i find it so interesting how people act like "critically examining a piece of media" is the opposite of "enjoying that piece of media." rip to you but i actually find it really enjoyable and compelling to dissect and think through the art i engage with
#hands down the biggest compliment i have EVER received as a professor#was towards the end of a script analysis class#when a student told me he'd used the tools we learned in class to analyze an album he'd been listening to#and that it had made him appreciate the art even more thinking about it critically that way#it's just good fun

I'm this close to just sending that trans inclusive radical misogynist post, the one about how there's loads of guys who'll go "oh, you're a man now, great, come shit talk women with us" to every blog insisting that trans men can't have male privilege and it's transandrophobia to say they do. Not every trans man has this experience but it's actually pretty common even for out trans men to be seen as, if not "real" men depending on who you ask, certainly non-women, and encouraged to perform misogyny as part of their social transition.

"We aren't raising kids; we're raising adults. If you want a kind 16-year-old, teach a 6-year-old kindness and give them 10 years of practice. If you want a __ adult, teach a kid how to be __ and give them __ years of practice." - Jon Acuff

I don’t know if I’ve spelled it out on tumblr yet, but I want to talk about The Mammal List.
The Mammal List is something I came up with when I was in a mental health intensive outpatient program four(!!) years ago. The premise is that we are at our core animals, and if I consider myself the way I’d consider a pet cat, I’m much more likely to practice good self-care:
1. Mammals need food. Eat something! If the Hellbeast doesn’t pass judgment on a piece of cheese, neither should you. (She also eats anything small enough to fit in her mouth, so be judicious in that respect. Food is good. Lint is not.)
2. Mammals need hydration. Drink something! It doesn’t have to be water. It could be delicious tuna juice. You’re a discerning creature. I trust you.
3. Mammals need sleep. Make a soft nest and let yourself enjoy it. Knead it until it’s comfortable. Let yourself rest as long as you need. Just existing is hard. You’ve earned a break.
4. Mammals need movement. Take your precious body and do something. Don’t hurt yourself. Be kind.
5. Mammals need stimulation. Treat yourself to a new jingle ball or mousie toy. Get a bird feeder and stare at it. Let yourself really enjoy it. Play is in your nature.
6. Mammals need socialization. I know this one is particularly difficult these days, but if you don’t keep reaching out, you’re going to forget yourself and start biting people.
7. Mammals need cleanliness. Nobody likes scooping the litterbox, but it has to be done. Don’t forget your own body. Make your fur shine. Treat yourself as the luminous creature you are.
And most important of all: don’t feel guilty. This isn’t about deserving (although you do deserve it). You’re an animal and you need these things to survive, and I very much want you to survive.

literally anytime i do anything remotely difficult i suddenly feel as though i am frodo baggins collapsed on mount doom. like i’ll be composing an email and suddenly i cant recall the taste of food nor the sound of water and there’s a giant flaming eyeball hindering my vision and i dont even have my gardeners big strong arms to gently cradle me

Denim Jacket
c.1850
United States
This jacket would have been worn over a woman’s work dress or blouse, most likely while she labored outdoors. Its construction mimics the fashionable hourglass silhouette of the period, with tucks that cinch at the wrists and natural waistline. Denim is typically thought of as a menswear textile, but it was also common in women’s workwear during the 19th century.

anon bc im not trying to get super targeted but i work in passports for DOS and i wanted to let you or anyone who doesn’t have a passport, or whose ppt is expired, or who has theirs expiring—right now (typically october to feb) is our slow season, so if you apply now, you will likely get your passport in, like, a couple weeks (depending). in fact, from things i’m hearing through the union grapevine (we are unionized!), more work in now would be helpful for us as we head into the transition.
as others have said, you can change the gender marker on your passport without any documentation! we have an X you can choose in lieu of M or F! (major) name changes do require a court ordered name change order.
you can renew online IF your most recent ppt was a 10 year book (aka you weren’t a minor) and you’re not trying to change your name or anything.
if you’re renewing by mail (you can use a regular stamp and envelope) be sure to SIGN THE APPLICATION! DO NOT E-SIGN AND PRINT! this is one of the most common things we have to send apps back for. make sure you follow the photo guidelines (another common issue—yes, the background needs to be white and have no patterns, no, you can’t wear a headband, yes religious headwear is allowed, just send in a note saying that’s what it is).
fill out everything to the best of your ability; this helps us process your app quickly.
this has been a psa from your terrified but determined fed drone
