My "Other Best Male Friend" (hereafter "OBMF") gave me the nickname of "Contessa." I have something in common with one countess -- the Countess of Nerole. She and I both favor the scent of orange blossoms. At one masquerade my OBMF threw, I went as the Comtesse des Feuilles (she was better known as Jane Austen's cousin). Finally, in a novel I wrote, which has yet to be published, the protagonist is also a countess. Hence, my choice of the name, "Knitting Countess." I have been knitting since I was 20, and I am even designing. Don't look for my designs in INTERWEAVE just yet, however.

Last September, one Friday after working at my church's food pantry, a little black cat who had been hanging around the church campus made an attempt to follow me home. I had talked with her and given her a few treats when I saw her; however, she had seemed fairly content where she was. When she seemed insistent, however, I told her, "If you are still here on Sunday" -- that is generally when I have a ride to church -- " I will take you home.
The next day, I bought a carrier, kitty litter, litter box, cat food, and a few cat toys. (I already had a few bowls that could serve.) On Sunday, she was still there! I noticed previously that her left ear had been clipped. Pennsylvania has a "TNR" program. That is "Trap-Neuter-Release." The males get their right ear clipped; the females, their left ears. She cooperatively got into her carrier and we rode home. She has shown no inclination to go outside again. I named her "Shulah." (Song of Songs 1:5: "I am black but beautiful, O ye daughters of Jerusalem.")
As soon as possible, I took her to the closest veterinarian. She got her vaccinations and tests ... and a clean bill of health! She was judged as being "just" one year old.
While I cannot say that she is a "perfect fit" for me, we are trying to work things out. She can be very naughty at times. She has bitten through my very expensive premium yarn more than once, so I need to be extra vigilant. She often bites me! Then she goes into the "naughty cat room"! Still, we will see how things go.

I love Marie Kondo! When I moved from Birmingham, AL, to Philadelphia, PA, I became more than "just a minimalist." I became -- as I described -- "Marie Kondo on steroids!" There was only one "Oops!" That was an out-of-print knitting book. However, I was able to order it on the second-hand market.

Realize that I haven't posted for quite a while. This is as good a time as any. A few days ago, I finished this very large shawl that I began last September 2024 in honour of the lunar eclipse that was in October 2024, rather gruesomely named "Blood Moon"! Where I now live, it did not show itself in particular as spectacularly as, for instance, Texas, or other parts of the central United States. In fact, there was really no sign of an eclipse at all -- just a beautiful full moon. Still this is my tribute to the event, event if it is somewhat late.

I actually visited this particular state for the first time a few months back! I now live in Pennsylvania.
FUN FACT: If you live in Pennsylvania, it is illegal to bring "spiritous elixirs" from Delaware into Pennsylvania! Yes, you can bring them in from anywhere else, but not Delaware! GO FIGURE!
hold on a fucking second. delaware is a state?? i thought it was a river? or is the river more important than the state? why don't i know this? (i should mention i don't like in america, i'm just confused)
there is delaware (state) and delaware (river)
both are equally strange
the state is a tiny little cryptid thing
the rive is a monster that spans new york, pennsylvania, new jersey and delaware. also washington crossed it once and that was like kinda a big deal i guess. like crossing the rubicon in rome.
the state tries to me more important with its “im the first state!!!” bs (seriously its even on the fucking license plates) but we all know. its the river.

Evidently, this must have been one of the [many] books I had to -- regretfully -- cull from my collection. Thank you, Free Library of Philadelphia as well as all libraries everywhere, that continue to carry knitting books! Otherwise, I might not have been able to find this pattern again! (Madeline Weston's "Classic British Knits" was one I had to re-purchase -- second hand -- and I am so THANKFUL that it was available!) So, a cautionary note to all who are "de-accessioning" their private libraries: FIRST: See if the books you must leave behind are replaceable; SECOND: If your space is limited (like mine), find out if they are available in electronic form; THREE: BE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU WILL NOT NEED ANY OF THE PATTERNS IN THE BOOKS YOU GET RID OF!

Please come take a look at my works on my Instagram (robiambros) or my Facebook Page (AmbrosCrochet); it might not seem like it, but it makes the biggest difference to me when people leave me a like/follow there as well :)

Mrs Margaret Roberts, Llanuwchllyn, looking fantastic at 101 years old and knitting socks in the Bala area, c.1939. The picture shows her knitting needles and the hook she used to hold the wool on her lap.
