Don Bluth

Don Bluth is one of my favourite animator's. He was a big influence on my childhood, on par with Disney. His work influences my own in the present day and I really love his stuff. Before he started creating his own movies he worked at Disney and worked on films such as “Robin Hood” and “The Rescuers”. I love how he’s created many animated feature length films targeted at children but they all have elements of maturity in them. Whether it’s the story line or how a character is designed, it shows that he acknowledges that his audience will be of a mixture of ages and are intelligent. The main films I used to watch over and over again as a child were “The Land Before Time” (with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas), “An American Tail” (with Steven Spielberg) and “Anastasia” (with Gary Goldman).

Currently Don Bluth and his old friend Gary Goldman are doing an indiegogo project to raise money to create a fully animated trailer for a pitch to create a movie of his revolutionary 1983 game “Dragons Lair”. They plan on creating a feature length 2D animated movie and have been doing work towards it for about ten years already. Luckily they got double they’re goal and raised $528,489 (16/01/2016) but they have turned the InDemand feature on indiegogo, which means funding can carry on for as long as they want. This is great news for them and I really hope somewhere gives it the green light once they’ve got everything sorted.

One of my favourite songs from one of my favorite games. I had never seen the original music video for this song until now and its beautiful. From the icon image, it looks dull and boring like quite a few music videos, until you actually watch it. I love how the 2D animation flows and the colours used. Bare in mind that its not all 2D animated and there's still quite a lot of live action used as well as visual effects. I just think its very visually beautiful and it really inspires me.

Episode Synopsis’s

Episode 16: Family

They find themselves in a fishing town. They put their boat in the harbour and start to walk into the town. Jamie goes really quiet. Lilly asks him whats wrong and he just shakes his head. They make their way through the town. They find the road , which leaves the town but jamie has disappeared. Everyone starts looking for him all over the town. Eventually they find him looking through a window into a house. It turns out this is his families house and this is the town he used to live in. They go to hug him but this time its successful and they say that their like a big disjointed family ever since they started off on this journey. In high spirits they leave the town and look towards the volcano in the distance.

Episode 17: We can Have Fun

This episode revolves around Sam and Ra. Sam and Ra are getting along with the group pretty well but are finding it hard to get used to following a certain amount of rules. They dont let being told when to go to bed and to carm down when they're having fun. They decide to sneak off for a bit so they can explore the area and play some games. Agnes comes up to they with a plan in her mind. Sam and Ra have never met Agnes so they don't know that she is the villain they are on a journey to confront. She convinces them to have a look in a nearby cave. They think it would be fun and get all excited. She seals the exit behind them once they've gone inside. She laughs menacingly to herself and the two child panic. They regret their dicision and wish they were back with the others. Ra is extremely upset and starts to cry and panic. Sam comforts him and trys to cheer him up. She looks threw her pokets and finds a small torch. she them starts creating shadow puppets across the wall. Ra feels alot better and then notices that there is a tunnel in the torch light. They follow the tunnel and find a very small opening to the outside world. Meanwhile everyone else has been looking for them the whole time and with luck find the small opening. Jerry uses his magic to blast it open and they manage to escape. Everyones happy to be back together and the group say sorry for being so hard on them. They say their just happy to have a family and are sorry for wondering off. They tell them what happened and everyone is quite angry about it. They look up towards the volcano.

Episode 18: Twisting

Inside the volcano of Padilla, Agnes is trying to open the sealed clasp over the top of the key hole for the lantern. Nothing she tries works.  It will only work open to a naturally evil creature with a good soul. She comes up with a plan of forcing Charles to open it for her. She spy’s on them, while they make their journey towards the volcano. Eventually she goes and reveals herself to Jerry. She states that she’s worked out that he’s Charles best friend. She hypnotise him and takes him away but makes sure the group sees her taking him. The group tries to stop her but ends up watching in despair.

Episode 19: A Tough Decision

The group is panicking about what they’re going to do. Charles clears his throat and tells everyone about the deal Agnes tried to make with him. He says he’ll give into her demands and open the clasp. They make their way to the volcano peak. They discuss their plan, nod and jump into the volcano. They land in the middle of the caldera. Agnes is sat there waiting for them. Charles accepts her offer but only if they get to see Jerry. She clicks her fingers and Jerry appears in a puff of smoke. He’s still in a hypnotised daze. Charles goes over to the round stone alter and breaks the clasp. Agnes breaks her spell over Jerry and throws him into the others. She claps her hands and the lantern appears. She runs to the alter and pushes the lantern into the keyhole.

Episode 20: Hells Gate

The lantern is in the keyhole and twists inside the alter. The caldera starts to break apart and floor cracks around the alter. The flame is released and Agnes has it in her hands. She laughs destruction fills the area. She place the flame inside her and transforms into a powerful winged being. Everyone tries to grab her but she magically pushes them away. Jerry wakes up and blocks her next blast attack. Everyone tries to get the lantern out of the keyhole while Jerry defends them with his magic. Jamie manages to unlock it from the inside and the lantern comes out of the alter. Charles grabs Agnes from behind, while Jerry casts a spell to get that flame back. Agnes loses all her power and falls to the ground. The gate to hell closes but the volcano continues to erupt. Everyone escapes from the centre of the volcano but Charles looks back at Agnes unconscious on the floor. He picks her up and saves her from the erupting volcano. She wakes up confused and asks why she was saved. Charles explains that there are simply things in this world that are worth saving and she needs to see them. She’s still confused but takes Charles hand when he offers it. Everyone smiles at her and she apologises. It ends with everyone walking into the horizon while talking about everyday nonsense.

Episode Synopsis’s

Episode 11: Beauty

They come across the town Turnsworth on their journey and there is currently a festival on. Everyone splits up to look around, Charles and Jerry run off to find free food, Rowan and Victoria go to talk to the upper class kids. Jamie then leaves Lilly to find the town’s library because he’s not one for things like this. Lilly wonders off on her own. She comes across a group of girls and tries to talk to them. They pick on her about her clothing and the general way she looks. She gets upset and walks away as they laugh. A zombie girl comes up to her called Zara and comforts her. They confide in each other and come to the conclusion of it doesn’t matter what people think because they don’t matter. They spend the day together and come across the girls again. This time Lilly bluntly asks why they act like that and their speechless. She continues with saying she doesn’t understand why they have to bring people down when their lives seems so good. The rest of the group joins them from behind just in time to hear the leader of this group of girls saying some really horrible things to Lilly. They become angry and defend her. Charles insults the girls and they storm off in a huff. Everyone asks Lilly if she’s okay but she’s angry at Charles for insulting them. She’s says sadly that they needed to show them that they were better than them and not the same by insulting them in return. Charles says he’s sorry but he couldn’t help himself and felt that the girls needed some of their own medicine. Lilly laughs and thanks everyone for the support. They spend the rest of the festival together with their new friend Zara. Once it got a bit late they decided to carry on with their journey to the Volcano Padilla. Lilly says goodbye to her new friend and is happy to have all the new friends she has gained in the last couple of weeks.

Episode 12: The Town of Cove water

As they continue, they come to the coast line. They are clueless on how they’re going to cross the sea to get to Padilla. While they sit on the beach discussing how they can cross, Rowan starts to recognize an arch in the cliff. She goes towards it and looks through towards a seaside town on top of the opposite cliff. She’s confused at its familiarity and goes to explore it. She walks through the streets but everything is abandoned. She comes across a castle, which is partly ruined. While she is exploring, rowan suddenly gets a small push from behind, which is followed by a giggle. She tries to find the origin of this and ends up chasing shadows through the halls. Meanwhile back on the beach, everyone else is arguing about solutions. Victoria notices that Rowan is gone and they go to look for her. They see the town but also a sign pointing towards a cave inside the cliff. Victoria and Jamie go to the town, while Charles, Jerry and Lilly go to the cave.

Episode 13: Dust on the Strings of the Past

Rowan finally corners the shadows she’s been chasing inside a wardrobe but once she’s opened it, she sees that it was too small children. Sam a 5 year old werewolf girl and Ra a 4 year old mummy boy. She asks them what they’re doing here all alone. It turns out they ran away from an orphanage together and came across the town. They decided to stay in the town, where they could freely play. They ask her in return and she explains how she remembers this place and how she was made here. Victoria and Jamie are looking in all the different buildings. Victoria notices the castle and sees that it says Fordswell on the gates. She explains that her father who created her was a Fordswell and when his brother died all his stuff came to her father, that’s how she met Rowan. Rowan is telling her story to Sam and Ra. Part way through Victoria and Jamie walk in and see she is ok. Rowan decides she will look after Sam and Ra and give them a home. They respond with saying she can be they’re big sister and they hug her. Victoria hugs her too and Jamie tries to too but falls through them.

Episode 14: The Fair of the Damned

Charles, Jerry and Lilly are walking towards the cave and find a sign saying Cove Water’s fair. As they step into the cave, layers of lights come on and reveal a massive Victorian fair ground. They get greeted by a clockwork man in a top hat and tail coat. He says the fair is free and to enjoy as much of it as they would like. Without thinking they run into that fair and going on rides and gorging themselves on sweets. Charles becomes suspicious and questions the clockwork man on where everyone is and what the catch with this place is. He laughs manically and explains what he did with the people of the town and that it’s what will happen to them. Charles panics and runs to find Jerry and Lilly. Copper mannequins come to life around the fair and try to grab him as he looks for the others. Lilly is stuck on a swing ride that is going way too fast. Charles dodges all the mannequins and jumps onto the swing ride. He picks her up and jumps off with her in his arms. Next he finds Jerry, who is feeling very sick but can’t stop eating sweets. He grabs him by the collar and runs through the fair. The clockwork man tries to get them himself but Jerry points his wand and the cave starts to collapse from the blast. They escape the cave and bump into the others. Sam and Ra introduce themselves, while Jerry and Lilly are still feeling very sick.

Episode 15: Temptations

They sit on the beach and state that their back where they started. Sam mentions that when they got here they saw a steam boat on the coast line around the corner. They find it and fire it up. Luckily it still works and they start off across the sea. Jamie steers the boat and is quite happy. Sam and Ra are running around playing while everyone else is bored. They start playing a card game but Charles decides he’s going to go to bed and goes below deck. Agnes appears to him again and offers him a proposition. She wants him to help her open the gates of hell to end the world. She calls it a mercy killing. Charles refuses and tells her he’ll never help her. She looks disappointed but then laughs and says they’ll make it to Padilla anyway. She disappears and a raging storm starts on the sea. They battle against the waves but eventually they crash the boat into dry land. They look up and see Padilla in the distance. They made it after all.
