Manfred and Rook Shenanigans🍲💀

-Lucanis has been standing warily by as Rook and Manfred “help” with cooking

-Manfred, who is mesmerized by the curling coils of steam, is stirring a deliciously hearty pot of spinach orzo soup and splashing soup everywhere while Rook stands beside him to “offer guidance” (suggesting he stir at inconvenient times)

-By the time Emmrich walks into the kitchen, most of the hard work is already done and a beleaguered Lucanis is attempting to plate food.

-Rook and Manfred shared a conspiratorial wink. Rook picked up some left over celery greens to make a comically askew green mustache and says “the dead stir more easily than they used to” while Emmrich shoots them a look that could melt stone

-Manfred makes a sound they’ve never heard before he falls over hissing.

Poor Emmrich. I’ve had a headcanon that (especially with Rook’s Chaos Gremlin energy) Rook and Lucanis wind up being the sort of “fun aunt and uncle” to Manfred, “load him up with sugar and sent him home to dad”-style. That includes encouraging his little imagination, and letting him pretend to be a rad little Crow when Emmrich isn’t looking. Sorry, Professor. Your kid’s too cute, it was bound to happen 🤣♥️

This is apparently a hotter take than I thought but: hating on lawyers as a profession, calling them inherently dishonest etc. is politically reactionary. It discourages defendants from seeking legal counsel, puts forth the idea that it’s inherently suspicious to insist on seeing a lawyer before you answer police questioning (your constitutional right!) etc. which ultimately just benefits the state in making it easier for them to convict you. This is one of those things that “progressives” who were raised conservative often don’t realize is one of the parts of their parents’ worldview they should question more, but they should. Not only are lawyers not The Problem with “our system,” but having someone who is educated in the law whose job is to represent your interests in court — getting one regardless of your ability to pay, even! — is in fact one of the best parts of it.

There was this guy in the 1800s - I can't remember his name, but his name is recorded somewhere - who honestly argued that if given the choice between a beautiful woman and a heron, deep down in their most earnest true heart, every man would rather fuck the heron. And he got mad when people denied this, continuing to deny this what he had decided must be an universal truth, instead of praising him for being the only one who was brave enough to finally say it out loud. Like he really thought that every single person telling him "Jesse what the hell are you talking about" was not only denying him, but denying themselves their true desires and perpetuating the apparently massive cultural lie that herons aren't fuckable.

Anyway what I'm saying here is that every once in a while whenever you find yourself in a situation where nobody else is willing to agree with something that you consider the most obvious truth, take a moment to meditate on the possibility that perhaps they do mean what they say, and perhaps they are right. Maybe nobody else but you wants to fuck the heron.
