“A drink it is.” Renfri replies, waving down the barkeep. “Vodka for me, and whatever the lovely lady likes.” She can’t help but lay on a little charm as she settles into the seat besides the woman. Renfri had feared the night would pass uneventfully, everyone in this particular town seems so dull that it’s almost a surprise to see someone that catches her attention the way this woman has. 

          “Vodka it is.” There’s a clever little grin. She already there, pulling the bottle and two glasses out, setting them on the counter. “Do you want it straight or...” She had juice, she was already getting it out. She gave a small nod of her head, an unspoken okay for the other to help herself. She placed her elbows on the counter and leaned forward. “So, how long are you in town for?”

          “It’s more of a something, or at least of what I’m aware of.” There’s a soft smile. “But none of it has actually gone over well.”

     SOMETIMES   STEVE   FEELS   LIKE   LILY   IS   THE   ONLY   ONE   WHO   REALLY   KNOWS   HIM ;    she’s   seen   him   at   his   worst ,   &   always   believes   in   him   to   be   his   best .   but   when   she   speaks ,   steve   realizes   suddenly   that   he   knows   very   little   about   her   in   return .   ❝  what   do   you   mean  ? ❞   he   asks ,   confusion   wrinkling   his   brow .  ❝  what   could   be   worse   than ,   like ,   actual   monsters  ? ❞   as   the   question   comes   out   of   his   mouth ,   steve   realizes   that   if   more ,  worse   horrors   do   exist ,   he   isn’t   sure   he   wants   to   know .   but   if   he   wants   to   understand   lily   (  &   he   does  ) ,   he   has   little   choice   but   to   ask   &   deal   with   whatever   answer   may   come .

            He had asked, and for a moment she wondered if he really wanted to know the answer. But for months they had skirted around the unsaid. But now he had asked, she might as well tell the truth. “It comes with a bit of a story.” She rose to her feet, moving into the kitchen to make tea. “Do you have the time for it?” What the question really was, was did he really want to know. It was not a happy story and sometimes she still checked over her shoulder. Still worried. Still was scared. Not that she would admit that to anyone. “I can make you a cup if you do.”
