Some of pieces I make are packed with emotion for me.🙃😂🥺. The emotions are mixed and for many different reasons. Often I create and work in my studio as a way of dealing with things so the finished work often reminds me of those times and the sometimes hard lessons that I have learned. 📚 💪 Other emotions come from results. Elation because the outside of the pot was better than I thought mixed with disappointment about the glaze that crazed on the inside. 😢🤩 Even the clay and materials hold memories. I bought these unfinished bowls from a master craftsman thrower in Jingdezhen, China. 🇨🇳 I painted them while I thought of my friend Huang Fei who has taught me so much about painting and life and so many things. He is still recovering from an accident we were in 7 months ago. 🦽 The biggest lesson he has taught me is no matter what, always do your best. Even if your best is not as good as you want it to be. 💪❤️ Set your goals and keep going. ⭐️ 🌙 I painted, glazed and fired the bowls during Firing #15 of Soda Kiln. I am online learning this ancient Chinese technique from my friends in Mainland China. This type of mending pottery has examples that are 1100 years old(Tang Dynasty) I’m fascinated. Rings and cones are put into the kiln. When the kiln is over 2000 degrees F we spray a soda solution in. The solution turns into a vapor that glazes the pots.
