ah! didnt see u there! u caught me indulging in one of my most fascinating interests as of late. its called a "dictionary". *turns page and softly chuckles* oh, this is clever...

" i did not say old friend. "

even despite his speech abilities improving so drastically, adam has always remained direct. his voice is firm, a subtle threat as his eyes never once leave nicholas. his gaze remains fixed on him well after questions have been asked.

he sits down on a chair to be hospitable — he is not the same as he was before. hands rest on his knees, sitting on the edge of his seat. ready to leap up if any trouble were to arise. he's smarter now, sharper.

adam can sense nicholas knows this as well.

" no. i don't drink. "

adam denies the drink before it's even offered out to him. he knows well enough by now that nicholas' intentions were never innocent as eyes flit to the brandy poured, eyes flicking back up to the man holding the alcohol. he remains stone cold, unflinching. after a while, he finally addresses what nicholas asked of him.

" ... i went to university — i have ... learned many things. i understand how things — how people work better now. " a pointed comment, coupled with a pointed stare.

HE  EYES  ADAM  WITH  DISDAIN,  but  still  keeps  the  smile  on  his  face.  he  is  no  stranger  to  putting  on  a  friendly  face  even  in  the  most  unfortunate  situations  he  finds  himself  in,  but  he  is  already  in  dread  of  whatever  conversations  await  him.  he  could  handle  it,  of  course,  but  he  didn't  want  to  deal  with  it.  he  is  not  the  best  at  facing  emotional  confrontations,  not  especially  when  they  involve  his  past  misdeeds.

"  how  thoughtful  it  was  of  you  to  drop  by.  to  ...  'check  in',  on  an  old  friend.  "  

his  smile  finally  falters  a  bit,  eyes  glancing  down  briefly  before  meeting  adams  once  again.  

"  i  do  hope  you  hadn't  gone  out  of  your  way  too  much  just  to  see  me.  "  

his  tone  sounded  a  bit  sharp  and  harsh,  as  if  subtly  hinted  that  he  wasn't  very  happy  about  it.  however  his  tone  picked  up  in  his  next  line.  he  rubbed  his  hands  together.

"  well!  i  suppose  i  should  be  a  bit  more  hospitable  to  you.  feel  free  to  have  a  seat.  would  you  care  for  a  drink?  "  

he  gestures  a  hand  out  toward  the  chairs,  eyes  still  set  on  adam.  they  seemed  to  be  in  a  small  stand-off,  which  he  could  sense.  he  moved  away  from  him,  towards  his  own  cupboard  to  take  out  a  brandy  for  himself.  he  spoke  as  he  poured  it.

"  i  would  be  most  interested  to  hear  what  you've  been  up  to  these  days.  "  he  pauses,  reiterating.  "  most  interested  ...  "

" even monsters such as i can love. "

" nicholas can love too ? " he pauses for a moment, not expecting this from him. he had always heard nicholas swear off even the concept of love before. he slowly nods, thinking about what he said, turning it over in his mind. after a moment, however, his eyebrows furrow as he looks back up to nick.

" is .. nicholas a monster ? "

"  now,  adam,  you  really  should  have  a  bit  more  variety  in  your  wardrobe.  "  <- says  the  man  who  constantly  only  wears  gray  suits

he's towering over nicholas, expression unreadable ( yet unmistakably intimidating. ) it has been quite a long time, and no doubt neither of them ever imagined they'd cross paths again. yet here they were, and he couldn't wait to watch nicholas squirm.

he's heard he's taken in a new 'apprentice' — knowing firsthand how nicholas treats those around him he's anything but trustful. he'd only come back at first to see carolyn, but decided to pay his old 'friend' a long overdue visit.

" hello, nicholas. " he speaks calmly, watching nicholas' expression flip. his eyes flit from the twitch in his mustache, back to his eyes. he steps forward slightly, head craning to stare him down.

" i was just in town again ... i figured i'd stop by and pay you a visit after all these years ... "

"  ...  ADAM  ?  "  

for  a  moment  he  appeared  to  be  genuinely  taken  back  with  furrowed  eyebrows  and  a  frown,  which  is  not  something  that  he  is  very  often.  out  of  all  his  previous  encounters  in  Collinsport,  adam  was  someone  that  he  never  expected  to  see  again  ...  nor  hoped  to  see  again,  for  that  matter.

catching  onto  his  own  display  of  surprise,  he  changed  his  expression  just  as  quickly  as  his  initial  reaction.  a  false  friendly  smile  spreads  across  his  mustache,  he  wasn't  really  happy  to  see  him,  not  at  all.  

"  what  a  most  ...  unexpected  visit.  yes,  indeed  ...  it's  been  a  long  time  for  you  and  i,  hasn't  it.  "  

he  continues  his  plastered  fake  smile  as  his  eyes  scan  him  up  and  down  briefly  -  venomously.

if  nicholas  knew  any  of  this  sooner,  he  never  would  have  allowed  the  man  to  walk  into  his  house  by  the  sea.  he  would  have  forbid  it.  he'll  be  having  a  serious  talk  with  a  certain  young  lady  later  on  in  the  evening  about  letting  others  into  the  manor  without  his  permission.

"  so,  uh,  what  brings  you  by  ?  "

well that wasn't a very nice thing to say ! adam frowns at the comment, looking down at said turtleneck as he pulls at its collar. he looks back up at him, shielding his face partially with the fabric.

" why would you say that ? green is nice … you should be more like green. "

the only good thing nicholas blair taught adam is how to be bisexual. all his other lessons about life sucked. major L

" no ... nicholas has taught me many good things ... he is good mentor. " ( though indeed, him teaching him how to be bisexual is by far the least questionable ' life lesson ' he has received. )
