Law glanced at the den den mushi. It hadn’t rang—which was strange since Luffy had a habit of calling everyday. Sometimes even every few hours.

Law shrugged it off. Maybe Luffy was busy, he’d call later.

He didn’t.

Okay, no problem. Luffy probably forgot. He would call tomorrow.

Three days had past with no phone call. It bothered Law a bit.

He licked his lips as he held the den den mushi close to his face, waiting for someone to pick up.

“Yes?” Nami answered. 

“It’s Law,” he said automatically, and it made him want to face-palm himself. Of course Nami knew who it was.

“What can I do for you, surgeon of death?” There was a hint of teasing. Law rolled his eyes, and he shouldn’t have because Nami saw it. “Do you want me to charge you for that?” The den den mushi raised an eyebrow.

“No… Is strawhat around?” Law asked instead. “Haven’t heard from him.”

Mushi Nami’s eyes widened before letting out a muffled giggle. Law frowned, wondering why she was holding back.

“I see. Well, our captain has been busy lately.”

Law’s frown deepened. “Oh. Can I speak with him? We have alliance business to discuss.” It was a lie.

Nami snorted but agreed. “Give me a second. Luffy!”

Law moved his den den mushi back as Nami screamed from the other line. And just like that the den den mushi turned into Luffy.

“Hi, Torao!” Luffy exclaimed with a smile.

“Hi…” 

“What’s wrong?”

Law was quiet, his fingers tapping the table, thinking. “What have you been doing?” He had been curious of what Luffy was up to. Three days was a lot of time to do something exciting.

“Nothing, really. Just catching fish with Usopp and sparring with Zoro—Oh! And trying Franky’s inventions…” Luffy trailed off, explaining all the things he had done. Everything Law missed the last few days.

So he wasn’t busy then. Then, why didn’t he call Law? Why did Nami make it sound like Luffy was doing important work? 

“Are you mad again?” Luffy broke his train of thoughts. “I can tell by the den den mushi,” he added.

Sighing, Law stared at the Mushi Luffy with a small scowl. “No. Well, yes. But at myself. Not you, strawhat.”

“Oh, okay.” He laughed. 

Law was waiting for a what have you been doing? but nothing came. Not even a single explanation of I’m sorry I haven’t called you. Nothing. 

Wait. Law shouldn’t be angry. He was the one getting annoyed anyway. So shouldn’t he be happy?

“Torao?”

He actually had come to miss hearing Luffy say his name.

“I’m still here. I…”

“Yes?”

“I was wondering how come you haven’t called me,” Law blurted out. Mushi Luffy blinked, then laughed, causing Law to huff.

“I thought I was bothering you. So I stopped. Besides, Nami told me that if you wanted to talk to me, you would call me. And you did!” His laughter echoed through the room. It was the most soothing thing to Law.

“A lot of things bother me but I’m used to it,” Law averted his gaze, “and I don’t mind hearing about your day. It’s the only exciting news I get down here.”

Mushi Luffy beamed. “Well, why didn’t you say so? I have so much to tell you! You wouldn’t believe what Sanji cooked for me…”

Law set the den den mushi down and then pulled up a chair. Propping his elbow on the table and resting his chin on his palm, Law listened to Luffy’s story. A calm smile on his face.
