Forgot to mention, part 2 of the Kameoka abridged biography will delayed until next week -- the semester's wrapping up and I've been insanely busy. But rest assured, this video will be absolute cinema.

Part 1/2 of my rambling about Kameoka is out now!
This video covers his early life (1960s) to Legend of Mana (1999). Next week’s episode will cover Brownie Brown, Magical Vacation, and everything up to present time!

Happy Birthday, Shinichi Kameoka!!
This year, he shared some drawings he made back in the 60s, when he was around 4 years old. He's been a passionate illustrator from the very beginning!
Left: The Shinkansen and Marunouchi metro lines in Tokyo.
Right: Characters from the Ultraman series, including Ultraman, Alien Baltan, and Dada.

Since Kovopedia began covering the EGGLIA series, we've been archiving a lot of artwork from official websites and Brownies' social media.
One of our current projects is Dawne's EGGLIA Spirit Record, a collection of stories focusing on the game's multitude of spirits. We intend to translate each story on Kovo, so in the meantime, take a look at some official illustrations we preserved!

We might be getting some info on Brownies' upcoming project, which we've nicknamed "New Legend"!
Shinichi Kameoka posted on Twitter today, stating that he's recovering from a cold. He also added this image with the caption:
こんなお家に住めるゲームを遊んでみたいとは思わないかい? Wouldn't you like to play a game where you could live in a house like this?
Tumblr media
Taking a closer look, this image doesn't appear to be AI-generated, since the smaller details aren't awkwardly meshed together (though I could be completely wrong).
In any case, we're 90% sure this is a sneak peek of New Legend. And if any updates come out, I'll be the first to share it with you all ;]

On Brownie Brown's old website, br2.co.jp, they hosted a webpage called Purapura No Plan (ぷらぷらのーぷらん). Created by Nobuyuki Inoue and managed by Akiyuki Suzuki, it served as a sort of diary for the staff between 2004 and 2007, with 65 entries in total.
This series is a real symbol of company's golden years, as it was updated during the releases of Sword of Mana, Magical Starsign, Mother 3, and finally Heroes of Mana!
A lot of the photos are lost, but what has been preserved is strangely nostalgic (...even though I was only a year old when this webpage first started).

Did you know that when designing Magical Vacation's protagonists, Mash and Mallow, Shinichi Kameoka took inspiration from the 1971 film Melody?
Mash is based off Daniel Latimer, played by Mark Lester, while Mallow is based off Melody Perkins, played by Tracy Hyde!

Note
Do you have voice headcanons for the magical Starsign cast?
For the main party, I'd definitely pick:
Galette/Hero = chaos, Xenosaga Episode I (Derek Stephen Prince)
Financier/Heroine = Juna Crawford, Trails of Cold Steel IV (Erika Harlacher)
Lassi = Rorona Frixell, Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland (Julie Maddalena)
Mokka = Ziggy, Xenosaga Episode I (Richard Epcar)
Chai = Vivi Ortinier, World of Final Fantasy (Kath Soucie)
Pico = Roxas, Kingdom Hearts II (Jesse McCarntey)
Sorbet = Rikku, Final Fantasy X (Tara Strong)

It's amazing this blog is so recent, Magical Starsign is one of those root Hyperfixes. Like I love how in depth this whole project goes and not only that easy access info of Magical Vacation! Even fun stuff I never knew about Magical Starsign
Thank you so much!
Honestly, I’m just happy that the work surrounding Kovopedia (side projects, translations, media archival, etc) have helped expand the community to this degree! Being able to share rare MVMS content with other fans is one of my favorite things about this project, and I’m so glad people appreciate the progress our community has made over the last 2 years!
Anything to give this series more mainstream attention, especially Magical Vacation :]

In the late 80s, Shinichi Kameoka was a mangaka for Monthly Shonen Magazine and Big Comic Spirits. His comics were influenced by Japanese yankī subculture, telling the stories of gangsters, baseball players, and underground boxers.
When serialization for these comics ended, he applied to Square as a graphics artist for Final Fantasy IV, but was relegated to debugging. However, his big breakthrough came in the 90s when Seiken Densetsu 2 (Secret of Mana) began development, in which he was responsible for the iconic designs of the protagonists, as well as character pixel art.
From yankī manga, to Secret and Legend of Mana, to Magical Vacation/Starsign, to Egglia... His art style's come a long way hasn't it?
