They received a 911 call around 10 a.m. about a body found in the trash compactor room of an 11-story building on 107 East 126th St. As they arrived at the scene, they were greeted by the frantic building manager who led them to the second floor, where the body was found.

detectives approached the scene and saw a gruesome sight. There, lying on the rooftop was the burnt body of a teenage girl. Her clothes were charred, and her skin was blackened, her hair burnt off and her face melted like an old grilled cheese sandwich. Detective Edwards felt a lump form in her throat as she realized the severity of the situation.
Detective Edwards sickened by what she saw walks away from the scene and vomits. She could only image how this girl had suffered and the pain and terror she must have endured in her last moments . . . . .
