Favorite brand?

Angelic Pretty followed closely by Royal Princess Alice. I usually go with AP because I have mostly bought AP. It's widely available on various sites and it's easier for me to remember the names of their prints.

Do you focus on making your wardrobe cohesive?

I try to but I mostly try to balance my wardrobe by sweet and goth/sweet.

Who were your biggest non-celebrity lolita influences? (that is, someone who influenced your style but is not a youtuber, model, artist, etc.)

This is such an interesting question for me because I feel like I found about lolita through those who use SM the most. Plus my comm has several girls who are models and before I started going to meets, I followed those girls on various SM platforms and was heavely influenced by their styles.

There is a girl in my comm whose style I absolutely love however. She is mostly handmade and wears a lot of hime/goth/ero. I love how she breaks the rules and still looks fantastic every time. I've never seen this girl look bad in anything.

Do you let social media influence your coord decision?

I would say just because I have often used it as inspiration to get dressed up when there wasn't anything better to do.

What drew you to the substyles you wear?

Well, the first time I actually wanted to buy lolita fashion, it was Dolly Cat. How those dresses looked made me want to actually get into the fashion. I loved how all the prints looked even if it wasn't a dress I wanted. And even the dresses that didn't have prints had amazing shapes and details that drew me in.

What is a substyle you wouldn't wear?

Country. Although, even that there would probably be an exception to. Honestly, I could wear any substyle but actually doing it is a different thing.

What fashion were you involved in before you started wearing lolita? Did it influence your styling choices?

I'm definitely one of those lolitas who didn't have a fashion sense before getting into it. I used to get random comments from people telling me I had "my own" sense of style but I always felt like I just threw on random clothes. After lolita, I started actually putting together outfits even with normie looking clothing.

How has your style changed from when you first started wearing lolita to now?

I feel like overall I have improved quite a bit from when I started. But I don't think my style has changed at all in five years. When I decided to start buying pieces for my wardrobe, I already had an idea of what kind of style I wanted the most based on what I saw other girls wearing. I really liked sweet & goth and just about everything I own leans in one of those directions or sometimes both!

What is your go-to coord?

My Magic Amulet cutsew. It's easy cause it's an OP and it's a great fit on me, especially with a large waist belt. I always try to change up my coords by using different accent items, like different accessories, socks, etc.

What would you say is your most experimental coord?

I paired a pink blouse with my Milky Cross skirt that's been altered. A lot of people liked it but I felt like it was still an odd combo due to the shape of the blouse. I also have a BtssB dress that I often wear without a blouse due to the interesting sleeves/straps it has.

What's the weirdest or most unconventional thing you've used as inspiration for a coord?

Midsommar, which is a horror movie that takes place in a cult. I have a dress that I bought specifically for a Midsommar themed meet on my birthday and my friends all wore white with me, and I had a giant flower crown like the main character in the film.

What's a lolita style you'd like to wear but are otherwise to scared or broke to try?

I wish I could wear those couture type dresses that are super OTT that AP and BtssB put out every year. I'm definitely too broke to try.

Have you expanded your interest in other J fashion outside of lolita?

Yup! When I first got into lolita, I also got into Menhera and Fairy kei. My love of Menhera just turned into pastel goth.

SHOPPING

what is your dream piece?

Oddly enough, it might not even exist:

Écailles De Lune Shadow Garden JSK - while I'd gladly take it in black, the original ad I saw for it showed a white version that I never saw again on their Taobao site, nor any reseller. It was apparently a test piece and they only made a black colorway. However, I'd like to believe that it exists somewhere, maybe as the only dress in that colorway.

Where do you buy most of your wardrobe from? (i e: lacemarket, direct from brands, etc)

Anywhere I can! Lacemarket, my comm, directly from brands websites, and their stores, from over seas on second hand shopping sites and of course some Taobao sometimes.

What was your best purchase?

Fancy Hospital. I've coorded it in some fun ways.

What was your worst purchasing experience?

Any dress that doesn't fit, duh.

What's the most expensive piece in your wardrobe?

Shadow Dream Carnival in blackxblack.

What's the best bargain brand that you own?

A simple lavendar dress from BttsB. I don't remember the exact cost but I think it was under $100 USD.

What is the most interesting way you've acquired a piece in your wardrobe?

The Apricot JSK I bought in store form Angelic Pretty was the third dress I tried on in their store. I got lucky because they only let you try on 3. The first 2 didn't fit and I was worried I wasn't going to find a piece that fit that I still wanted to wear often. The shop girl there helped me pick between two dresses and I ended up going with the Apricot JSK. Even though it wasn't my first choice, I'm so glad I got it.

Have you ever bought used socks?

I have! They were alwasy clean too.

What is a dress that you're searching for, but have never seen again since release?

Cream Cookie Parade JSK - the 2nd release that had the pink colorway. Also, Lovely Shopping cutsew in grey.

Has your coord ever been ruined by an incorrect stock picture, either in product itself or in colour?

I got an underdress that ended up being longer than the measurements listed on the site so I couldn't wear it under a shorter dress to make it longer without it being horrifically noticable. Thankfully it works for other dresses I have.

What is something you regret buying?

Dolly Cat low waist JSK in lav - it was so cheap but doesn't fit. I hope I can find another low cost one in the future but even then, I don't know when I'll be able to have it altered.

Have you ever bought a dress you knew a friend or comm member wanted to buy?

No, but I did help buy a dress for my friend that was sent to my house first, so I got to try it on before her! (I asked her first of course)

GENERAL LOLITA

When did you first see lolita?

Around 2009 or 2010 in a Barnes & Noble - they had a book full of Japanese street fashion snaps that I looked through. It consisted mostly of visual kei, decora, and lolita!

What is your favourite lolita memory?

Getting to step foot in the physical Angelic Pretty boutique in San Francisco and getting to buy a dress in store, along with several other items I still own. I bought their Apricot JSK in blackxwhite.

Have you had any dreams about lolita?

I have but I have trouble recalling them as my dreams are very spotty and abstract these days.

What is the strangest thing you have done in lolita?

Accidentally going to a rave in a warehouse for new year's. Also going to work in it was pretty strange.

Do you match your room with your aesthetic?

I try to. My dream is to one day own a nice fancy bed to match my desk.

Is there such thing as a lolita “lifestyle”?

I think so! I have a friend who wears it every day and she keeps her aesthetic for everything she owns for the most part.

Do you listen to "lolita music"?

I don't! I've had a lot of people show me related things but I'm just not big on music like I was when I was a teenager.

What is your worst lolita memory?

My birthday last year. Everything went really well at first. I had a good full day of good food, being surrounded by my friends, and some great photos in the park. Then near the end of the day, some random guy shows up and starts doing this weird chant. Some people go along with it at first but then the guy won't leave! We ask him nicely to leave and he just keeps doing this weird singing chant - so we all just packed up and left.

And this is why meeting up in public sucks sometimes.

If you could make any lolita brand could do a collab with any brand, what would that collab be?

Royal Princess Alice and I would want to do city landscape that show cases all kinds of graffiti. The dress would come in sky colorways, like a full landscape photo but with details of street art.

What sort of lolita advice would you give to your younger self?

Be patient, and you'll get to wear every dress you want to someday.

I guess you could say these are my three favorite coords from 2017 - I wore Melty Sky a ton, and I got Fancy Hospital not too long after it came out! I finally added more red to my wardrobe too so I have new ways to wear my RPA dress!

I think I'm gonna load up on sweet until I get sick of it!
