Grand Finale
The grand finale of the public Relations Masters of Arts degree program at Full Sail University has finally arrived. The Final Thesis Project Course has been quite intense and a rewarding experience. In this class, we learn about resume writing, cover letters, and pitches for potential employers. We also made improvements to the website to ensure we are using categories and tags in each post and using SEO (search engine optimization) to make the content on the site search friendly. My expectations for the course were as follow, "This will be the last course, and we will convey a capstone project that will show all of what we have learned throughout the previous 12 months. We will create a website and presentation outlining key concepts of the Mastery journey. This class will help formulate my career in Public Relations". My expectations for the class from the mastery course and what we learned thus far were identical to my predictions for the class. In the class this month we worked on our websites to make it professional and polish for potential visitors and clients. We also drafted and finalized the Capstone Thesis paper using projects and written material we created throughout the program. An exciting project we worked on was the Pecha Kucha presentation. A Pecha Kucha is a presentation using images to tell a compelling story within twenty seconds.
The class taught me how to make my website appealing using web tools to attract clients to the internet site; I also learn the importance of research and web building. I felt this class taught me a lot of great information and tools that I would utilize in my career. I would like to thank the faculty and students at Full Sail University personally; my degree would not be possible without their help.
Here is to new beginnings and a rewarding trip to Paris, France!
Thank you for reading!

Online Media Room
As I complete my last assignment for the Online Media Room course, I realized that I’m now officially drawing closer to graduating from Full Sail University. My expectations from the mastery timeline at the beginning of the year for this course was, “This course will show us the various media room components, we will use online media to develop and manage the different media assets by integrating third party media outlets like Facebook, Twitter, and others.” The hypothetical guess for the course was completing inaccurate. During the course, we learn how to compare other company’s media rooms and analyze what works and what didn’t work for the pressrooms.
One of my favorite assignments was the week 1 and week 2-discussion board where we dissected two companies websites and compare each side by side. These particular assignments help me gain a better understanding of what type of content appeals to the audience and the tone the website carries.
Throughout each assignment each week we added content to our newly created capstone project website. Throughout the weeks we used peer reviews to critique the content and look of the site. I found this to be very helpful. The reviews from my classmates gave me a better understanding of what visitors think when they are on the website. I also like that we can use the feedback to create a better website that is attractive to the audience.
The Online Media Room class was a lot of fun; I feel that this course is crucial in my continuous development as a Public Relations professional.  I’m a lot more analytical to the websites that I visit and play close attention to the content and visual appearance of the site. I plan to continue to add what I learn from each course into my career. I’m feeling nervous as I approach the last and final class of the upcoming month.
Thanks for Reading!

Reputation Management Strategies
This month’s course Reputation Management Strategies was indeed tough but fill with value materials. The class has provided me with personal self-discovery on my writing. I uncover what my strengths and weaknesses were and how I should move forward in improving my skills. I also learned to be patient, work under immense pressure, and to gather information that will be useful to my career and coursework goals.
My original expectations for the Reputations Management Strategies class was, “This course will help us determine the social impacts that are occurring and how to respond to them. Sheltering the company’s personal reputations is key to maintaining their character”. I anticipated learning how to handle a crisis by creating talking points for the media. During a crisis being able to talk to the media is a valuable skillset that will be respected as Public Relations professional.
My favorite assignment from this class was Week 3 assignment creating a Crisis Communication Plan. The assignment was my favorite because I was able to experience what it would be like to create a Crisis Communication Plan for a company or individual. The crisis plan designed helps to devour a crisis from emerging or from becoming worse. I also appreciated learning Constituent Groups in Week 1 assignment. Categorizing various people who have an impact on the client’s reputation forms the Constituent Groups. Knowing the Constituent Group for the client will be helpful to keep the image clear of the client as Public Relations professional. In Week 2 we learned how important it is to maintain an excellent online reputation. My client is a retail company and if a customer experienced poor customer service that experience will most likely end up online websites like Yelp, Facebook, Google Reviews, among many other sites.
Many of the assignment were a bit of a time constraint for me, especially trying to balance work and school. I found it most difficult finding time to create a response post for my classmates. The satisfying aspect was learning how to handle a crisis and how to react to the reputation that is built online. The tools I learned, I will continue to carry through the next course and my career.

Events Marketing and Production
The mastery journey for Events Marketing and Production has been a fun learning experience. The class has provided me with personal self-discovery on my strengths and weaknesses learned throughout the course. I learned to be patient, work under immense pressure, and to collect information to create an impactful event. I was very excited about this class because I want to learn the proper procedures for creating an event that would draw massive crowd interest.
The course provided meaningful information and assignments to match. I’ve learned sufficient information to create events, host webinars, and promote content. My first expectations for this class were:
This course will help me build excitement and generate a thrill for event planning and strategic media. This class I’m looking forward to the most because I love event planning, and this will help me sharpen up my skills in this department.
My expectations for the course were accurate and the reading materials and assignments counterpart with the prediction. During the duration of the class, we hosted a live webinar; we planned a hypothetical event that would be propose to our clients. It was enjoyable picking out venues, researching budgets, and evaluating strategies.
The webinar assignment was a bit nerve wrecking, and I dreaded completing the assignment. I get nervous speaking in public and hate the sound of my voice because occasionally I have difficulties pronouncing particular words due to my occasional accent. With the strenuous work schedule adhere, I found myself struggling to keep myself motivated to complete the assignments. I felt a few assignments lacked a bit of direction such as the promote the event with Smore. The rewarding piece was learning to use different websites such as Proposify to create event proposals, and I will be using this software on future projects. The tools I learned, I will continue to carry through the next course and my career.

Media Relations
During the mastery journey for Media Relations, I learned the importance of creating impactful publications. The publications are important because it forms the foundation for the readers of what to expect from the type of work we produce.  When the audience reads the contents, it is important that the work is relatable and captures the essence of the message we are trying to convey.
My first expectations for the Media Relations course was the following, “This course will show us the importance of journalism and public relations. We will understand the importance of social and media platforms. This course will help me develop an ability to communicate with supporters”. My expectations for the course were accurate. A few assignments in the course required us to create content to distribute to the media.
My favorite assignment was creating a press release for my client and disturbing letters to various journalist to publish our stories in their magazines, blogs, newspaper or other media outlets. I enjoyed this assignment because it provided a great perspective and “real world” tool as to what we could expect when reaching out to the media. The challenge I primarily faced was creating a media kit for my client. The assignment required us to put together a media kit which included a press release, fact sheet and a video creating awareness for the organization. The challenging part of the assignment was creating the video and editing the content for journalistic distribution. I found myself struggling to create a video that would capture the attention of the audience without it being boring. Overall the class met my expectations and provided challenges that I thought I might not have been able to overcome. The lessons I learned in the course I would utilize in the next class and my public relations career.

Market and Consumer Research Analysis
June 21, 2016
The mastery journey for Market and Consumer Research Analysis has been tough. The class has provided me with personal self-discovery on my strengths and weaknesses. I learned to be patient, work under immense pressure, and to gather information that will be useful to my career and coursework goals.
The coursework load provided a significant amount of information and assignments to match. I’ve learned an ample amount of strategies and new techniques to collect data. My first expectations for this class were:
This course will show us how to analyze consumer and market information. The course will help us create public relations campaigns that will target audiences based on the research findings. I will utilize this class as a way to learn about marketing which is a skill required in most PR positions. My expectations for the course were accurate and the reading materials and assignments counterpart with the prediction.
During the inception of the class, we worked with clients and conducted field research. The data collection was used to create a continuing social media campaign that will help promote the company’s brand. Many of the assignment were a time constraint for me, especially trying to balance work and school. I found it most difficult finding time to create a response post for my classmates. The satisfying aspect was learning how to integrate infographics and incorporating them into the research project. The tools I learned, I will continue to carry through the next course and my career.

Social Media Metrics and ROI
This month has been quite intense and now month 5 class, Social Media Metrics and ROI is over. Social Media Metrics and ROI was very informative and challenging course for me. In this class, we took a deeper look into using Google Analytics, SEO, and ROI; these tools helps us analyze metrics and techniques to apply to our present and future clients. I’m a bit nervous to start our capstone project because I feel a little doubtful on my project. The Week 3 assignment was where we had to evaluate our client’s social media, community and brand involvement from every angle. I honestly felt like this particular assignment should’ve been the last week assignment or been a part another class because it felt out of place. The directions were not clear which cause the frustration on my end. Nonetheless, I attempted to answer the question asked in the assignment. I chose to work with a local business who is looking to broaden the awareness of the brand and location to increase foot traffic to help increase revenue. Taking a look back on what I thought this class would be during Month’s One assignment I felt I was spot-on. My expectation for this class was “In this course we’ll learn about social media metrics in which tracks the audience's behavior and attitude. It will show us how to take these parameters and make career plans according to the new information. It will help me with creating new data towards my field”. This class taught us how to take metrics and translate them and apply them to my website, clients and future customers. Aside from the small bump in the road, I felt like this class taught me a lot of great information and tools that I would be able to utilize in the next class and ongoing.
Thanks for Reading! -Kirsy V

As I complete my last assignment for Innovative Public Relations Tools and Resources course, I realized that I can now take a deep breath and exhale from such a busy month. My expectations from the Mastery timeline at the beginning of the month for this course was, “This class will help us develop an understanding of various multimedia platforms. The course will touch on topics such as how to use ROI and learn different techniques on how to target our audience. I have little knowledge of using multimedia platforms and web coding”.  Comparing the analysis of the course work we completed; my statement was wrong. In the Innovative Public Relations Tools and Resources course we concentrated on using social media as a tool to promote our brand. The video’s main effort was to be able to reach out to our “targeted” audience and show through a visual component what our brand story is and how we can help them through our brand.
Throughout each assignment, we utilized a Post Planner called Hootsuite. Hootsuite is a great way to schedule posts on personal and public social media platforms. I’ve grown to love using it as a quick and organized way to post my work to other social media outlets like Twitter. The Innovative Public Relations Tools and Resources course has allowed me to learn new and advanced skills to apply to my career as a public relations professional. I was able to discover great applications such as Remember the Milk and Slide Share. This course has provided me with opportunities to advance my networking skills and widely promote my brand on various platforms like Twitter, Google Plus, Facebook, and LinkedIn. I discovered new social media instruments like creating a list on Twitter. I plan to continue to add what I learn from each course I learn throughout my Mastery journey and slowly apply them and build a rapport for myself that would make my brand a household name.
 Thanks for reading!

Journey through Legal Aspects of Media
The mastery journey towards a public relations degree has been a treacherous journey to fulfill. I’ve discovered my personal strengths and weaknesses throughout the mastery program.   I also learned to be patient, work under immense pressure, and to gather information that will be useful to my career and coursework goals.
According to the first assignment brainstorming and researching from the first course, Mastery my expectation for Legal Aspects of Media were, “This course will help us classify legal issues within Public Relations that are associated with digital and mobile technologies. It will help me gain an understanding of laws about media and the first amendment”. The course has explored many legal terms and laws that associate with the media. The course was an eye opener to media works that are used in the communication field such as copyright, defaming someone, and providing accurate information to fair trade commission. One of my favorite assignments was also the one I struggled with the most; it was where we discussed defamation through a keynote presentation. The defamation presentation assignment was my favorite because it challenged me. The assignment taught me a hands-on approach to peeling the layers of the media and looking at the case in two different perspectives rather than just one. I spent days avoiding this assignment because of the heavy workload involved. I truly pay the price of waiting to do the assignment; I ended breaking night to complete it and making it just in time to catch a flight to Florida. The assignment gave me the opportunity to learn how to use Keynote, because of this I will never go back to using PowerPoint!
Learning about copyright infringement laws will be beneficial in my communications career because the field involves various media work. The media publications will utilize different resources for which we should abide and follow the proper regulations for copyrighting. I enjoyed the practice-run for properly filling out a copyright registration form. The registration form will be handy when we want to protect our work from being infringed by others such as competitors.
All of the topics covered in the course will be beneficial to my career in Public Relations. The knowledge gained throughout the past month has given me a wider insight to learn about the legality that would be involved in the communication field. The course has prepared me to keep an eye out for certain laws that go behind the work before we publish any material. The freedom of speech lesson taught me that the work published by someone else must be credited properly, such as crediting a photo.
The course has met my expectation, and I would take the knowledge I gained in this course and applied it to my career in public relations. It’s important to review all legal aspects of media to be able to advise your client and have their best interest in their brand. As a public relations professional and study, I will apply the lessons I learned to my work and future assignments.
 Thank You,
Kirsy

Writing for Interactive Media
Writing for interactive media is the fourth class out of the remaining nine classes to earn a Mastery in Public Relations. The course focuses on the writing aspect of interactive media such as learning how to provide and create newsworthy content. The course concentrates on the story-telling portion of interactive media, stories that turn us into journalist as were producing content to communicate the story to the readers.
During the first class Mastery: Personal Development and Leadership, we were asked to analyze each class category in our Master’s program and write about our expectations. My expectations for the class was this, “This course will help us develop a persuasive voice through creative writing. It will contribute to providing a visual understanding to my work as well as develop my craft for being a better storyteller through my writing”.
My expectations for the course was very simple, and I expected to learn various writing methods to develop more into a public relations master. The course has taught me to distribute content in the most accessible way. The course has taught me to create press releases, how-to articles, subject profiles, and report on live events. The writing techniques in this course have prepared me for work communicated to the public media.
The type of writing I would love to spend more time on is persuasive writing. Learning persuasive writing is essential to the public relations field. As we move further through the Mastery program, I will probably experience writing more public releases where I have to convince the reader to either attend the event, buy the product or support a cause. The persuasive technique was the only writing style I wish incorporated a bit more. Overall I enjoyed the class and learned a lot about my writing along the way; I learned that I need to be more careful with my grammar as well as how I cite my work.
Thank you for such an excellent class!
