3anbar 7 عنبر
3anbar 7 عنبر; music you listen to when life isn’t okay, and you’re okay with that. First time I listened to this band, I thought “I want to hang out with these guys for a jam.” And I’m not a musician. This is what this band is about; let’s just sit together and have some fun with music, life’s a bit tough, so let’s sing and make tunes to feel good for a split second. Anbar7 is purely anonymous, the only way you can reach this band is through soundcloud, so no, no listing of band members will be available on this feature. But here’s a tiny bit about them: It was started as a concept, to be a band with no fixed band members with changeable contributors to the tracks that are produced at a hang out place, making Saudi underground music about things you hear into daily conversations. The band’s soundcloud account is: https://soundcloud.com/3anbar7 And here are three tracks by them:
-The first track features a Hadith “يا ابن آدم لا تخافن من ذي سلطان ما دام سلطاني باقيا وسلطاني لا ينفذ أبداً،”, guitar, oud, and a singer starting the song with “If I tell this story, I might be screwed.”: خروف العيد -Trust me on this when I say, listen to this track while driving with the windows open, or when you’re free for the day so you’re on the bed with no purpose for the next hour or two, or it’s 1.38 am and you’re happy that you’re alive: السعاده
-And: يشتغل

Hasan Hujairi
Hello, Kmanjah’s back. The first post after a long break is about the moon magician, Hasan Hujairi. He is a composer, sound artist, and a researcher. He is from both Bahrain and Seoul, which are both apparent in his music. Hasan is,in the words of another musician, Ahmed Zainal “way ahead of his time”, which I somehow agree with. He is ahead of his time In the way he brings the universe forward to the listener; puts it in electronic beats, experiments with senses and you get a track with a bonus track-art with it for each angle of you to be tastefully pleased. When asked why he makes the music he makes, he said to me: I create music just because I have a strong impulse to create music. The music I make is one possible way for me to connect different thoughts, interests, concerns, and concepts together. Mind you I don't really know how the listener would perceive the music I release, and I don't know whether any of those parameters through which I operate even come across in the end. Perhaps this is why I don't feel that it's important to explain what message I am trying to deliver through my music. Maybe I'm just trying to deliver music as how it happens at the time in which I make it. Hasan has a number of productions, which are available for streaming and downloading on his website. A few of them are: Manama and Other Spices (2009) , a series of Sonicles (a word which combines ‘sounds’ and ‘monicles’): sonicles 1, 2, and 3 . And he frequently releases tracks on soundcloud. Official website: http://www.hasanhujairi.com/ Social-media accounts: Souncloud: https://soundcloud.com/hasanhujairi/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/hujairi Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hasan.hujairi/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/hasanhujairiofficial Here are five tracks by him: -The first one is one of the first tracks I’ve heard by him, the musician gives you instructions: Stand on the rooftop of any music college in any university around the world. Listen to the sounds coming out of the practice rooms' windows and your surrounding environment until you recognize any music floating in the air.: Delicate Plunderphonics for a Rooftop -The second is completely different, but it welcomes you in as much as his other tracks do anyway: Revisitations: An Improvisation on the Oud -To the Korean author, Yi Sang with an attached poem: Laughing About What We Lost / 우리가 잃어버린 것들에 대한 조소(嘲笑) -Listed in Mada Masr’s best of 2015, here is Orpheum
-And last but not least, a recording of a performance given at Mullae Art Space, consisting of a reading of texts and an oud performance; “the source of the texts used is a collection of short stories written by Bahraini writer Ahmed Hujairi. The texts are extractions from a short story series entitled “Biscuits”, all of which describe a metaphorical “Wall” that demonstrates many contradictory and oftentimes deplorable characteristics.” 신문 / newspaper

Suggestion: Omar Offendum. (a Syrian hiphop artist who's been involved in creating several critically acclaimed songs about the popular democratic uprisings throughout the Middle East & North Africa)
Thank you so much for the suggestion. But the guy is already so famous he has a wiki page about him and this page is mostly about people who aren’t that famous. Thank you though, and keep the suggestions coming!

Gamal El Bagoury
A raggae musician who also mixes spiritual tunes, this is how I can define Gamal El Bagoury whose nickname is "Geem". Gamal is an Egyptian all the way artist, as in he is a Fine Arts student, musician, sound eng, and a graphic designer. I first came across his work when I searched "Arabic mix" and got the most beautiful track that mixes old Arabic songs. So basically, he's not your typical Raggae artist, but the love he puts into his music sure makes him so in the best way possible. Gamal only has one album named Rawhanyat which is a whole album of spiritual, sufi music. Other than that, the tracks shared here are singles posted on his soundcloud account.
Social-media accounts: Souncloud: https://soundcloud.com/gamal-elbagoury
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mrgeem https://www.facebook.com/geemartworks
Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/gamalelbagoury
Deviantart: http://geem-grfx.deviantart.com/
Here are four tracks by him:
-The first is a mix of poetry and tunes. The mix of Salah Jaheen's Rubayiat, Ziad Sahab's track and Ahmed Abdul Majeed's mawwal in the background: Agabi - عجبي
-From his album, Rawhanyat, featuring AlShaikh Nasr AlDeen Tubar: صنع من؟ - Son' Man?
-A single: 5 Thawany - 5 Seconds
-And last but not least, the gem that introduced me to him, a remix of old Arabic songs: نوستالجيا - Nostalgia

Album: Sawtuha
With a girl on of the crowd and a girl behind the wheels of the motorcycle on the way to “حرية/horreya” as in “freedom” this is how the album introduces itself. Sawtuha, which is the Arabic word for Her voice is a collaboration between nine female singers and musicians to translate freedom but this time with the female voice we don’t instantly think of when we think of the word freedom, especially when it’s spoken in Arabic in the Arab world. The album was released on January, 2014 by Jakarta Records. And it is a musical rebellion against the gender inequality, all the bloody politics, corruption and injustice the artists faced growing up and even more recently, during the Arab Spring. Sawtuha has 12 tracks including 4 bonus ones and a collaboration with Rasha Rizk. The nine female musicians that made this gem that has rap, pop and instrumental tunes happen:
From Tunis: -Nawel Ben Kraiem -Badiaa Bouhrizi -Medusa -Houwaida From Libya: -Nada From Egypt: -Donia Massoud -Maryam Saleh -Youssra El Hawary From Syria: -Rasha Rizk +the produces/mixers Three of my favourites from the album: 2-Youssra El Hawary - Ghareeb An El Medina (Brenk Remix) 5-Badiaa Bouhrizi - Mana'a (Blundetto Remix) 8-Rasha Rizk - Elegie (Shuko Production)

Mohammed Haddad
When you think of a father and son duo in the MENA region you think Assi and Ziad AlRahbani or Mureed and Tamim Barghouthi. Well, this musician adds two names to the list. Mohammed Haddad, the son of the poet Qassim Haddad is a Bahraini composer, music critic and a leading composer in the film scores of Bahraini films. He has two albums, one created for the movie A Bahraini Tale (2006) and the other Tarafa (2011), I received Trafa from a cousin of his once and it had his signature and a note that said “Hayat.. Thank you for listening to Hadeel.. Mohammed Haddad, 2011″ and it’s one of my most favourite gifts. How Mohammed takes the Bahraini essence and puts it in piano, violin and many more instruments is something you can’t figure out just like the ones who know his father cannot figure out how he holds up the universe and writes it down. To say the least, Mohammed is one of the best artists this country has brought, and I’m so happy to be featuring him on this page.
Website/social-media accounts: Official website: http://www.mohammedhaddad.com/ Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/mohammedhaddad Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mohammedhaddadofficial Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/mhaddadmusic
Tracks by him:
-From his album Trafa, which is about the poet Trafah Ibn Al-‘abd who in his life, went through many hardships: ...Kindred - ذوي القربى
-Feeding The Mouse
-A soundtrack of a movie that takes place in bahrain in the sixties. It depicts the trials of a belly dancer, who is rejected by society and explores her life from the perspective of a fisherman.: The Belly Dancer (Mraimy)
-From his first album the tracks of the movie A Bahraini Tale: Love Theme

Faia Younan
With no strings attached to any labels, Faia, a Swedish-Syrian singer is our second artist from Aleppo, Syria. She is the first artist who funded her debut track through the Middle Eastern digital platform Zoomaal. About her music she says: “I want to sing my passion for my beliefs and values, for my people. I want to create songs that reflect the genuine truth and beauty of our societies,” Personally, I thought she might not need the feature since she’s already famous with over 50k followers on instagram, but her voice floats on the same magical sky that our beloved Rasha Rizik, Omaima Khalil, and Rima Khashish’s voices float on. So I couldn’t avoid her.

To Our Countries لبلادي

Shams Asma
“I began recording different sounds – the sounds of machines, daily movements, silence, musical instruments, electronic sounds, etc, with an aim to criticize the transformation of lifestyles and the phenomenon of construction in Palestinian cities, focusing on the questions that arise around the audio-visual transformation of ugly, yet beautiful, independent yet occupied cities, as well as other contradictions.“ -via Arabamerica.com This is how Asma Ghanem, the producer of the Arabic experimental music project Shams Asma talks about the beginning of her music production. Asma was born in Syria, but is now based in Ramallah, Palestine where she creates experimental music that you could listen to while turning into some cloud, creature, laying on the bed or just driving on some road. Website/social-media account(s): Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/asma-ghanem
Tracks by her:
- Ft.Mahmoud Darwish's "أنا يوسف يا أبي": They don't like me, Oh father لا يحبونني يا أبي’
-In a collaboration with 'VADAV': Fading Faces
-Les Trompettes De Maracuja - أبواق الماراكوجا

Torabyeh
They introduce themselves as a band that “calls for liberation of the Arab people and the oppressed from all religions in the Arab world and the world, is against religious extremism and the rule of the capital as well as against colonialism and imperialism.” Torabyeh is a political hip hop band based in Amman, Jordan. (Here’s a thing about my taste, I rarely listen to rap, and for me to find Arabic rap that is actually witty and politically humorous and mixed with good music? Yeah, this is why they are the first rap band on this page. And they are worth all the praise and recognition they would get.)
Website/social-media accounts: Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/torabyeh Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/torabyeh/ Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/torabyeh Tumblr: http://torabyeh.tumblr.com/
Tracks by them:
- "My status is deformed because of my art My poetry for my people is meaningless My departure from earth is only a matter of time The good I do on earth is not to gain blessings from the heavens I just want a place where I can secure my son's rights I am not a killer but I can commit a crime to protect my rights “: Ghorbah ft.Husam Abed
youtube
-Personal favourite: بعد الربيع - After the Spring
-I’ll just say this; this song’s chorus is Sayed Makawi’s ‘The Earth Talks In Arabic’ and the rest is rap: Civilisation - حضارة
-” و بطل في أسير مضرب عن الأكل, لأن السجن اصلن سكر و صار محل ضد الجهل.” ”And there are no more prisoners going on hunger strikes, because the prison closed down and it turned to a place that fights ignorance.”: عالم مثالي - Idealistic World
