Artistic vision statement
What is my design strength?
I like to take photos and collage. I learned this skills from Japanese flower arrangement which I learned since I was young.
Who do I want to become in 5years?
who work at on environment where I can work with confidence.
What do I want to do between now and then?
experience a lot of things in any ways, don't hesitate.
How will I do it?
go to places I haven't been, see and talk with people and make connections.
Until a year ago, it was very difficult for me to ask what I wanted to do in the future. When I first entered the school, I didn't know what I like or what I want to use as a job in the future. But now that I'm in my second year, I think I can analyse my own style and what makes me feel fun and rewarding as a designer. To the question’’Who do i want to become in 5 years?'', I answered '’who work at an environment where I can work with confidence'’. However, now that I review it, I think I should still be experiencing the process of building confidence in five years. I think it's very important for me and the people around me to work with confidence. But at the same time, I know that it's very difficult mentally to release a work with full satisfaction and confidence, especially as an artist. So, after five years of just starting work, I want to be in the process of struggling to create an environment where I can work with confidence.
Since I was in high school, I have wanted to design things that make people's daily lives a little more convenient. I found the world's first solid-state portable power stations, which were co-designed by Yves Behar and fuseproject and Yoshino Power interesting. It has a function that is 50% lighter and faster to charge than a regular portable charger. Not only that, but I also thought the great attraction of this product was its excellent design. They used matte and muted green and grey tones as the primary colours and differentiate Yoshino from the very bright, technical primary colours of the battery and power tool category. When I hear of a portable charger, the first thing I imagine is that it will be used at the time of disaster. I think the problem is that disaster goods that we don't usually use are basically kept out of reach of shelves or garages. The main reason for this is that most portable chargers are heavy in dark colour and lack stylish design. This Yoshino design and colour does not damage the atmosphere even in a daily-looking environment, and it can be charged regularly by keeping it close to each other, so I think it is easy to avoid a situation where there is no charging at the time of a disaster. Also, considering incorporating these disaster goods into our daily life, I want to create a product that combines speakers and portable chargers. By equipped with a charger for everyday products such as speakers, we can use it immediately at the time of a disaster. In this way, I think we can incorporate emergency preparations into our daily lives with the design. (465words)

We wrote down the points we felt in the class in the manifesto. I strongly agree with "must be more confident when presenting" and think that it is a manifesto that I need to focus on and improve most now. Presentation is an opportunity to tell the meaning of my works and what I really want to say as an artist when I show my design to the audience. This means that there is the potential to increase the value of the work by presentation, so I felt it was necessary to practise even if I wasn't confident, so I can convey the points of the work well without making the audience feel it.
Personally, I would like to add ”having interest in other's ideas and expanding my network” to my manifesto in conjunction with ”I must be open to sharing the ideas”. Until now, I have seen artists as an audience on the Internet rather than communicating with others in my art activities. Recently I had an opportunity to actually talk to the artist herself because of one small thing. At that time, I heard her own background and thoughts and learned that they were all connected to her work. She suffered from cancer a few years ago and lost her motivation as an artist for a while, but she finds that her affected X-ray is beautiful as a photograph itself and uses it to express the importance of loving herself through her work. And that talk deepened my understanding of her work more than before. This made me realise the importance of talking with other artists and exchanging ideas. In order to expand my thoughts and potential as an artist, I felt that I should expand my community by talking to other artists there without hesitation by actually going to the exhibitions.
I was particularly impressed by the week 9 Analysis Your Creative Practice activity. In this class, I think I was able to self-analyse what I am clearly interested in and how much I should achieve and improve. In the presentation, I saw other classmates' interests and works, and some of them reflected their interests in their current work, but it was also interesting to see people making works in completely opposite directions. Also, I thought it was frustrating that I couldn't actively participate in asking questions in my first year, so I tried to improve it this year. (412words)

I very much agree that Emotional Intelligence is more important than IQ.Because all five elements are essential for us to live with others in society. (self-awakeness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills) I was surprised that there is a test that determines whether I am capable of "emotional intelligence", but this is so important to humans. When I was in elementary and middle school, I didn't have Emotional Intelligence as a matter of course, so I would argue with my friends frequently and cause trouble to others. In other words, becoming an adult means learning Emotional Intelligence while experiencing many failures.
As a designer, I think self awareness is especially important. I think it's necessary for artists to believe in their own style, but at the same time, it's also important to look back at their work critically and discover new styles. In this Studio 3 class, I was able to think about my ideas over and over again and judge them critically because design required a lot of meaning. However in this class, I felt that we should have discussed more about how the store we chose could improve. I think I should do self-reflection for each activity so that I can be self aware of what I need to improve. (213 words)

Among the National Gallery's works, KoehSiaYoung's ‘’Here they come’’ left an impression on me. It is very impressive that I can feel the reality of their arrival from the appearance of people trying to run away and expressions of surprise. In particular, the two men in the middle tried to run away while protecting their products, so I felt their will to live desperately even though their lives were threatened. It seems unimaginable from Singapore, which is now peaceful and safe, but through this painting we can learn the true state of those days that I didn't know. I felt that I should know more about history and understand how its influence is on my life now.
I focused on several elements that create the impression of a national gallery, especially the design of the elevator and the wall with sponsors written on it. I thought it was interesting that the information was extremely divided only by a message on one side of the elevator and a picture on the other. And the second is a large piece that covers almost all of the walls of the sponsor. Each piece is designed at a random depth, creating a three-dimensional feel throughout. In particular, it is interesting that we can see different grains of wood in the parts where wood is used. Each design that makes up these galleries creates an impression of the audience's national gallery. (236 words)

We made a video about language barriers that we've actually felt. While I was writing scripts while discussing, I realised that accepting each person's language means understanding their cultures at the same time. And in order to express various differences, we used a sign of each nationality. Language barriers are not a social problem, but they have a big impact on communication. However, as an artist, it is very important to actively discuss with people from various countries and expand my world, and there are many perceptions and discoveries that I can make because of communication problems. After coming to this school, I learned a lot about cultures that I didn't know before.
And as an artist, I always thought that continuing to connect with society and reviewing my thoughts would lead to better effects of works. I think it would be ideal if I could realise social issues from the community that I couldn't know by myself, and take action as an artist. For example, Graphic designer Dena Nguyen argues through art that discrimination against Asian races has been created due to COVID-19. With this work as an opportunity, she received requests from the audience, "I want you to create other social problems!" Now she focuses on issues of race, ethnicity and gender. I also want to become an artist who can focus on other community issues, rather than asserting my own experiences and thoughts through my work. (239 words)
