*sign and octavia laugh, leaving simon to be the one to make sure the four of them dont fall over. but hes smiling, way more than he usually would. he reaches around the other two to ruffle katrinas hair. octavia pushes his hand away before he can do it to her too. sign looks down at katrina. he. hes the tallest one here. when did that- nevermind, seems he doesnt really notice it.*

hey, we were wondering if you wanted to hang out with us today.

*octavia lightly shoves him.*

this antisocial creature we share for a brother came crawling out of his room today asking to hang out with all of us. can you believe that?

Katrina is fresh out of a successful witch hunt, tossing the grief seed into the air and grinning. She’s better off than she has been in a long time. And is actually sleeping at night.

*sign freezes (ha), then turns to look at her, with a bit of effort, of course. his eyes go wide with surprise and... recognition? a disbelieving smile crosses his face.*

*he laughs a little, letting himself fall on his back.*

right. octavia said you were here. i remember now.

*he falls silent for a moment, then holds out his hand with a small smile.*

Katrina ignores moony.

“…I’m not gonna pretend like I know how to fix this. You don’t even remember me. You’re also…well, dead, although that obviously never stopped me from talking to someone.”

The silence is deafening.

If only he could respond... you never even really got to talk to him. He doesn't have his memories, he doesn't know her. If he were to sit up, alive, right now, he would look at her as if she were a stranger. Because to him, she is.

“I missed ya, Steven. Like, a lot. I know Sy’s kinda mad at you, and ‘tavi’s not too happy either. But…well, I know what it’s like to have people other than the four of us. And I understand it’s hard to balance sometimes.”

...all he wanted was to be happy. Was that too much to ask?

“You were gonna be really cool and get married ‘n stuff. And I was gonna…I was gonna spend time with you. I’m…I’m sorry I haven’t. But I’m here now!”

…Katrina sits down next to it, old habits returning a bit.

“…Why did you wanna do that, Steven?”

Nothing but the howling wind outside to answer her.

Katrina wanders past the lake. She…hasn’t left her room in a while. Just spending time with Simon and Octavia, trying to make up for all she’s missed. It’s changed her, this place. Her knight-errantry has significantly calmed down.

Is it just her, or is the hole in the ice at the edge of the lake bigger near the shore? And what is that dark lump near the center of it?
