redrew an old illustration I made back during the webcomic days! Ch 2 of Oddity Woods is one of the most difficult things I've written (so far), but I hope everyone enjoys the murder mystery dinner party. >:)

YO this collection!!! 🥹 Thank you for supporting!!!

After all these years I finally have the first Oddity Woods book to round out my collection!!! For years I’d flip through the art book since the webcomic couldn’t stay up (completely understandable) and now I can finally see these guys again that I loved so much in 2019 :) (also took a photo of my full book collection under the cut)

(A quick PSA- I love talking about my books here and answering fan questions. But please be aware that there are still boundaries in place, and if I feel like anyone is being overly pushy or familiar, I will block them.
Let’s keep things fun and cool, but please remember I do not owe anyone certain things! Even though I’m an author on the internet who makes comic books, I’m still a (adult) stranger, not a buddy. Please respect boundaries.)

Hi! I just want to say that I LOVE Misfit Mansion.
You are one of the very few authors who has inspired me on my own author journey and actually inspired me to make one of my own stories a graphic novel series instead of a normal novel. NO ONE has inspired me to change my writing like this since Tui T. Sutherland a few years ago, and she got me into writing and dragons.
Sorry for rambling, but I just wanted to say how much Misfit Mansion has changed how I write. I can’t wait for the sequel!
I have a few questions about dreamons though.
Could a dreamon’s color palette change from the blue shades to something else if their dreamer thought of them as a different color?
Why didn’t Iris become a monster during the first years of her life, when Mathias thought all horrors were monsters? Wouldn’t that turn her into one automatically? Or was it the fact that Mathias was unaware of her existence that made her have her appearance?
You mentioned that Iris and Mathias are the same height, but Larkspur and Mr. Halloway definitely aren’t (monster-Larkspur is definitely not the exact same height as Mr. Halloway), and Iris and Mathias seem to be the same age physically but Larkspur and Halloway aren’t, so what is the correlation in height and age of dreamons and their dreamers?
Sorry for the long questions, I’ll keep the last few shorter.
Do the younger horrors go to school? What kind of education did the horrors get under Halloway?
Why are the only two dreamons we know of (Iris and Larkspur) named after flowers? Why is the only other flower-named character Anemone?
I’m so sorry for the long questions and my rambling. I really love Misfit Mansion.
Thank you so much, I’m so glad to hear it could inspire you! :)
1. Dreamon color palettes- I’ve thought about this before, and I kind of like the idea that dreamons are always some shade of blue regardless if their dreamer tries to imagine them differently. Some can be darker or lighter shades, including their hair (this would also just make it easier for readers to differentiate between dreamons and other horrors on a page).
2. Iris+Mathias monster stuff- I think if Iris didn’t immediately leave she probably would have changed. I think for dreamons to turn into monsters, their dreamers have to specifically have those feelings towards them, not just for horrors in general, if that makes sense? Also I don’t really know how fearful of horrors Mathias actually was, or if a lot of it was just regurgitating stuff Anemone said, since he’d never really met one before.
3. Dreamon height/age- I think this depends on how the dreamer initially imagines them! The ages get a little weird, because Iris is 11 in the first book like Mathias, but she technically has only existed for 3 years iirc. Larkspur was a child when he first came into existence, and even though he’s been around for 20+ years, he’s still a teenager. Idk probably something to do with being locked away during this time, it’s a little weird. BUT I can say that Larkspur and Iris’s origins are talked about more in MM2, and also why their situations are a little different.
4. School- I think they could go to school if they wanted; I’m sure they had their own homeschooling before they were able to go into town.
5. Names- Halloway named both Larkspur and Iris, so that’s why they are both flowers. I don’t remember why I gave Anemone that name LOL. I also didn’t realize Dahlia was a flower name, I just chose that one because it sounded like “doll.”
Hope that helps!

The two main characters of Oddity Woods + some panels of them I like! My paranormal mystery book is out in less than a week!
Marietta is an aspiring detective who, while searching for her missing father, winds up in a purgatory-like world of ghosts and monsters. Thankfully her quick wit and magic lie-detecting magnifying glass help her avoid the dangers of Oddity Woods, and uncover the mysteries surrounding it. She teams up with another kid named Wyatt in order to escape back to their own world.
Wyatt is a paranormal investigator and inventor who became trapped in Oddity Woods sometime in the past. He doesn't remember much, and having been alone for so long, doesn't immediately warm up to having Marietta around. Maybe they can still become friends???
If you like MURDER mystery stories with spooky creepy things, please check out my book when it releases next week!!

3 more weeks until Oddity Woods is out!! Here are some more comparison pages, the first two being from the book while the last two are from the 2016 webcomic. I wish CMYK was able to print dark blues better but alas, I had to edit the palettes a bit.

before i preorder, are there any major differences between the paperback and hardback versions (like a special design under the dust jacket)?
There aren’t any major differences aside from having a sleeve/flaps and the back art not having words covering it, so it’s really whichever works for your budget! Although (and I might be a little biased) I do think the hardcover version looks REALLY GOOD. I made a little video of it on my Instagram!

ONE MORE MONTH!!! The release date was changed from March to August but I’m SO excited for my book! Going to post some more stuff about it soon. (including a chance to win some signed art from me!!)

COVER REVEAL!! The first graphic novel of Oddity Woods will release AUGUST 5th, 2025!
After her father’s sudden disappearance, thirteen-year-old aspiring detective Marietta travels to where his trail went cold, the town of Perdita, to ask for help. But with nobody believing her claim that something paranormal is to blame, her questions go nowhere. Determined to find out what happened—even if she has to do it alone—Marietta enters the nearby woods, where people are known to have vanished. Armed with a peculiar magnifying glass that has the power to reveal lies and a mysterious letter containing clues about her father, Marietta stumbles into the alternate world hidden in the woods. There, she meets a friendly spirit who leads her to a phantom train where the Conductor says he’ll help Marietta find her father—for a price. With the help of Wyatt Weiss, a mysterious boy with his own secrets, Marietta escapes without bargaining away something she can’t afford to lose and finally learns where she’s ended up: the Oddity Woods, an endless forest where monsters and ghosts roam freely. Marietta and Wyatt work together to navigate the woods but become increasingly lost. A search for magical keys and solving a puzzling murder offer them ways to get home, but Marietta has yet to find her father…and the Conductor hounds her every step. Can she get what she came for and make a clean getaway, or will the woods claim another victim?
Preorder links here! I'll be posting some preview pages soon! ; )
This series is one I've been making since around 2014, and I'm so excited to finally share the book cover!
