Microsoft Office, like many companies in recent months, has slyly turned on an “opt-out” feature that scrapes your Word and Excel documents to train its internal AI systems. This setting is turned on by default, and you have to manually uncheck a box in order to opt out.
If you are a writer who uses MS Word to write any proprietary content (blog posts, novels, or any work you intend to protect with copyright and/or sell), you’re going to want to turn this feature off immediately. How to Turn off Word’s AI Access To Your Content
I won’t beat around the bush. Microsoft Office doesn’t make it easy to opt out of this new AI privacy agreement, as the feature is hidden through a series of popup menus in your settings:On a Windows computer, follow these steps to turn off “Connected Experiences”:
File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Privacy Options > Privacy Settings > Optional Connected Experiences > Uncheck box: “Turn on optional connected experiences”

Totally agree, but also, let me dig. It's fun to raccoon goblin and disappear in a theory hole that is obviously way overtought and probably wrong.
Gonna say something a lot of you won't want to hear. In my opinion, sometimes (sometimes) trying to find depth where there isn't any is also a form of media illiteracy

This an interesting take, and one I agree with.
I keep seeing anti-Chiron sentiment in fic and like... to an extent I get it, in that Chiron is the only real "authority" at Camp Half-Blood and since his immortality was granted by Zeus in exchange for training humans, he becomes inextricably linked to the Olympians in everyone's mind.
But. Like. Chiron is also one of the few immortals we see consistently interacting with demigods at all. He's definitely the only one we see caring about those who aren't his own descendants. Edit: other than Hestia.
New Rome, which doesn't have Chiron, doesn't have any immortal guidance at all. The actual Camp Half-Blood equivalent still doesn't have adults protecting them either; its the teenagers running and bleeding for Camp Jupiter while their adults (the teenagers who survived this) retire early.
I'm not counting Lupa as "guidance"; it's implied she will literally eat a demigod who "fails".
At best they have the Lares as a symbol of adult authority, maybe, but they don't really feel like they hold the same role. They're more a talking symbol of tradition and heritage than a group of wise mentors.
And none of the gods are stepping up to rally or teach or protect their own kids in either Camp. Dionysus is there on punishment and even if he's shown to mourn his son, he spends most of his time lamenting his own fate and trying to piss the campers off, not teaching them or trying to help them survive.
The best Zeus could come up with was turning Thalia into a tree when she was already dying. Hermes seems more sympathetic in that we have more explicit confirmation that he wanted to help but was bound by ancient laws. But Luke still ended up fighting for his life while living as a runaway, and teaching Annabeth in turn.
If Chiron decided he was done with his job and with immortality (or if he tried to stick it to Zeus about the child neglect and got zapped as a result) no one's going to step up to replace him except maybe the older teenagers who already went through Camp Half-Blood. And since the Greeks don't have the Romans' legacy system, it literally would be just children raising children.
(I don't think it would be fair to lay the difference in Greek vs Roman survival rates at Chiron's feet either, but that's a different post.)
Chiron is just one man horse centaur, but for some of the kids like Annabeth, he's literally the only adult in their corner. For others, he's the only reason that they aren't 100% responsible for raising their siblings. He's the only adult or immortal we see in the main series who actually accompanies his teenage charges into battle, and he ends up badly injured as a result.
And, like I just don't see him as some sycophant who will do what the Gods tell him to keep his immortality either. Because honestly, I think his immortality has to be awful.
He's been training children for millennium, since at least the age of heroes And he's outlived all of them. He's been burying the gods' neglected children for literally thousands of years.
The home where he trained Achilles has long passed from mortal memory, even as Achilles himself died terrible in a war sparked by the Gods. In another few thousand years, probably Camp Half-Blood will be gone as well. But Chiron will still be watching children weave burial shrouds. Even the ones who survive to adulthood will quickly be long gone from any memory but his.
At some point it would seem easier to either walk off and accept your own death rather than deal with that, or else to harden your heart completely, to give tutelage but not compassion. To count the demigods as already lost in the grand era of time, and your training as merely an unwelcome task to fill the quickly passing years. But we don't see Chiron do that. Despite everything, he still cares. Despite everything, he still tries to keep his children alive.

My favorite thing about fanfic Zuko is that he just does not have a reference point for sexism. Like:
Some person: isn’t that women’s work?
Zuko, thinking of Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee: women’s work? You mean homicide?

It's also inconsistent! Like they have compound word but not always. Like girlfriend and girl friend. That's... pick a lane. Either you do compound or you don't.
one thing i hate about english is your open compound words. what do you mean it's a light switch and not a lightswitch or a water bottle instead of a waterbottle. get real

Having aesthetic attraction to a character without a trace of any romantic or sexual feelings attached is so strange
It's like there's a guy (gn) on my screen. I like how he looks and the way he moves. I don't want to have sex with him, I don't imagine myself dating him or something of that sort. There's no physical reaction at all.
But there's this ephemeral urge to, I don't know, simultaneously gnaw on him like a bone, study him under a microscope, encase him in chrome and put in my living room, and watch him do the same gesture that ticked me on a loop for approximately three million times?
Does that make sense??

Also, you can use a tower computer longer, because you can just upgrade as you need and it only cost you the part. Need more ram? Just stick more in it. More data storage? Stick one more drive in. A well build tower computer can keep for a long while. Hell, there is a tower that is my age, that is still functionning. We can't run cyberpunk on it, but we can run farcry 3.
Apple propaganda notwithstanding, the reason tower PCs are big isn’t because they’re outdated. The reason tower PCs are so bulky is because they’re designed to be user serviceable. The case has lots of open space so your big, meaty hands can easily access all of the components, and everything is secured with friction-fit tabs and standard machine screws to minimise the need for specialised tools. A properly laid out tower PC is fully serviceable with a single Phillips-head screwdriver and no greater manual skill than your average Lego playset – heck, for some of the more modern case layouts you don’t even need the screwdriver, unless you’re performing major surgery like a full motherboard replacement.
Like, think about who benefits from convincing you that a fully modular computing device that can be serviced and repaired with your bare hands and minimal technical skill is unfashionable.

Normally don't really bother interactibg with politics, but that whole "white culture" always struck me as deeply american. Pretty hard to have a conversation on the subject online too. Because... please do tell an italian and a french they have the same culture. Hell. Tell a southern french they are the same culture than a parisian. I will watch with popcorn.
The whole... white, black, latinx culture feel very... reductiviste? When speaking of people/culture. Sure, they are commonalities. But it still different culture. Pretty sure Peruvian folk and mexican folk don't have same culture? Or said South african folk and Congo folk.
I just feel like the diversity and richness of cultural experience is lost in the sound, even tough said sound was started to talk/celebrate culture diversity.
(Not sure the idea is clear. And maybe it's an optimist point of view) (On that I'm returning in my shell)
There's a phenomenon in left-wing circles where initially reasonable statements and concepts get repeated ad nauseum until they not only lose their meaning but transform into deeply bigoted ideas.
The idea "there is no single white culture," is true because white is a concept created to describe the powerful position in Western societies. There are many different cultures, who's members are often white. But this idea became "white people have no culture" which is just not true, deeply dehumanizing, and harmful, especially to people who look white but experience marginalization because of their culture.
Another example might be cultural appropriation, which perhaps should be understood as a misrepresentation or exploitation of the cultural practices of another, especially where the person exploiting does so for personal gain, without acknowledgment. But now, people have basically transformed this into "when somebody does something from a culture they weren't raised in" or "when a particular race or ethnicity behaves in a way that's different from how they normally do" which promotes racial and cultural stereotypes and attempts to control the behaviors of people based on their race, ethnicity, and culture.
