Baek Saheon hates his new roomate, Kim Soleum. At the same time, he starts chatting with a new acquaintance, Grape.

So in this ep Bronze and Braun each present KSE with a way to escape the current situation...

Bronze through accepting this reality as his own, and Braun through prison break...

Will Sol finally pick Braun's suggestion, or will he find a third path again?

(Doesn't seem like he can pick Bronze's way, does it? Which is sad, bc Bronze was really good this ep. Sharing his own story instead of outright interrogating KSE. I loved how KSE thought of Bronze as an irl acquaintance rather than a character, too... It could only happen bc Bronze was not a named character I think.)

(A twitter friend pointed out: Bronze thinks of Hyunmoo 1 team's waiting room as his home. This means he already invited KSE into his home...)

To be honest I was expecting the worst with the glass prison, so it feels more humane than I feared. I suppose Choi wouldn't have let Sol in otherwise.

Honestly I feel bad for Choi. I'm sure he thought that Sol would confess everything and get out within a day, and then they'd all be Hyunmoo 1 team for real. He thought this was just a brief visit to the vet on the way to adopting Solnyan...

I'm excited for Bronze to interrogate Soleum tomorrow! Bronze has been kept in the dark for many, many chapters, but he was also the one who got close to realizing 'the truth' during mermaid arc. Maybe he'll be the first one to know where Soleum came from!

In DoD, it was a Ryu who found out first about the protagonist's secret. Could history repeat itself?

On Choi

Choi's actions at the end of this ep were valid as hell.

He just learned that the spy he's been keeping an eye on had been spying under duress. So he heroically freed him from said duress.

What's the natural next step?

Of course, you have to interrogate the spy!

During and after the interrogation he'll try his best to convince him to come to their side. Grape will be treated with tender care, I have no doubt. But interrogation has to be done.

On BSH

Okay I should have known better than to whine prematurely about BSH exiting early.

Bc I loved his pov in the beginning!

What I love about BSH this arc : you hear that he has this terrible secret, right, and you expect the protagonist to save him. Which does happen.

But KSE gave BSH something even greater.

He gave BSH the experience of saving another person.

When would a guy like BSH have ever done that!

Indeed, this ep tells us that he felt an emotion that he had never felt before.

This led him to go even further - he left that origami ship for KSE as a gift. Honestly I was worried that this would be another scheme so it was nice to get a confirmation that it was well meant.

BSH now doesn't have to solely focus on his own survival. He has room to consider other things, such as kindness.

About Choi's weapon

(slightly edited on 2025/4/21 for clarification)

If you're reading along with MTL, Agent Choi's weapon gets translated to anything but a sword, it seems like. I've seen it translated to club, arrow, sledgehammer, cornstalk(??), smallpox(?!) etc...

Anyway, it's a sword. If you read Choi wielding/throwing any weapon, it's a sword.

Specifically it's a sword called Jakdu(작두).

In modern days it's only used by traditional shamans, who ritualistically step on jakdu blade.

You almost never see it used as an actual weapon, even in fiction. Probably part of why mtl gets confused by it.

The jakdu used during mermaid graveyard arc is also said to have bells attached.

Choi uses special Jakdus on the centipede monster. They're for fighting evil beings, so they didn't come out when he was fighting Jin Nasol etc.

The special jakdu is as twice as big & has ornate bells and decorative brush.

So we've seen two types of Jakdu so far.

Okay so this was a cool episode and Choi was sexier than ever. It was so cathartic seeing Bronze finally do something he's good at, and get to rescue Soleum.

With all that said, as a BSH fan - I kinda want to hit BSH in the back.

Why didn't you stick with Sol and get some more spotlight, you stupid! This was your arc! I know it seems dangerous and you felt like you needed to run, but if you stuck near Sol the bureau would have protected you!

Yeah yeah it's totally in character for him to run, it's even smart of him to so so. But man. It's gonna be ages till we get to see BSH again...

BSH...

His life was shaken from the core, now he'd never see his sister again, he doesn't ever have to return to this town, if he was aiming for the wish ticket to find a way to survive the curse it's been taken care of for him...

What if when Sol contacts him next time to see if he's gathered some info, BSH says "I don't work there anymore"?!

Okay that probably won't happen. But man... I miss BSH already...

Bronze always wanted to keep KSE safe, but never managed it.

In Sekwang highschool, in Looky Mart, from the mermaid contamination...

KSE always refused to be saved by him

(esp. in Looky Mart...)

But this time... KSE asked him for help. He asked him to come back for him.

And Bronze did!

He came just at the right time! Just when KSE needed him!

Agent Bronze! You finally did it!

What an ep! (I feel like I say this every ep, but... What an ep!)

I loved that KSE realized BSH may be selfish but doesn't take pleasure in the pain of others, and decides to take a chance on him possibly having some basic human compassion.

And it worked...

BSH, that sociopath BSH, decides to hear him out despite having to risk his own safety...

In the original wiki, both in the mountain lodge and in here, BSH would have survived by making others die in his place.

But KSE keeps showing him that you don't have to kill others to survive. There can be a way for everyone to survive together...

Me (a shipper) : Maybe this will be the arc where BSH grows closer to KSE? Wait no, it's BSH, I have to have lowest expectations. Maybe BSH will be BSH but at least KSE will feel better after saving him? That's enough to hope for, right?

Anyway wow BSH everyone (shippers) was rooting for you to heal KSE's heart

But as always... When not kept in check... BSH immediately shows why he has to be kept in check...

KSE took the train that BSH took to go home!

BSH was standing with the townsfolk! Wearing the medical eyepatch not his for-work eyepatch He was wearing the feather!

This is Baek Saheon's hometown!!!

Choi said to find an unhappy looking person and ask to spend a night at their home, and BSH was looking unhappy!

- BSH is always courteous in front of strangers & at work, this really is his home if he's being openly unhappy...

- the implication that BSH is one of the more trustworthy people in town...?! Maybe even the only one who can be trusted??

- Did Choi meet Saheon???

- Bronze and KSE are gonna be spending a night at Saheon's house, right?!

Also Choi said to not to eat any soup, said that he won't say the reason.

The obvious conclusion is that it's soup made from human meat and bones, right? From human sacrifice or something?

What does it mean that Baek Saheon grew up here... That he studied hard to come to Seoul and enter a large company.. that he's always desperate for survival yet willingly enters life-threatening situations for the wish ticket...

Will we get to find out about Baek Saheon's backstory! His wish! His secrets!

You know I was mourning the loss of the hot spring episode, but after this ep, I think we might get it after all.

Bc Soleum has to get the document within a month, right? And it was once said that the Bureau keeps important documents at Gangwondo.

So I think he might ask to go to the Seoraksan hot spring as an excuse to get to the Bureau's Gangwondo office.

Choi might realize this but also he might cooperate.

So I think Soleum might get to visit the hot spring after all.

It'll just be under the most stressful circumstances humanly possible....

He put on a noble/sincere personality for Choi in the manhole market. Now in front of Kwak he did the opposite.

Something like this was bound to happen one day.
