What kind of artist are you?
I make art to make statements but also to make shit less ugly. I'm about functional pieces

Coffee Pour Over Volcano with Columbian coffee cherries
This piece is an homage and visual reminder of how far our coffee has to travel and where it comes from and how it's processed.
The outside is textured like a burlap bag, and then there are red coffee cherries that turn into brown roasted coffee seeds. The inside is purposely unglazed so that the coffee filter can stick to the rough surface.

The vase is based off my stoma scars and is glazed in a yellow glaze called "butter" on the outside with Oregon red slip on the stomas. This was a discarded green ware I carved into to mimic the exact pattern of my scars.
I have had more than 5 surgeries to remove 4 tumors and do a tracheostomy, port insert surgery, emergency port removal total largectomy, and surgery for surgery complications.
The outside butter represents the "yellow" of my skin and how I have endured medical racism because I'm Asian American Disapora. And the violence I've endured as an Asian American Disapora from housing discrimination that caused this.
The inside of the vase is glazed with "floating blue" glaze to specifically talk about the grief that bubbles up inside me and peeks through.
This piece is about moving the rage and grief I feel about the pesticide exposure that caused my breathing issues and anaphalatic shock and the need of a breathing stoma, into art and out of my body.

I never thought nostalgia would land me thinking about going to college in 2008 and the Kappa Sigma semi formal. I'm in the black dress and heels

So I'm also a ceramist but I haven't thrown on a wheel or worked in clay for almost 20 years now. This incredible studio @saltandstone in Seattle is letting me do an arts project. I'm building hand muscle back as I'm getting back into it so here is some hand building work of mine.
Those are Braille Scrabble tiles and a hashi holder ie a chopstick rest that is a seagull with a bagel in his mouth

I'm posting my art process photos partly to preserve them if I change my mind about stuff or my computer or phone crashes/etc. But also because I think it's important that people see that even concept art is art. This is my concept art for my bowls I'm making
