Hey, I wanna talk about how we do fandom! I've come to realize that I, personally, tend to differ from many others in that I highly prefer to only engage with a text as it's written, so I don't tend to really like fanon/extremely ooc characterizations and I find it hard to get invested in ships that aren't canon. My way of doing fandom isn't better or worse than anyone else's, but I am curious about how much of a minority I'm in! So:
*We've all seen ships of characters not from the same media and stuff like shipping the concept of ennui with the color blue, okay, I'm asking what you, personally, find compelling!
#must have on-screen chemistry and believable connection for me#that's really all that matters to me#like sometimes a ship actually IS canon but I don't see the chemistry OR I simply I'm not into that dynamic so I'm going to ignore it#honestly there are so many different factors that come into play for me to start shipping a ship#but I need it to be at least believable based on what canon gives us

one of the worst feelings in fandom is when the canon version of a character is one of your favorites ever but their fanon interpretation is just something you want to dropkick into a dying star and watch it all go supernova hopefully from close enough that it will obliterate you and your memory of what the fandom did to them in the process

Wakaba Shinohara, Nanami Kiryuu, Juri Arisugawa - Utena, la fillette révolutionnaire
There it is, a triptych of my favorite duels from each season, and coincidentally my favorite characters.

Not to be that person but I feel like sometimes Shrek being so memeable prevents people from seeing how truly revolutionary and radical the first two films really were. A children’s fairy tale that argues that no, ugliness does not mean bad and beautiful does not mean good. A fairy tale that argues that everyone deserves love, even those cast out of the margins of society. A fairy tale that dares to have a female protagonist not be conventionally attractive or helpless. A fairy tale that argues that love does not happen at first sight, but is grown through mutual respect and interest. That’s pretty fucking sick if you ask me
#reblogging posts that have been on my drafts for 2+ years fhgh#also yes#when Shrek first was released it was 100% revolutionary

I used to hate it when people said the trick was to just do it until ‘do it scared’ started going around, because that’s truly it. Life didn’t start changing until I applied for jobs with one hand in front of my eyes and a trembling hand navigating my computer mouse. Or until I said everything on my mind (in moderation) with my fists clenched and my legs weak. Or until I refused to accept that I’d ‘just’ be shy forever while also kind of being nauseous at the idea of trying to be the opposite. Two things can coexist and that’s exactly the point of believing that you can do anything.
