"Because Tweets Happen" Woodblock on Rice Paper 8.5"x11.25"
I was in Nashville last night for Neil Gaiman's final US stop on his final US book-signing tour. To all who have asked: he was wonderful, you really should have been there. Bela Fleck showed up and played a banjo accompaniment to his new story, "Fortunately, The Milk." It was spectacular. And he read us the thundery confrontation from his new book, "The Ocean at the End of the Lane," accompanied by real thunder as Mother Nature herself obviously approved of the nights festivities and themes.
I also had the chance to give Mr. Gaiman the first finished print of this, which was inspired by his twitter feed. He made me not feel like an idiot for it not being as amazing as a model replica of a Cyberman head, which he was given the night before (Also: Why didn't I think of making one of those first?).
To Neil: Thank you for being charming and funny and gracious, even when you must be tired and your hand likely hurts from writing the same ten letters over and over and over and over and over again tens of thousands of times in a few weeks. It is also extra inspiring when meeting one of your favorite authors to know that, not only is he a remarkable story-teller, but he is also genuinely a nice fellow. We, your fans, are grateful.

Started a new blog for my more nerd/math related projects. You can check it out if you would like. For the curious, when I left at about the 2.5 hour mark, it was only off by six degrees.
Newton’s Heating/Cooling Law applied to a kiln-firing, so impatient art students can go get some sleep instead of waiting nine and a half hours for the kiln to reach a temperature they can look at their ware. —- They didn’t really appreciate me defiling their studio with math. However, I jumped around like a giddy school-girl while I compared the actual cooling with the model.

Working on new cups in ceramics. Throwing them normally, then reversing the wheel and warping them. Then back to normal spin, recentering the tops, trimming, and making a nice rim.

This is the first thing I have ever reblogged to this tumblr, but it's bloody brilliant.

Why a proposed book-burning party was a Very Good Thing Indeed.

Quick shot from the wedding earlier today while it is still today (10 minutes to spare!). I'll be processing images over the next couple of days. The couple is hammering shut a box they will open in ten years which contains . . . They don't know! Other than a bottle of wine and letters from their parents and grandparents. And . . . maybe . . . other things? I guess they will find out in ten years.

So, I've finally gotten around to setting up my photo studio to take some real shots of my ceramic work. I'll be shooting all of my finished work over the holiday weekend and updating this over the next couple of weeks with the images as I process them. Next weekend, I've also got a wedding to shoot; a few of those images will likely show up as well.
I'm considering selling some of the ceramics pieces on Etsy. Those of you with experience using it: Thoughts?

New project I started today. It's going to be a mixed media sculpture that has to be done pretty quick, so it will be interesting to see how it turns out.
