one of my favorite things about Tumblr is that unless you're following a literal brand account or someone who has their first and last name as their username, you can follow someone who's just funny or shares your interests or something for like four years before you find out they're actually a famous artist or have 2 million YouTube subscribers or wrote a book that's considered a keystone reference work in all modern scholarship or whatever. one of many reasons this is the superior social media experience, which is impressive considering how bad it is here

When I was younger everyone cared about Talk Like a Pirate Day. Every September 19th it'd be yars and shivers me timber all the way down, and people took delight in it. Now nobody ever talks like a pirate, on that day or any other. So few of us cling to the old ways. This is where our society went wrong. People not talking about pirates once a year, everything else about society is fine, probably

Polyamorous relationships are not for everyone. Monogamous relationships are not for everyone. Romantic relationships are not for everyone!!! We are all different people with different needs, maybe just stop trying to condense the human experience into a homogenous gray monolith!!! aaaaaaaa

One thing I urge adults to unlearn is the stigma surrounding forgetfulness.

Perfect memory retention is rare. A faulty memory can be the result a host of mental illnesses, from ADHD to PTSD. It's not a sign that someone wasn't listening. I have a friend that has a four year gap in her memory due to trauma. I have another with poor short term memory retention because that's one of their autism symptoms.

Your brain can also trick you into misremembering things. I can't tell you how many times I've remembered putting my keys somewhere and unearthed them in a completely different place. I have to remind myself what my birth date is because I said it wrong once and now the wrong date is in my memory forever. I have to come up with mnemonics for birthdays, anniversaries, and events because my brain doesn't do numbers for some reason.

I see people bicker about forgetting a person's favorite food or what their mothers favorite color. I think it's important to forgive people who forget easily.

never become invested in a celebrity to the point where it'd throw off your life if they turned out to be a horrible person

never let a video game use artificial scarcity to trick you into doing something that isnt fun

never develop any genuine fondness for an ad campaign
