hollow sound meant to fill the space between them."guess I'm hopeless after all"
Leliana steps back, giving them both space to breathe. Her hands feel oddly empty now "Perhaps we should take a break?"
"Yeah." Kallian turns, ands there's colour to her cheeks that has nothing to do with exertion. "This was your idea anyway. Telling me I need to 'diversity my skills' or whatever fancy way you put it."
"And I stand by that."Leliana collects the scattered arrows, buying time to steady her voice. "Though I admit, watching you struggle has it's entertainment value."
"Oh aye, so that's how it is, yeah?" Kallian's grin turns sharp. "you just wanted to get me all worked up?"
- Yes. No. Maker help me. "I would never be so devious."
"Course not." Kallian steps closer, Into Leliana's space now "you're just being helpful. All proper and professional-like "
"Exactly." Leliana meets those golden- brown eyes. Holds the gaze overlong. "Though if you pefer a different teacher--"
"Don't you dare." The words come fast, almost angry. Then softer: "I mean... you're doing fine. Teaching, that is."
"Don't you bloody dare." The words come fast, almost angry. Then softer " I mean..you're doing fine.teaching, that is"
Something warm unfurls in Leliana's chest. "Just 'fine'?"
"Don't push your luck." But Kallian's smile is real now, soft around the edges. "Same time tomorrow then?"
"Don't push your luck." But Kallian's smile is real now, soft around the edges."same time time tomorrow then?"
"If you wish"-Please wish it.
"Right." Kallian hesitates, then snatches up the bow again. "Might as well get a few more shots in."
Leliana takes her position behind her, games trailing over familiar curves.
Tomorrow, she thinks, they will really focus on archery.
She doesn't believe it for a second.

Leliana Week 2024: Day 2
This is for @lelianazine's Leliana Week 2024. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to write much yesterday. This is definitely not my greatest work, because I have had major writer's block for a long while, but I hope this is good, still...if not a little angsty.
Prompt:
Day 2: Past/Present/Future
Ship: Inquisitor Trevelyan/Leliana
Summary: In the dark corpse of Redcliffe's future, the shadow of a nightingale lingers, bloodied and marked. Promises had been made, and promises had been broken. Could Leliana dare allow Inquisitor Trevelyan to keep the one sworn in folly times?
~
The blood had been in her mouth; longer, it seemed, than any sweet wine or lover's kiss. A tainted blood, like a sickness drawn out for too long, leaving the heart empty of all fire, ashes in the grave. Red was behind her eyes, and red all around. A deep bleeding red, one that crawled at the corner of her eyes as scarlet shadows, in the crude shapes of memories mocking. The ice of a blade, the mocking words, the demanding commands - a feeling and all noises had melted into one, a long shrill note which stabbed her ears, crying.
When the door swung open, light broke through, a silvery-blue glow that sliced apart the pungent darkness before her and slashed the fringe of crimson that tore at her eyes. They fled, like so many cowards she had known. Was she a coward, for refusing death for so long? Did Leliana dare wish to greet Justinia with failure and accusations in hand? Could she bare to allow her old love to see that Marjolaine had been right all along? That she was no different than her, despite the words, despite the promises. That in the end Leliana had been too weak?
You promised to live, said a ghost that should had long departed. A ghost with flowers strewn in her hair and the glint of light tracing across the surface of sapphires. You promised and lied.
Iron kissed and tore through her flared leather gloves, crusted blood, dark and twisting, flowing along the rusted chainmail and leather like ribbons of old grief. In her madness, Leliana could have sworn that older whispers sang to her, born from the glowering red that held her mind in stony, unrelented grasp? Her limbs had long lost all feeling, and the blood had long ceased. The Venatori would allow it to flow - at this own time, whenever they wish to grant themselves a moment of cruel pleasure. Not like Leliana would ever give it to them, of course. The lost sister had too much pride in that, she had learned - had always known, in truth.
But the light had come through, breaking the tedium of a ritual she had long grown accustomed to. And from the sickly spear came forth a shadow that should have never appeared. Alexandra. The word sprung out like the first bells of the shattered Grand Cathedral.
And there she was, pale as moonlight with that shrouded mane of raven curls - untouched by time. And those eyes...emerald green splattered with gold, the woven hands of the dawn's russet fingers brushing along the wind-shuddered lines of grassy meadows. Crowded shadows draped in crimson leaped back in terror, crawling deep behind her vision, to almost give the illusion they had disappeared. For a brief moment, the wailing song seemingly halted, a shuddered breath released, like the last gasp stolen by a dagger's piercing touch. Only silence floated in her mind. Silence and the glow of Alexandra's eyes.
She could not recall what was said, though her mouth spoke and her legs have lifted up to wrap around the neck of her torturer. The muffled struggles of a man, fingers digging and scrapping along the nicked greaves she still wore, before her hips twisted sharply and there was a sharp crack; and when her thighs loosened, the man fell before her like a empty sack, with no bled shed. Good. Leliana was tired with red.
Her mouth moved, but still the words did not latch onto her mind. They crawled and slide from ear to ear, a mere blur that held no meaning. But the echoes of locks being turned danced in her ears, and her limbs feel loose at her side as blood slowly returned to them. And then her face was pressed against Alexandra's neck - vanilla with something sweeter but sharper beneath that, and arms wrapped around her waist, holding her up. And for a moment, Leliana felt the tears threatening to stalk out. The steel locks and chains she have woven around her heart rusted over the years; and with their snapping release, so too were the emotions that Leliana swore she had lost. Relief and anger, joy and grief. Her tongue felt heavy with its weight, unused to the feeling. Almost overwhelming to her. Perhaps that was why she leaned deeper into the younger woman, feeling an arm wrap around her waist, holding her weight - because she could not recall the feeling of standing on her own for so long, surely. That was the reason, definitely.
She drew back, her gaze upturned to meet the Herald's. Only concern reigned in those gaze, twisted as cords of lightning piercing through the swelling darkness born by rage. Good, said the Nightingale. Alexandra, said the Sister. "Herald," said Leliana, in a whisper not even she could hear. She could not trust herself to say that name, least it turn to a lie, into another fleeing shadow that promised her a false peace. "You're alive."
And then she smiled in in that endearing, easy manner that promise she had been up to no good. "Just barely. There were...complications." Her voice halted, as if unsure what she can say - a rarity for Alexandra Trevelyan. "But, yes, Leliana. I am alive." Her hand reached up, the one marked by her Lady that had long abandoned her. The touch was more splendid than any drink. "I am alive, and you are safe." Leliana could feel the muscles in her arm tigtened as she held her close, almost as if she could not believe it either." Leliana's face was drawn back into her neck, and she could feel wetness in her hair. "I am alive...and I am so sorry."
The shade of Leliana draw her arms around her neck. "I am too."
