In the late 80s, Shinichi Kameoka was a mangaka for Monthly Shonen Magazine and Big Comic Spirits. His comics were influenced by Japanese yankī subculture, telling the stories of gangsters, baseball players, and underground boxers.
When serialization for these comics ended, he applied to Square as a graphics artist for Final Fantasy IV, but was relegated to debugging. However, his big breakthrough came in the 90s when Seiken Densetsu 2 (Secret of Mana) began development, in which he was responsible for the iconic designs of the protagonists, as well as character pixel art.
From yankī manga, to Secret and Legend of Mana, to Magical Vacation/Starsign, to Egglia... His art style's come a long way hasn't it?
You can learn more about Kameoka's history and legendary career on Kovopedia!

New images have been archived on Kovopedia!
I've been putting this off for around two years, but I finally dug through Kameoka's Twitter and gathered a TON of Magical Vacation/Starsign media, mainly concept art and other illustrations!
I also retrieved a few unused designs from Legend of Mana that were repurposed for Magical Vacation!
You can find these images on Magical Vacation's and Starsign's gallery pages!

Trivia - Mokka's Mechanisms
Here are some neat details about Mokka in Magical Starsign! Though as you'd expect, they're only present in Japanese.
In frozen Pescato, when you find his head on Mick's furnace, you can examine it to see that it says:
"Will-o'-Wisp Academy Class B, Mokka".
But in Japanese, it says:
"魔法学校 ウィル・オ・ウィスプ ロークラスB カフェラテ" (Magic School Will-o'-Wisp Low Class B Caffè Latte)
Also, his battery has some notable differences between versions. First of all, the "battery pack" item is called "ロボットバッテリー" (robot battery) in Japanese, befitting of his species. The item's English description reads:
"No robot will run without this powerful little battery."
But in Japanese, it's:
"ロボットの動力になるバッテリー。 こうばしいニオイがする。" (A battery that powers robots. It has a fragrant scent.)
I won't go any further, because it would delve into the later parts of the game and possibly spoil details about Mokka's backstory, as well as his history with a certain civilization. But if you know, you know. My condolences.

Update: All of these images and their descriptions (plus translations!) are now here on Kovopedia!
I also just realized that the image below, which was among the Friends' Works submissions, was illustrated by Tetsuya Nomura!! So yeah, that's pretty cool ;]
Magical Vacation - Let's Illustrate!
Some time after Magical Vacation released in Japan, Brownie Brown opened a fanart submission page called "Let's Illustrate" (レッツイラスト) on their MV website. Submissions were categorized by "General Submission Works" (一般応募作品) and "Friends' Works" (おともだち作品).
Sadly, several images weren't preserved on the WayBack Machine, so we salvaged what we could and stored them in a Drive folder!

STORY
"Today is the day of the Seaside School, which the students of Magic Academy Will-o'-Wisp have been looking forward to. Miss Madeleine and her students boarded the magic bus and headed off to their destination, Valencia Beach.
There were eerie rumors about Valencia Beach. They say every year, students who went to camp at Valencia Beach would go missing immediately after the Seaside School. Upon arriving at Valencia Beach, the students have a fun time exploring a cave and having a campfire.
When suddenly! Out of nowhere, mysterious creatures called enigmas showed up and began attacking the students! One by one, the students are whisked away to somewhere else by the enigmas! Their chaperone, Miss Madeleine, was taken away by the enigmas on purpose to save her students.
It seems that the enigmas arrived in this world from an alternate world (plane). How come the enigmas are targeting the Magic Academy's students? With various mysteries in mind, the adventure to reunite your classmates begins…

Trivia - Persimmon facts
When you meet Persimmon in Salamander Cave for the first time, his introduction will be different depending on the language you're playing in!
In the English localization, he says:
Lord Persimmon You there! You think me but a slimeful, slithery salamander of ill intelligence, do you not? Heed my words: you are far from the truth. I am Lord Persimmon, pirate dread! I am Master Chard's...er...most resplendent right-hand man to his deputy assistant's secretary's... Never mind. My duties would only befuddle your feeble, infantile intellects. Perhaps you have heard of me. My name is whispered among thieves and assassins in the galaxy's most bawdy, off-color alleys. They call me...the Embellisher! I round up noisome wizards and drag them by their wicked collars back to Assam. Now that you have beheld the knee-clattering, awe-inspiring evil that is Lord Persimmon himself, hand over the wizards!
But in Japanese, we get to know a little more about him. Note, his JPN name is サンギーヌ Sanguine.
★Hey, you there. You think I'm just like those slimy salamanders, don't you? ★For shame! I'm Master Rubu Sorakyu [Chard], the Great Pirate! ★...'s number one subordinate... ★...'s subordinate's subordinate's subordinate... ★But a tad more distinguished than the lower ranks! 127-year-old Master Bloody Sanguine! ★It's my job to round up magicians and haul them back to Assam. ★So you! Hand over the magicians!
His full name, in Japan at least, is Bloody Sanguine, and his age is 127! Why do you suppose this was changed so heavily in English?

Huge shoutout to Karik once again for their awesome data-mining skills! This time, they ripped the entire Japanese script of Magical Starsign, and I've been translating a bunch of lines to see how things may have been altered in the English localization!
If any of you have questions about the Japanese script, or are curious about a particular line/scene, send a request in the Ask Box and I'll do my best to answer it in detail!

Here it is after all this time: Floor 50. Despite some unalignments, I think this is the best map I've ever done. Thank you to everyone who's waited.
Unfortunately, I was unable to catch Dinrendu and/or Guardian in the boss space, but when I come across them I will update the map.
Love y'all.

Two years ago today, the administrators of Magical Vacation Wiki on Fandom founded Kovopedia -- the ever-developing English wiki for Magical Vacation and Magical Starsign!!
We seriously can't believe it's already been two whole years since the wiki was first established. With all the advancements we've made, from joining the Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance to bringing in new and old fans of MV/MS, we thank all of you for sticking around to see all of it happen!
