Needlework was, in the past and remains a significant aspect of traditional Romanian culture. Though most cultures stopped wearing folk dress after the turn of the 20th century and the spread of industrialization, 20th-century Romania experienced a rebirth of interest in cultural traditions. Folk dress continues to be worn for festival and ceremonial purposes, highlighting the importance this culture places on folk arts and the work of women.
