I know I’m gonna sound like a jerk to you people, but I love lurking on subreddits like Meditation and Paganism because you see all sorts of weirdos posting the most insane crap. I’m in a sub for people who think runes are cool and there’s a guy who just posted about using runes to cure his son’s autism. I’m giggling at these idiots cautioning him like “Bro be careful man, you never know what can happen.” It’s a goddamn alphabet. You’re no more likely to cast a spell with runes than with Japanese hiragana.

I saw Mike Matei get accused of "elitism" and "gatekeeping" because he said that if you take advantage of a "rewind" function in modern ports of retro games then it means you did not actually legitimately beat the game. Anyway this was simply an opinion he shared on a stream of his. I have no idea how this prevents anybody from enjoying retro games in their own way, but for some reason this counts as "gatekeeping," even though he's actually correct. He doesn't say anything like "you're a fake gamer for using a rewind function." He just says "You didn't actually beat the game." Apparently that struck a nerve with some people. I don't even know what to say, man.

I don't think anyone has much of a right to whine about "gatekeeping" unless they're literally being barred from a convention or something by some guy insisting that they pass a test first. Is that what's going on? Are you literally being kept from enjoying things by literal gatekeepers? Or are you just crying because someone online has a different opinion than you? I have a feeling it's the second thing.
I think society will go on just fine if all "gatekeeping" is is just some guys on the internet making jokes about million-dollar franchises. I don't see what all the whining is about.

Within Thee Lies The Pagan Past
Take with thee always thine ancient tome And study oft its sacred secrets. Never neglect to learn thy lore, But one finds true wisdom within oneself.
Dim is the light as the sun dies, And as the dusk usurps the day. Bright is the black of the youthful night, As the shadows dance under the moon’s shine.
As the eyes unopen, they turn inward, Seeking solace somewhere else, From corporeal matter to æthereal mind, And to the æternal past from the mortal present.
Reaching through reality’s rampart, Passing beyond the wall of the present, The spirit looks into the land of legends, Into the house of history.
Answer the call of thine ancestors, Go and greet the gods, Meet the makers of myth, And dwell in the realm of the undying.
Within thee lies the pagan past, The bygone world of the pure unbaptized, Buried deep in thy heathen bones, Forever unconquered by Christendom’s corruption.
