Guess who’s back

We’re finally home and we’re going back to school. I really enjoyed my stay in Croatia and I’m going to miss it. I really enjoyed the food and city and the place where i did my internship was really great. Neven and Tomislav we’re really nice people that helped us a lot. This was my last blog post

It came to an end

This was our last day in Zadar, our adventure sadly came to an end. This last week was an amazing week, i’ve completed my assignment that i recieved from Neven. My game works fine and i’ve made some AI which was hard to learn how to make but i’m really proud of it. Today we got our certificate and in the evening we went to a burger restaurant with the teachers.

On Tuesday  we ate some rice with vegetables and for the rest of the week we mostly ate leftovers.

It’s really sad that we already have to leave Zadar, it was such an amazing experience and opportunity. I loved everything about this city and I will never forget the time I was here.

Tired but still motivated

Here’s a little update on how it’s going. Friday I worked more on my game, I’m finally starting to understand Unreal Engine 4. At the moment all you can do in my game is attack jump and walk but it doesn’t have an objective yet but I still have 5 more days to finish it. Yesterday we had a day full of relaxing because we were tired from working a whole week in the evening we ate some hamburgers in a restaurant, they were so amazingly good.

Today me and Rutger went for a ‘little’ walk, we walked about 10 Kilometers, we walked a bit in the park here in Zadar and also went to explore the city outside the old town. 

This evening we didn’t really feel like cooking so we got some pizza.

Back at it again

This Sunday we were supposed to go on a ferry to the other island but we postponed that to this weekend. Instead of that we just walked a bit around town and watched the sunset and in the evening we played some basketball.

Monday we got our new assignment, making a game, and we also had to update some pc’s with Tomislav. In the evening we ate some rice with chicken but we made too much rice so the next day we also ate rice but with hamburgers.

Today we worked a little bit more at our game, it’s going to be a 2D platformer and also went to a place where you can run a simulation on how to drive a boat.

and for dinner we ate some potatoes with schnitzels.

All is fine and dandy

Our first workweek is done so here’s a little update on how we’re doing here in Zadar.

Thing are going great here. I like the place where i’m doing my internship, at the moment me and Bram need to find software on how to get a conference call with 25 people in it, we haven’t found it yet but next week we’re gonna start on making a game. During lunch we also have a beautiful view on the ocean. 

Wednesday we didn’t do much in the evening, everybody was a little bit tired so we just stayed at the apartment and went to sleep early. Yesterday it was different me, Rutger and Bram made some rice with chicken and egg while the other apartment went out to eat some pizza. 

Today we’re planning on going to a local restaurant and eat there and after that going out in the city.

Finally made it into university

Yesterday was our first day at the University. We met the head of the IT-department and our internship mentor, Neven Pintaric, he’s a very friendly and relaxed person. I’m in a team together with Bram, we’ll be working with Neven the first and the last week of our internship. The second week we’ll be working with Tomislav, Rutger and Michiel are working with him at the moment. 

In the evening we went to a game of basketball (which is the national sport in Croatia), Zadar won, after that we went back to our apartment and ate some spaghetti.

Today we got our first assignment, the assignment was to be able to stream lessons on Facebook and Youtube. It wasn’t too hard, we actually made it in 1 day while we we’re given till the end of the week.

Trip to Zadar

Yesterday we left Zaventem at 10:15. We took a plane to Vienna and then to Zagreb, after that we flew to Split. Then we drove for an hour from Split to Zadar.

After we settled a bit in our apartments we went to a pizzeria and ate some pizza’s and pasta. I’m living at an apartment together with Bram and Rutger.  

Today we went to the national park Krka where we walked a bit and did some sightseeing.

We also socialized a bit with the locals over there.

We also made some wraps for dinner today, it was a little bit hard to manage to do it for the first time but after all it all went pretty well.

Tomorrow will be our first day doing our internship and I’m really looking forward to be working here for 3 weeks.

Some information about Zadar

Zadar is a very old city, in fact it’s about 3000 years old. The city is very touristic city in the summer but in every other season of the year you hardly can find any tourists. The reason why it’s such a popular location for tourists is because Zadar has a lot to offer on cultural level. For example you have the Sea Organ

and the famous Saint Donatus church 

I hope to see a lot of the culture in Zadar when i’m there.

My company

The company i’ll be doing my internship at is the University of Zadar. The university counts about 6000 students and about 600 employees. It was established on June 14 1396, which makes it one of the oldest universities in Europe. I’m really looking forward to doing my internship here.

My first post

Hi, I’m Dirk and this February I’ll be doing an internship at the University of Zadar for 3 weeks. I’m really looking forward to this because it’s a one time opportunity and i get to spend 3 weeks alone with my friends in Zadar. Zadar has a very rich history because it belonged to Italy for a long time and there has been a lot of war. The city is also very proud of their cuisine which is the Dalmatian cuisine, the  Dalmatian cuisine is considered one of the healthiest cuisines in the world. Basketball is one of the most played sports in Croatia. The team of Zadar is called KK Zadar and their stadium is the Kresimir Cosic Sports Hall. I would love to go see a match when i’m there.
