Okay but the smart thing for Sarutobi to do when faced with the dysfunction of Team 7 would have been to stick Yamato in the lineup from the very beginning. 

Just consider it. Yamato is a reminder to Kakashi that he can indeed form bonds and not just rot in the past. (Also, like hell Yamato would stand for that “everyone I’ve ever cared about is dead” BS). He’s got the power to contain the Kyuubi, and Naruto proved during Mizuki’s attack that he could draw on Kurama’s chakra the second things got sketchy, so it seems like a reasonable thing on Sarutobi’s part to want someone close by who could hold him back if he ever did pull on too much of it. And, given Yamato’s past with Orochimaru, he seems like the perfect person to dissuade Sasuke from looking to Orochimaru for power. Even if he couldn’t, having two jounin close by who are some of the strongest in Konoha seems like a decent deterrent to Orochimaru and Itachi both, going on what Konoha knew of Itachi’s plans at the time. Sakura’s pretty steady in the beginning, with no big problems that time, a good teacher, and extended exposure to Sasuke’s personality can’t fix, but just having Yamato around to keep things running a little more smoothly seems like it would help her immensely, give her time and space to grow, and it would make Kakashi a better teacher for her too. 

Just. Yamato wrangling Team 7, Kakashi included. Yamato coming in early and fixing things like the levelheaded Sane Man he is. That is all.

I just recently finished Itachi’s first light novel and god I am so angry at the adults in this series they did so wrong by him, and by Shisui. I always knew on some level that the pressure put on this child was so freaking insane, but reading it from Itachi’s pov? The absolute despair radiating from thoughts he was made to believe he could never share? Absolutely horrifyingly heartbreaking. 

Itachi Uchiha is a goddamn tragedy.
