BDRRM-- BE DISASTER READY!
Year 2019, 15th of December, we, a student from LTS-Arc1 of UST NSTP, were given a chance to be enlightened and be a part of Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management. On this day, I asked permission from the barangay officials of Brgy. Teresita, Quezon city to share their program on how to be ready on the day of risk, hazard, and disaster.

Barangay Terisita usually encounters typhoon mostly twice in a year and the strong winds and rain from habagat. During this times, the whole Barangay stays in full alert in case of worse scenarios. Typically, this causes falling branches, flood, and of course, this also produces traffic. The authorities do the roaming to give alert to the citizens and activates their public alarm system if in need of evacuation.
During these times of calamity, Mayon-Dapitan street is the one that suffers from flood although the water quickly drops. Due to the flood, the informal settlers or the homeless ones are the ones who are vulnerable to this situation as they have no places to stay. Luckily, people who needs to be evacuated are brought to the barangay court as a location of for evacuation.

In terms of earthquakes, they mentioned that their safezone is located in front of the Metrobank which is in front of the Barangay Hall and inside the park. This is discussed during earthquake drills. This is because it is far from tall infrastructure places and the least safe is the one in front of the SMDC Sun Residences condominium because of its shocking height. Everyone are advice to follow this even though the buildings are safe as it all underwent from checking with authorities.

The officials indicated that their vulnerability in rising from the suffering from the calamity is having the lack of funds and awareness of the people. Though, they are currently working on this and are inviting everyone to participate in awareness.
The barangay has their plans in terms of calamities. They have public alarm systems to be turned on if a worse scenario happened. They also have prepared safety precautions and ambulances on standby. These are all lead by the barangay officials especially the mga kagawad.
