“Only five? I’ve been a live for around 1200, I used to be human. Now I’m one of the Sidhe.”

“One--? That’s so many!” His eyes widened suddenly. “What’s a-- a sheay? What’s that?”

“Of course,” she said with a completely serious expression. “You’re precisely right. Cats are prettier, smarter, smell better. They’re just better period so I’m sure you’re better than any of those dogs anyways. I’ve never met a dog that I liked and I’ve been alive for a long time.”

The urge to purr or knead on something rose with the contentedness he felt. Knuckles clenching excitedly in the edge of his shirt, he pulled at it gently, the closest thing he could possibly get to kneading as a human. 

“Have you? I’ve only been alive for...for five years. Are you a human?”

“Cats are just better, period. They’re less needy and sneakier and smarter.”

“You think so?” Gasping, Kyu’s eyes lit up, and he clapped excitedly. “Everyone likes dogs better! They say dogs are cuddly-er. But we’re cuddly. I’m cuddly. But I don’t bark, and I don’t...thud around and smell bad. And I’m prettier than a dog, too.” The argument had gotten personal suddenly, but he couldn’t help it. It only showed how passionate he was about the topic.

“Revenge is a good dish, whatever temperature if you ask me,” she said with a wide grin. Some would disagree and say it needed to be cold - but revenge was revenge wasn’t it? Melody idly wondered if she could help feed this need for revenge and gently sent out some tendrils of inspiration. “It should be sneaky too though.”

“You can eat revenge?”

Then, “Oh! I am sneaky! Very sneaky! I’m much sneakier than a dog, of course. Kitties are always sneakier.”

“Oh well I guess that makes more sense. Something can be entertaining and gross after all.” She smoothed out her shirt as she often did, more out of habit than actual need. “It landed on your face?!” Her voice went up a key and end in a disgusted squeal. “Oh god that’s disgusting.”

“I know!” He squealed in return, something like the equivalent of bristling fur and dilated pupils ready to play. There was a bounce in his motions. “That’s why I’m going to get revenge!”

“You like spiders? But they’re so gross and they run at you. Though I guess if you turned it into a game, it wouldn’t be so bad. Although scaring them probably isn’t very nice to them.”

“Well...” He worried his bottom lip. “I don’t like them. But I like playing with them.” Then, if only his tail could be seen, for the way it puffed with an indirect irritation. “I don’t care if they don’t like it! I had one land on my face once and I didn’t like that so I’m gonna get revenge.”

“I haven’t crushed bugs in a long time, I usually make someone else do it for me. Spiders are too much for me to handle.”

“Spiders! Oh, I love spiders. They’ve got so many legs, and I can push them around but they’re not fast enough to get me.” He’d been shooed off several times from batting relentlessly at invading arachnids. “They just throw their arms up like they’re sad.”

Who was he? It was a complicated question, one she struggled hard to find an answer to - but then, after a moment of silence, she finally settled on the perfect explanation. “My boss,” Saoirse replied softly. “I do nothing without his say-so.” Even murder wasn’t out of the question. It had been that way from the beginning.

“Oh, is he like...your sunbae? I do whatever my sunbae and my hyung say to. Except stay at home. I’m no good at that.”
