I have a HUGE problem with people using the word "unalive" when what they mean is dead. You should not soften something that doesn't need softening. It's a reality of life whether it makes us uncomfortable or sad or not. Do we not all have to read 1984 in school anymore? The softening of language for people's perceived delicate sensibilities is always bad. Words carry meaning and they should carry weight. Language has the ability to make us feel emotions in a wide range, not just the comfy ones. We need that.

Wow. Time to bring this blog post back around.
Close Only Counts
Today I wrote a poem because I don’t know how else to react to the news today and for this past year. Close Only Counts I don’t know how to stop violence forever but I wish I could hold compassion like a grenade, pull the pin and release it when the conversation turns to cost of industry instead of the cost of lives. I wish every piece of shrapnel made people stop, listen, and see the world that…

A nice hot beverage
I love hearing about other people's writing routines so I have to ask: writers of tumblr, what are your absolute writing must-haves? like not just what you're actually using to write (pens, laptop, etc.) but the little things that help you get into the zone. for me it's scented candles.

“All poetry is political. Even the freedom to be indifferent is political. Poetry by white, cis, straight men that doesn’t explicitly talk about politics is political because white, cis, straight men feeling unburdened enough to not talk about politics is political.”
— Olivia Gatwood, interviewed by John Maher for The Millions
