MMFFs usually have a submission phase and a writing phase. Its like... OC daycare lmaoo. The author usually makes a character sheet that submittees fill out, backstory, character, abilities, feats, friends, foes, dos and donts etc. Obviously the characters are all within the world of the franchise you're working with, and usually there is a pitch to work around. (I remember vividly a Naruto highschool MMFF fanfiction, where the original pitch was highschool gang wars lmao)

then the author goes through those submissions and writes a story that incorporates all these characters. Sometimes there is an intermediate phase of the author sending back a lifted outline and checking in with the submitted if they're okay with what is planned, but those arent always a thing.

Then the author writes the fic and posts it! It is SO cool to see your OCs incorporated into a work with other ocs and it makes for a neat little circle of friends in the process. In my experience the nicest thing as author is that you a) get a wider cast of characters to work with and b) it's also just nice to write something for someonen else because then you know at least those ppl will enjoy it!

I think it can be a little scary to trust someone online with your babies, but I personally always enjoyed it and there is obviously the understanding that the OC might look a little different written by someone else!

Does anyone remember those MMFF where you could submit your OC to the author and they'd write a fanfiction with your OCs???? Was that just a German fanfiction thing???????? I loved those!!! They never got particularly far but God I would love to host one you just need enough people willing to like, fill out the RIDICULOUSLY detailed character sheets but JJBA lends itself so well to doing something like that, because you can just write a little spine off esque side story.

i have this unrealistic fantasy in my head where if you calmly and logically explain something to someone perfectly they will understand your position and gain knowledge from the exchange. unfortunately in the real world this does not happen often
