"It was 3 or 4 in the morning. I was asleep, he came home drunk and he just started screaming. Before I knew it he was throwing me against the wall. Then my dog. After that it was my stuff being thrown outside. Finally it was me on the other side of the door with my dog and camera backpack. This was a week ago today. Since, I've found a place to stay and the bruises are starting to yellow around the edges. It's been a long week; I'm doing alright, but the worst part? This ordeal lasted nearly an hour in an apartment. We were surrounded by people and no one called the cops or came to check in. If there's anything I want people to take away from this it isn't pity for me, but the realization that this can happen to anyone. Be diligent neighbors. If you hear yelling or things being thrown, call someone. I got lucky in the grand scheme of things but women lose their lives like this. Even a knock on the door could save someone from harm."
