Festival Alert!!

If anyone is free the weekend of April 26-28th, my film is showing at the Blackbird Film Festival in Cortland, NY!! It's being shown on Saturday the 27th at 10:30AM (info here: https://www.blackbirdfilmfest.com/officialselections2019)

Thank you all for being patient as we do this mass festival hunt. From now until May there's only 4 more I'm waiting on for responses, so starting in June, I'll make the link public so y'all can share and watch to your heart's content!

My film was shown in Glendale last month at the Glendale International Film Festival and has been recognized as a semi-finalist for 3 other festivals since its completion!  Today, I discovered that the Hollywood Screenings Film Festival was the third one to add to this list.

I’ve been festival-hunting for months since the completion of my film and I’m happy to report that it’s been recognized by two festivals this week!

“Bottled Up” is a semi-finalist for the Los Angeles CineFest and is officially selected to participate in the Glendale International Film Festival!  As a semi-finalist, the film has a chance of making it to be a finalist and premiere on the screen in LA, but for now I can still parade the laurel with pride!

The Glendale festival will take place in October from the 5th to the 13th, I will have more information later as to when it will be officially debuting on the screen.  I hope to make it out there for this wonderful occasion!

I’m getting my film ready to send to festivals, so I can’t show it just yet. With that being said, I can show the teaser trailer I created as a teaser to get everyone ready for its digital arrival.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, but that’s because I was finishing my film.  I can say with the biggest of smiles that the masterpiece I call “Bottled Up” is finally done!

Quick update on animation!

It’s going slowly, but with that being said, I’m pushing myself mentally to do things I haven’t tried before or things I don’t know how to do.  This is a really rough comp of what this scene will look like in the film.  I still have to finish the animation (see if you can find what’s missing!), then clean/color and export; shouldn’t be too hard, right?

I know it’s been a hot second since I’ve posted anything here, but I wanted to show snapshots of my progress on a layout for my film.  The first photo is a screenshot from the storyboard of the scene.

First I create the lines that define the walls, floor, and ceiling.  Where this layout is used in the film, color/texture matter more than the lines dictating the space of the room, so I spend more time in the color layer.

I start with a flat color, then add color where the extreme shadows will be, then add the appropriate mid-tone color.  It always starts off messy, then gradually looks nicer.  I use the smudge tool (Kyle’s Paintbox - Wet Blender) at varying sizes to get the effect of texture and gradual light disbursement.

I don’t always end up liking the outcome of the image the first time around, such as this one, so I’ll go back in with the brush tool and apply more flat color, then smudge again.  Sometimes I do this layer upon layer, building up the texture until I’m happy with it.  This time it only took 2 tries..... This still isn’t finished.  It needs some intimidating bottles!

Check out this shot that I've been working on!!  I finally finished the layouts for it today.  Ignore how bad the transition is; there's PLENTY of editing to do to this shot once it's finished, but here's where I'm at with animation. Only a few more stones to go in this graveyard!!

Testing out some flowers blowing in the wind to start wrapping up this project.  Almost at the finish line!
