It's the most wonderful time of the year...
And by that I mean New Year, new ideas! This time of the year is the best of any to change things up in your salon. Whether you're closed for the whole holidays or just the major ones, this is the perfect opportunity to WOW your clients when they return.
If you've been feeling like changing up the vibe/design/structure of your salon or business, what better time than now?!
There are some ripper things you can do on the tiniest of budgets, I'm talking under $50, for reals!
If you don't have some art on your salon walls, do it! A frame wall can look really great! You can even showcase your own in salon work or pick a theme and run with it!
If you do already have art up on your salon walls, change the prints in the frame - this can be as simple as printing out some cute pictures/quotes from google, use wrapping paper print (the low budget options) OR ordering some stunning one offs from ETSY (these can be a real conversation starter if you find the right thing!). If you've got frames on the wall, change their colours by spray painting them (your cheapest cans of paint start at $3 at Bunnings and are pretty darn good!) See? You can change your colour scheme or vibe for well under $50! Why not add a clock to your walls, heck, why not add 3? Local time, London time, New York time! Target currently have some really awesome clocks available for next to nothing! Kmart also have some cuties that you can pay for with the change your car! If you wanna spend a little more and you have the time and energy to spare, give the salon a lick of paint or sheet of wallpaper, you'll be amazed at how fresh it can feel even if you just do one wall! Finally, if you've never had a theme for all your business cards and promo material, why not start now? There are brilliant companies like Vistaprint and Zazzle that will do amazing deals on your business cards, promo postcards, pricelists etc and all for pennies! You can order pens, mouse pads, stubbie cooloers and all with the same theme you desire! All these little things make such a difference and with a new fresh feel to your vibe, you'll start the year off running! Bonnie xo

Remember when Lauren’s go-to hairstyle was the bang braid? Well, lately this little lady’s had a new favorite. Check out this gem. It works on literally any hair type – short, long, curly, pin straight, anything! It’s so great for those mornings when you’re in a rush, but need something to pull your look together. Think of it as a french braid, but you only add in new hair from one side (the top). Follow these steps + be patient! You’ll get it…
we like to part slightly off-center for this. on the heavier side, grab a section at your hairline. split it into three.
start it just like you would a regular french braid.
next add in a piece of hair from the top, still like a regular french braid.
now skip the part where you’d grab a new piece from the bottom + keep braiding instead.
then take another piece from the top + add it in.
continue with this pattern until you have 5-7 sections added in.
once you’re just past the ear, stop adding in new hair. Just do a regular braid + tie it off with a clear elastic like Lauren’s in the top picture.

Tea and tidy...
We’ve all been there, we’ve all had a love hate relationship with the role. The gorgeous little lads and lasses that sweep and clean and make our clients beverages among a million other duties we chuck at them but the operative word today is TEA!
Let’s talk about tea, baby! Have you all noticed the evolution of tea that’s happening everywhere you go and all around you? Who’s to blame? For me it’s T2, after stepping into their stores for the first time, my obsession was real - very freakin’ real. Shelves upon shelves of little boxed treats, jugs of tea to try hot and iced and staff that know more about tea than I knew there was to know! I’d seen the trend happening among my clients long before it took hold of me. Coffee is old news, it’s boring and tired (despite its caffeine content) and it’s no longer as fun. Tea has taken centre stage with all its health benefits, delicious flavours and different ways to serve it.
So, my question is, how many of you have hopped on the tea train? I’m talking about real tea, not your bags of Tetly in a box in the back room - real, exciting, good for your soul, brewed tea? If you haven’t joined the tea army, why not change your beverage menu up a little? In my salon, I do a “flavour of the month” by picking something new and seasonal from my local t2 store. For most clients, a visit to the salon is a treat, a time out, it’s relaxation central, so why not step it up a notch by adding an extra element of relax? Trust me, tea is heaven in a cup when done right. Not only will your clients get excited but you’re adding an amazing element of service to your list that the salon down the road may not be catering to! So invest in some gorgeous tea cups, teapots, tea accessories and take a wee lesson in how to brew and steep, it’s easier than it sometimes looks!
Get to it and hop online and check out your local tea suppliers - Merlot Coffee do a tea range, there’s also a website called monstrosotea who run a “tea subscription” - sending you a new tea every month or just hop on t2’s page for more tea than you could poke 10 sticks at, your mind will be blown if you’ve not experienced the wide world of tea!
