tatianawitchdoctor:
She’d been sitting on the bench beside the young med-hopeful for the past ten minutes, trying to convince her to open the intimidating-looking letter. When it was finally ripped open, Tatiana watched as Lana’s eyes darted over the contents and held her breath until the girl announced the news. “Yes!! Good job!!” She exclaimed, reaching out to give the brunette a one-armed hug. “Don’t worry, I won’t say I told you so… But I so told you so.” She teased.
Lana couldn't take the bright smile of her face and she kept on rereading the letter over and over again to assure herself that she had really read it, that she had really gotten in, that she had really made it. "Thank you so so much, because I know that I really wouldn't have gotten in without you and the nice words you said about me during the interview and I'm so happy that you're willing to do this for me and that you're going to help me to become the best nurse there has ever been!"

“And you’re gonna be one of the best ones around. I just know that.”, he grinned. If he was planning to go back, it would be great to at least have his girlfriend around. “They would have crazy if they wouldn’t have taken you. When are you starting?”
Lana's smiled brightened even more, although she still believed that Zach saw her in a way more positive light than the rest of the world and never took his words for complete truth. "I hope that I won't disappoint anyone and that I can prove that this is really what I want and that I don't just do it for the doctor and nurse cliché." She winked and then she stared at the letter again to find the date she had been looking for. "I have a first meeting to get to know everyone and get my schedule and books next week."

“I am really glad that you feel that way, I wouldn’t ever want you to think that someone just hired you because you are the mayor’s daughter. In this case they really wouldn’t just hire someone because of that, they would be pretty much risk people’s life if they did that, if they hired someone because of that and not because they were good. Would be really risky” he was sure that she was hired because she was good, they wouldn’t risk people’s life, or at least he thought and hoped that they wouldn’t. “Yeah, I figured you would, why do you think that I said yes almost right away? Because I know you would do that” he let her dragged him through the streets and toward the bar. “I will stop before I get wasted though”
"I think that maybe that's partly why I wanted to become a nurse and taking care of people. I knew that they couldn't let me do that just because I was the mayor's daughter, because it would be too much of a risk. It's one of the few jobs where I can actually know for sure that they only hired me because they really think I will be good at this." Lana smiled and leaned back a little while she reread the letter for the third of fourth time, just to be sure that the words and phrases had not all of a sudden changed. "And I wasn't planning on drinking any alcohol." Lana raised her eyebrows a little. "The last few times I did that I lost half of my memory and I'm not planning on doing so again."

At the mention of Tatiana, Erik raised his brows slightly because he did not get along with the Supreme in any shape or form so it set him on the edge a little. “The tests will be worth it in the end I’m sure. I never had any desire to join the ‘family business’, shall we say?”
Lana grinned and she could barely hide the brightening smile that almost made her giggle out loud. "I can't really imagine you in a hospital either, but I think that's a good thing because although it's nice when there are a lot of doctors and nurses, it might make the hospital a little crowded if everyone wanted to work there."

“If it makes you happy…” And he could see that it did, but he still couldn’t help but feel a bit annoyed, Lana wasn’t his girlfriend any more but wasn’t as if he could shake the feelings off right away. “I’m happy for you, really.”
Lana squeezed her eyes a little and she wondered if Erik felt a little betrayed because she had not told him that she was going to do this, that she was planning to do this, that she was working on this. "I'm really happy and I'm even happier that Tatiana will be the one taking care of me and guiding me and teaching me, but I'm not really looking forward to all the tests that are probably waiting for me."

the words fall into the air in somewhat of a flutter. an entire stream of them. and vincent has to stop himself from visibly wincing at the ‘chirpy’ attitude. as it is, he manages to maintain something of a curiously interested look. possibly even pleased as that – good news – is broadcast in all of it’s detailed splendour. and true to form as he is, there’s a nod, a smile that graces the alpha’s lips –
“well, in that case, please allow me to be the first to congratulate you.”
if someone had to prepare themselves just to open a letter, he wonders what manner of fragile constitution she might be made of.
“a truly noble calling - to spend your life caring for others. healing the sick and tending the frail or wounded. there are few enough who consider others on a daily basis, let alone make a career out of it. – and how will you be celebrating this good news? surely something like that deserves a celebration, no?”
Lana's smiled brightened even more and she remembered how she had promised Zach that he could be the first, but she hoped he wouldn't mind that she had read this letter in the park and that someone had seen her this happy and had asked her what was going on. "Thank you so much!" She nodded happily and she felt the joy and happiness spreading and racing through her veins.
"And helping other people and trying to be there for them has just always been something I liked very much, but I never thought that I would make my job out of it, because I always thought that becoming a nurse was something I would never be able to do, but I met a few people who've encouraged me and I worked some days in the hospital to try it out and I know that this is my dream." She breathed barely in between her sentences and then she bit her lip, realizing that she was talking a little too much.
"I think I'm gonna call my boyfriend and I'm gonna give him the good news and I'm sure that we will go to have dinner somewhere and probably some wine or champagne or..." She realized that she was talking to someone she didn't really know and that she was not even of legal age yet to drink. "Maybe something without alcohol, because I'm not sure if my father would like it if I'd drink, not even when I have something to celebrate."

“I get that, I was like that when I tried out to be the coach at the school, I was scared that they wouldn’t want me as the coach. I over think a lot too, but what matters is that you got it! I am really happy for you” he also was feeling that way, because he still didn’t hear back from the police academy, but that night was all about her, and the fact she got her dream job. He didn’t want to steal her thunder, he wanted to focus on her good news. “Fine, if you insist, and since I know you will not give up until I say yes, then you can pay”
"All my life I didn't know whether people let me do something because I was my father's daughter or because I was actually good at what I'm doing, but this time I know that they wouldn't have hired me if I had not been good enough, if I had just been Lana Parker, the mayor's daughter and I think that makes me even more happy that I got in and that I did it all by myself, without any help." She bent her head and stared at her feet for a moment, knowing all too well that Tatiana had helped her at least a little, by not letting her drown completely during the interview. "I will totally insist and I will totally make sure that you don't even get the time to grab your wallet." She grabbed her friend's hand and pulled him with her.

“You’re just being modest there, you drew me and that was great.” Erik shrugged a shoulder then raised a brow slightly at her, typical Lana, always wanting to help out the little person but he couldn’t help but wonder was the change in career because of Zach? “Good. You’ll be a good nurse.”
Lana felt her cheeks blushing and she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear while biting her lip. "Well, I think that had more to do with my model than the actual talent, because really, all those people in my class were so much better than I was and I didn't really know what to do with this study anyway..." She paused for a moment and then she looked up at Erik. "I really hope that I'll be a good nurse, because I'm doing it to help people and to be there for them and to actually do something useful..."

“Come on… open it!” He was pretty sure what the results were. He didn’t doubt her for a moment and he knew the board would see her worth as well, or they would have been a bunch of idiots. He watched her open the envelope, take out the paper and waited with something like tension until she started to smile. “I knew t! Congratulations, honey! I knew you could do it!”
Lana wasn't sure if it was simply relief or if it was more than that, but she had the feeling that an enormous weight was lifted of her chest and she felt all her muscles tense and relax at the same time. "I'm gonna be a nurse! I'm really gonna be a nurse and helping people will no longer be something I just do, but will be my job! My job! My actual job!"

that sounded far too – chirpy – to be a notification of bad news. the letter clutched in the young womans hands was perhaps, not a notification of a recent demise ( unless said demise involved a person who had left a gratuitous inheritance in their will ), or something equally morbid - but he’s probably safe in the assumption that whatever it is, is… good news.
“now, that’s something i don’t see much of these days –”
a pause in his path as he turns his head slightly to look at the other, just after the exclamation…
“–the letter.”
he goes on to explain further.
“most communication these days seems to be done by, email or text or whatsapp… that, and the fact that it’s obviously bringing something rather pleasant. letters these days seem to be reserved for the more – unpleasant notifications… so… whatever it is, i’m glad you’re pleased.”
Lana tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and she bend her while she bit her lip to try to hide her smile a little. "And I actually thought that they would call me or send me an e-mail or something, but the hospital actually sent me a letter to tell me that I got the job and that I can start my study to become a nurse without having to leave Arcadia and I couldn't be happier." She shook her head and she folded the letter, carefully putting it away. "It seems a little unfashioned, but now I could open it on this bench in the park when I was as ready for it as possible, just in case this letter had been bad news."

“You find the good things and hold onto them,” He said, “The things in your life that make you happy, but also the things in the kids lives that keep them going - their parents, or their favorite tv show. Knowing those things helps, too, because when they have a bad day you can always talk about their favorite thing and it’ll cheer them up a little.”
Lana curled her lips up into a smile and she thought about her own bad days and how she had gotten through them. "I will keep that in mind if I manage to ever become a nurse at the hospital, because that sounds like something both I and the kids and people I might have to take care of could use some day."

“What did you get?” Cadence asked, having seen her friend from across the park she’d thought she could do with some of Lana’s wonderful smile. She settled down on the bench beside her, tilting her head to the other with a smile that reflected a mere fraction of whatever joy Lana was feeling at that moment. The girl had proven to be a lovely friend and she was pleased to see her so happy, and whatever it was she was glad that perhaps someone else was seeing the talented girls worth.
"I can start my official education to become a nurse and I don't have to leave Arcadia to do so!" Lana couldn't keep her voice in check and it echoed all around her. She still had a bright smile on her face and she took a few deep breaths while pinching her own arm to make sure she wouldn't stop believing that she had really gotten the part.

“I get it, and it’s normal to be nervous, we all get nervous when we will find out something that’s important to us. I am not even one bit surprised though, I knew you would get it” he was happy to see her happy, she deserved this, he wanted all his friends to just be happy and he didn’t want them to feel anything but happiness. He knew that it wasn’t possible, life had its up and down, but he would be there when the downs showed up. “Shouldn’t be the other way around? It’s on me”
"I hoped I would get it, but I really didn't dare to believe that I would get it, because I was simply too afraid that I would end up disappointed in the end, because someone changed his mind or because they didn't want to do it anymore or because of something else." Lana shrugged her shoulders, but she kept the smile on her face and she felt a certain kind of warmth inside of her. "Hey! I have gotten the job of my dreams and I'm really happy and I want to celebrate that with one of my best friends and that means that I'll pay!"

Erik sat next to her when she invited him to. “But, I thought you wanted to be an artist?” It wasn’t a bad thing, he was happy for her but he couldn’t help but wonder what made her change her mind so suddenly.
Lana curled her lips up into a smile and she realized how long ago it was that they had actually talked about the important things and the things that were keeping her up at night. "We both know that I was never as good at drawing as almost everyone at the art academy and I think that helping others is something I'm already doing a lot and I've actually tried volunteering in the hospital for a couple of months first, so I know that I really want this."

“Well perhaps, but I’m already here.” She paused to wipe down the coffee table and pick up her coffee mug. “On and off, but it’s been happening more recently.”
Lana kept silent for a moment and she bit her lip. "And what if you act like you have to throw up and have a fever and I will bring you home?" She cocked her head slightly. "Because it sounds like you could really use some time for yourself and some rest and some more sleep."

“Who told you that you would get it, huh?” he said with a small smile, he was happy for her, but definitely not surprise, when he said that to her, he truly meant it. He believe she would get it, he believed in her, and he was so happy for her, he could see how excited she was about it, and that was what she deserved, he didn’t have any doubt that she would do an amazing job. “Congratulations, Lana, I am so happy for you, I am sure that you will do a great job”
"Yes, I know, you told me already and basically a lot of people, but it's different to actually read it on paper and to have it official!" Lana didn't even try to hide her excitement and she read the letter again and again and again. She would become a nurse. She would really become a nurse. "Thank you so so much! I really can't wait to get starter and I know I'm far from there yet, but this is amazing news! We need to go celebrate it somewhere with ice cream and it will be all on me!"

Erik peered over her shoulder at what she had been shouting at, he heard her from the other side of the park and had thought she had been in danger or something, but upon seeing the words and feeling her excitement, he smiled. “I believe a congratulations is in order?” He had been quiet up to that point.
"Erik!" Lana turned around and the smile on her face brightened while she lifted the letter she had gotten up. "You kinda scared me, but I'm glad there is someone around to share my excitement with!" She shove to the side and petted the spot next to her. "And thanks! I'll become a nurse! A real nurse! And not just a volunteer!"
